If you're actually trying to escort a bomber effectively (as much as that can be done), the proper way to fly isn't side-by-side but above and in front. You want to counter-initiate someone going for an easy kill, not make yourself one of the targets.
I actually enjoy escorting my mate in a bomber or vice versa. We both understand it wont help either of us in any way but its nice to have a good time with a friend trying to stop them from dying whilst they gunship. Gives a bit of a break from the grind or basic prop gameplay of climb, dive, climb, etc.
the thing about escorting is a lot of people just do it wrong, you want to sit about 3k away so that you have enough room to pounce on anything climbing up to take a shot at it, because it will usually be getting slow to take the shot.
If you still fly the F-14 take 6 7F’s and 2 9H’s don’t even waste your time on AIM-64s since 90% of you don’t know how to use them and be more of an annoyance than dangerous.
@@F-18Super I do the same, I fire 2 phoenixes at a distance of 25-30 km mainly, I fire them at targets that are maintaining a relatively high closure rate (at least 400m/s). Preferably at higher altitudes too. It has about a 50% hitrate for me, on average, 1 of the 2 hits. But because I have to pick specific targets to fire at, taking more than 2 ends up being inneffective. The rest of my loadout are 2 9H and 4 7F.

While people bring props into high tier deliberately is a problem, there is a ‘glitch’ where in a squad it can change your nation when you get put in a game. It happens in ground too and it’s really frustrating, but don’t hate any random guy for just being in a prop, it might not be their fault.
Bomber escort can be a legit way to get some frags, but NEVER fly next to the bomber. Set up at least 2km higher and 1km in front, so you can dive on intercepting opponents. There's a reason fighter escorts didn't fly wing by wing with their bombers in real life either. So indeed, as you said "get some speed, get some altitude" :D
for every time I've seen a prop in top tier maybe 1/50 get a kill, honestly can't remember the last time i saw a prop get a kill in top tier; but sure as hell can remember them dying over and over being useless to there team

Im sure some people do deliberately take props into top tier, but in my experience, most prop players at those brs are people in a squad who tried to play a game in a vehicle at that tier but it changed the country they were playing to one a squdmate was to find a game faster or something not too dissimilar. But it can put you inn a game where the country you were trying to play was in your team. There is a glitch that does this, its not fair to hate on someone for being in a prop.
I once escorted 2 Tu4s that decided to play on top tier instead and managed to chaff and flare missiles for them before i ran out and took the hit for them. I AM STILL PROUD OF THAT TO THIS DAY
Honestly the multirole makes sense when the stock grind is just plain ass, and it has to be fast enough to make it. The primary candidates for that are phantoms and tornadoes
The thing I enjoy about 4 phoenix users is the fact it forces the enemy team slow. Like a firefight, suppressing fire is a great tactic that can be achieved even with a radar lock on a target. When that radar lock comes up, now players have to worry about if it's an r27er screaming in to kill them.
IRL they discovered early on that flying with the bombers in formation was useless, so fighter escort late war meant clearing the way ahead of them not flying together with them Same with ships too. Destroyers being in neat cinematic formations just got them killed without accomplishing anything
a good tip if you really want to bomber escort be at a minimum of 2k ft/ 600 m above them so that you can actually get energy when you engage the enemy engaging your bomber!... this strat was common irl in ww2 where they needed to stay really high above the bomber to be most useful so if you are gonna do this plz take into consideration your energy being most necessary for survivability.
2-4 Phoenix missiles. 2 Ain 7’s and 9H’s With the multi role bombing deal, players are kind of forced into it. The guaranteed RP gain for bombing over mate getting a pvp kill is just meh at best. I think until they implement a better system that won’t go away.

i’ve done the 6 phoenix thing many times, but when I rtb i swap my load out to sparrows and sidewinders. I average 3 kills a game with the sparrows at least, and even more if the phoenixes actually connect. If nothing else, i see it as more pressure being out on the enemies.

