I recommend starting with a 7. 8 is off putting especially if you're not familiar with bass or slapping/thumping techniques. If you're musically trained in theory it's SO off putting at first. But I played a Schecter 7 string for a while and now I can just barely utilize 8 strings in the proper way. Like in a way I feel utilizes the full intervallic range

I'm just gonna say it; I prefer Reyes' style over Abasi. I know everybody is gaga over Abasi, but this dude has such a great balance of flow, style, tone, and technicaloty.
I like his style more because of the classical style he has. Funny thing is tosin actually picked up extended range guitar because Javier had a Ibanez jem 7 string when they were hanging together.
Most of the time I dig the Mestis stuff more than AAL. Javier has so much soul in his playing. Incredibly technically proficient but it has so much feeling. Tosin is an amazing musician as well I just feel like Javier deserves so much more credit. His heart is in his music and it shows.
Honestly, I was asked once what I would have as a custom guitar. Word for word, It was a yellow strat styled 8 string with dimarzio sss config. Not sure about the floyd, but if they ever release this with a hardtail I am damn sure getting one day one 👍
Definitely worth checking out Aviator Guitars if you’re interested in a custom 8 string build like that. I haven’t placed an order for one because of my job not paying that much, but the people I’ve met that own one have nothing but great things to say about the brand as a whole!

What? Lol. Jazz incorporates many more changes throughout the piece and at least some improvisation. This is more akin to the lick oriented nature of blues and maybe some classical in there in there since classical doesnt place much emphasis on improv but rather to repeatedly play complex pieces.
If Javier wasn't an incredible guitarist and musician, he wouldn't be rhythm guitarist of one the most forward thinking progressive metal acts of our generation. Really amazing arrangement here ❤

Its a shame that tosin gets so much more recognition because of his techniques and thumping but javier is JUST as good as tosin and some people over look him

Everything about this song is perfect. One of the best compositions I've heard in this genre. And yes, I really want that guitar. An 8 string strat with a floyd rose and single coils isn't something that should make sense... and yet it does, and it sounds beautiful in the hands of this virtuoso.

I like how it doesn't have many notes though after all the melody stuff and the groove it comes in with a nice melodic lead bit. Such a nice song with a nice tone. I think The Animals as Leaders guys have really released some good, different than just djent 8 string stuff. I do like some djent sometimes though. It can be hard for some to make a more melodic solo, but sometimes I think melodic playing is just what my brain needs which Is why I practice some melodic lead stuff is what my guitar and sometimes having build ups in some songs is good too. I do like many genres of music.
AAL lost me a long time ago due to the never ending bass techniques and SV/JS style solos, but ive always felt like Javier was the more melodic of the two. Excited about this project for sure. Well done dude! pure melody

I have an 8 string baritone with a Floyd Rose tremelo. It's literally no more difficult to restring than putting two more strings on. Once you set it up it pretty much stays intonated with no need for adjustments. That said, the floyd itself is....leaves a bit for wanting. You can't really dive bomb or make aggressive tremelo pulls. Kahler's actually feel way better, to me in general, but especially on an 8 string.
@@Glumurphonel_64 I have a floyd on a seven string... I can't imagine more strings would make it any harder to set up. It's the same process as 6. I agree the pushing and pulling is way softer the more tension you put on- An 8 would make for very subtle vibrato I'd think. Sounds tasty
I'll probably catch some flack for this but I'll throw it out there anyway- To me, Animals as Leaders are so incredibly talented at their instruments that their music is more a demonstration of "look at this shit I can play" versus "listen to how good this sounds". Like I'll watch a video of Tosin playing and be amazed, but I don't think I've ever wanted to sit down and listen to their music. But as always, music is subjective and I don't mean any disrespect whatsoever

@@DrewPSachs I felt the same way until I heard Kascade and the Price of Everything. The middle 8 in Kascade gets me v emotional, as does the intro in Price. Great feels.
That improvisation in 3:05 makes the whole solo feel so much better! As far as I know, Javier discovered that improvisation part during one of his live tours in 2019, and is been including that part in his performances ever since. :D
