I do miss the 18-50 every so often. That minimum focusing distance is insane, and the weight makes it a breeze to carry. Loving the 15mm, glad I got it. In the end, decided to let go of the 11mm. Also, I tried filming some twigs and slapping a LUT on it.. still doesn't look half as good. Love your shots.
If I could only have one lens it would be the 15mm :) I think it's the G.O.A.T. Every time I shoot with it it makes me happy. Just keep practicing. It took me a long time before it all finally clicked. For outdoor shots, I prefer to underexpose a bit. Also, get an ND filter if you don't have one. If you do photography then you really don't need one but if you are shooting video it's essential. Thanks as always man :)
Wow. Very nice. I'm surprised with the amount of Bokeh you were able to get from that lens on the wide end. Yes, keep doing what you're doing and don't let anyone discourage you. I'm essentially in the same boat. I learn something new each time I shoot, but also from watching your videos. It gets me thinking about things I could do differently, even if you don't directly mention something. A few weeks ago, I started doing some Instagram reels/TH-cam Shorts on my cellphone to practice my storytelling. I force myself to do a story/vlog every Saturday even if it's mundane and spice it up with things like quick cuts and creative transitions. I highly recommend giving it a go, you don't even have to post them. It has me wanting a good point and shoot that I can throw in my pocket that I don't have to baby so much. Maybe something like the ZV-1 (not the 1F) that is a little wider with those built-in ND filters and a larger than a 1" sensor.
Hey Tim. Thanks for the kind words and advice. I'll look into shorts. I've always wanted to make them and you're right about the ZV1. I sold my ZV1 for the ZV-E10 and although I don't regret it because the ZV-E10 is a lot more fun for me. I was more impressed with the ZV1. It was damn near perfect. The built-in ND filter is a huge game changer IMO. If you can score one on the cheap I think that would be a solid plan.
The sigma has a fantastic minimum focus distance at the wide end and bokeh is affected by how close you can get to your subject (narrows depth of field).
Nice footage! Can't wait to get one. Currently have a sony a6400 and have been longing to get something from the cinema line. Also thanks for the mic usage reply. Have my eyes on that sony Bluetooth mic now as well. Love the work. Keep going
Thank you :) I truly feel I can achieve anything with this camera. The only other camera I wish I had over this is the FX3 but I can't justify the price. At least not for what I do.
Got the FX30 some weeks ago, amazed at the quality of stills. Keep doing what you love, forget the negativity. I really enjoy your work and it truly motivates me whenever discourages . Question - what computer requirements do you use to process footage from the FX30 using 10bit at 60fps?
Thank you :) This means a lot. My computer is pretty decent. I don't know what the base requirements are but the most important thing is being able to edit 4K. I had to rebuild my computer to do that. I have an RTX 3060 Ti with a Ryzen 5900X. I'm pretty sure a computer with lower specs can handle 4K though, but a computer with my specs shouldn't be that expensive.
Awesome video!!! I bought this lense with the fx30. I haven't used it much. I need to try it out. P.S. you have a nice back yard!! Don't let anyone discourage your amazing art my friend. I love it.
Well, it isn't really my backyard. Anything within 5 km is what I call my backyard because you know. I own this town :P It's a good lens! Never even tried to vlog with it until now. It's not great but it's not bad! If you only had this lens you can pretty much do everything. I was impressed.
It does take a lot of work but if it makes you happy thats all that matters, great Vlog! BTW my next video all I did was slap some black bars on, used an orange and teal LUT... Ohh and shot in 120fps so you can call me Sir Cinematic from now on!
Thank you for your amazing content, i'm actively looking for fx30 footage as i want a camera with minimum weight to travel with it and for now i guess fx30 with 18-50mm f/2.8 seems to be the perfect fit! Coupled with a Crane m3 what do you think? Maybe own a 15mm or 11mm later on for low light and wide angle :)
Thank you! The 18-50 is a very solid choice! It is a bit wide to do the point-at-your-face vlog but is doable. Sounds like you don't want to vlog in that style anyway seeing as you are wanting to invest in a crane. I would say, yes the 18-50mm with either a 15mm or 11mm is perfect! I wouldn't get both the 15 and 11. Just pick between one or the other. Both are equally great IMO. Another alternative is to get the ZV-E1 if you want the ultimate light and travel-friendly camera :)
Thank you! This lens will perform very well. 18mm is wide. At 50mm you get a very nice up-close portrait lens. The only issue you might have is if the indoor setting is very dark you may need a faster prime lens like an f1.4. A popular combo is the Sigma Trio. If you grab that set you are pretty much covered for everything, but this 18-50mm lens should be perfect honestly.
Yeah, it's on active. I think the FX30 is great for stability because there's hardly any noticeable rolling shutter. I'm not sure how the a6700 is with rolling shutter.
@@noisackda2564 sad 😥 looking for a good all purpose zoom vlog lens that will work with the crop on dynamic and has a good low aperture, have you tried any of the Panasonic cameras? Some of the lenses look intriguing like 12mm -40mm at 2.8 🤔
@@RegalNoise You know for the the ZV-E1 you don't even need a fast lens because it's so good in low light. I used the 20-70mm F4 lens on my trip to Japan where I filmed at night and the image looked clean.

I actually have my eye on this :P. There's also a zoom lens on the Canon system that is an F1.8 that I'm looking at but I will need an adapter so.......

@@Caleast The canon? I love fast lenses and ATM, the only fast lenses on the Sony systems are primes. I also love the versatility of a zoom but the fastest zoom on the Sony system is F2.8. Canon has an F1.8 zoom lens that goes from 18mm-35mm. This lens with an adapter also maintains good autofocus. For me, 20mm is very close-cropped for the way I vlog, but I do like that focal range for when I shoot outward at objects.
@@noisackda2564 this sounds good i can follow, i bought the sony FE 20mm F1.8 G. For flogging i want to use my old sony 10-18 mm lens, maybe i chose the 11mm for my secound. I use the 20mm for cinematic youtube videos in the future.
Thank you! I think this is a pretty basic lut. I color-corrected the heck out of it though. I usually use the stranger things lut from tropicolor for most of my videos though. Check it out.
It's a tough call. For me, I only carry one lens with me at all times. I hate switching lenses so this lens gets a lot of use. The downside is when the sun goes away this lens suffers a bit. If i was to do it from scratch I would get the Canon 18mm-35mm F1.8 with the EF to E mount adapter.
Personally I'd get the 16mm and 56mm sigma. Depends on which camera your using and if you are doing more video than photography, but on Sony Cams with Clear image zoom, you can get an additional 1.5x zoom with no resolution loss. Comes in handy a lot with video but it doesn't apply to photography. I'd only suggest this if you are on a budget and focus on video more than photos.
I don't like the sigma 16. It is too big and has mediocre minimum focusing distance. That is relevant for video work. The sigma 18 to 50 is a better 1 lens option but it also pairs decently well with the sigma 56. There are also wide angle zooms like the tanrom 11 to 20 2.8. If it were me though I would have the 70-350 sony and this sigma. Adapt a vintage lens for 1.4 aperture.
I can’t remember what I used here, but it looks like SLOG3 at 60fps. Probably F stop wide open at f2.8 with ND filter to control exposure. In post I applied a lut and color corrected it for sure, but yeah don’t remember the exact setting since I was still experimenting here.