Regarding multi-role fighters: I love the Kfir Canard. Six 1000lb bombs and two AIM-9Gs, and sometimes I add five 500lb bombs. Go for bases first (The 1000s do one base and the 500s can do half of another). Reaching bases by going wide and low works bc the Canard is super fast, and once you drop you can climb quickly above everyone else and pick off enemies occupied with your teammates. I easily do 1-4 bases and 1-4 enemies a match (depending on how often i can resupply, usually 1 base and 1-2 enemies per run). With premium bonus included, I can quietly do 30k-50k SL and 5k-10k RP a match. Really fast and efficient grinder plane.
taking 6 phoenixes, launching them really fast and then going back to base for a normal loadout is actually quite good (especially in EC maps, where u wont be missing much action by rtb'ing anyway.)
Very valid and true talking points for playing the game competitively... However, after 3000+ hours I have spent in this game; playing with friends and taking props into top tier, multi-rolling, bomber escorting, and going phoenix mode are all some great ways to change up the repetitive nature of WarThunder to just have fun. Being in a discord call with a 3 ship of BV238s in formation over F-16s and Mig-29s is not competitive but rather a good time (in fact you can argue this is encouraged by Gaijin with Thunder Show and the "God Mode" achievement").
TBF everything he said is right, you probably shouldnt be able to do it and i agree on that; but at the same time also agree that if your enjoyment in the game so heavily depends on winning and what OTHER people are doing, you need help. Play the game for fun, if thats bringing a P-51 up to 11.3 every once in a while to fuck about, go for it as long as you arent affecting anyone else which the only way to actually do so would be teamkilling using the P-51. Maybe i just dont take the game seriously enough or something but when i see a prop at top tier i just chuckle and move on with my day and couldnt give less of a shit. I personally dont do that, i dont see the fun in it; but if thats fun to someone else more power to them. What someone else is doing in a game that really only rewards selfish gameplay (plus people end up bitching about teamwork anyhow) does NOT affect you, grow up and just shoot shit and do good on YOUR part. Winning is nice and it gives a little bonus and im happy to win, but dont sit and make your enjoyment rely 100% on winning.
Escorting bombers can actiually work fine from my experience, just instead of slowing down by lowering throttle you slow down by climbing above the bomber so you can B&Z anyone who approaches. It does increase the bomber player's survivability and makes for a lot of kill oppertunities for the fighter. It still may not be the absolute most optimal way of playing the game, but it makes for satisfying teamwork.
#1 best bomber escort is a person who kills the fighters before they reach the bomber in the first place #2 props are decent in jet matches but to an extent I’d say maximum extreme maximum is 9.3 and even then you are limited on prop choice you need something that handles high speed and has enough fire power to kill on a small window. Usually things like Fw-190s or Tempest.. then you pick on the jets that are locked in a dogfight.. after that props are useless due to missiles and just they get too fast as a jet and the window of fire is too small to do any meaningful damage or even get some shots off as for tanks taking a low tier into a high tier is completely different than planes considering generally how tanks are made they have more restrictions than an aircraft usually there is a spot on every MBT that a reserve can punch through. Does not mean it’s useful to the team. #3 biggest tip here… in ground battles do not die once and leave
4:45 usually I get 6 phoenixes 20-30 mins of fuel, go up a bit and speed up, always send 2 missles per person, to dodge one is easy, but to can be tricky to notch or avoid in quite some situations, usually i get 2 or so kills with that, and then RTB, usually the match is almost done when I land or i take 4 aim-7's and aim-9's and 2 phoenixes to clean up the last few players. really effective strat in my experience, but if you only send 1 phoenix per person, the strat is quite dogwater in my experience
Escorting mates in bombers does help. The fact alone that there's more aircraft sometimes gets people to not attack the bomber in the first place. A lone bomber is always a juicy targets. And you can still hunt fighters once ur mate goes rtb after dropping
Last escort fighter I saw ended up pulling a u turn and going the opposite way down the runway when everyone was still taking off, crashing into the guy he wanted to cover

Just recently got the f-14, best load out imo is 2 aim9h, 2 Phoenix, and rest sparrow. Fly high at start and use your radar to catch people trying to fly high, send two phoenixs out on different targets and then then and go cold to avoid the 50 missiles that were launched at you lmao. Is always satisfying to get a fox 3 kill. I like to call it the fox 3 lottery. Another piece of advice for bvr is let the missile cook, I've gotten some crazy nutty 35-40km sparrow kills, the missiles travels for a long time but many people decide to break lock and go oh well guess it didn't hit, but give the missile a chance more often than not it's doing its job. Countless times I've launched a missile and it feels like it's been traveling for minutes and just as I'm about to give up on it I'll get aircraft destroyed.
Only reason I ever took bombs on my 4e is because I had one day left to grind out the naval line before they did construction work on the local power grid.
For the F14, its actually not a bad idea to have the 2 Aim54s on the rear most mounts, since all you can do is either strap bombs onto it, or a single Aim 7. However you can also have 2 Aim 54s on the mount. IMO the 2 Aim 54s are a better choice then the single Aim 7, the 2 Aim 54s usually get me 1 kill every other match and the aim 7s clean up the rest.
You can't go fighter mode with bombs attached. Multirole fighters armed for A2G work do carry A2A weapons, but only for defense, but they also usually have an escorting flight and are prepared to jettison those bombs if they get jumped. The Phoenix missile was designed for shooting down Soviet bombers or the anti-ship missiles they could launch.
the 6 pheonix spam strategy will almost never work due to the few times it has worked for people, its so horrifiying and annoying to see and then you are just dead that now EVERYONE knows "if your fighting the american tree, stick to the deck no matter what" so now it cant even be done because its impossible due to the trauma caused from it.
Point 3 (not like i care about jets) but said strategy sounds like ironically something very smart to do. 6 quick chances for a kill, and then run RTB. Money and no repair costs, valid strategy.

I just watch them F-14's laugh and then play the game. At least the F-14's are scaring somebody halfway across the map and forcing down people from space. Try to use stupidity to an advantage.

In uptiers I bomb truck my f4e. I found it works surprisingly well as long as you know the maps and how players generally behave on a given map. Plus its the only way for me to actually get kills because it puts me in the back lines behind the very scary planes that are better than mine in every way. Fast and low around the side of the map and pop off with df missiles while all the bad guys are distracted in the furball
Multirole fighters: If your main goal is to bomb the bases and you can actually carry as much ordinance as a bomber or attacker, then feel free to do so. It’s quite literally the only degree of variation between these matches especially at high tier. Whatever you need to do to get some ounce of fun out of this game, do it. BVR missiles: just don’t make all of them phoenixes. You have custom load outs for a reason. If you can get 1-2 kills (which he literally demonstrated in this video) go for it, you’re already shove the average. But not even real world F-14s carry only BVRs. Bomber escort: if you’re flying in formation with the bomber, you’re doing it wrong. Fly above it and dive on anyone who tries to come at it. It’s giant flying bait that can easily net you free kills. F*ck this fighter main “only play the game my way” TH-camr, do what works best for you and have fun with your teammates.
When you learn how to use the AIM-7F it is a far superior weapon to the Phoenix for everything except extreme long range. You can use it in dogfights, it has good min range, and it's still decent at BVR. My load out for most games on the maps that are far too small for the Tomcat is 6 AIM-7Fs and 2 AIM-9Hs. When it's an EC map I usually bring 4 Phoenixes, 2 Sparrows and 2 Sidewinders, so I can lob 4 Phoenixes at the high alt enemies at 30 miles and scare the crap out of them when it goes pitbull and I'm still good for actually fighting enemies. Escorting bombers, ah, what lost the Germans the Battle of Britain. If you're slow in a fighter, you're dead. If you want to escort, keep climbing above your bomber pal and gain more energy so you can dive on any enemy interceptors.
The pheonix missile doesn't pull very much G, but typically what I like to do is get ultra high and fast, like Mach 1.3 and 15kft+, then around 40 miles I'll launch a couple of the 54's, first one TWS, second one STT but a little later, and from a different aspect as the first one. So 40mi and 35-28mi are both pheonix shots, then I'll crank holding the lock until slowly they both break (wasting time for the missiles to close, and to scrap theirs) THEN, believe it or not, I run two dogfight sparrows, and launch that around 10-13 miles, and of course the 9G or 9H. It's basically the 2x2x2 but with two more 54s. Only really usable in Simulator, but if you have cloud coverage hiding your cons and the missiles, and use the radar tilt to look down effectively without losing altitude. Not to mention you can at times murder bomber formations from 50 miles away. The F14 is a big brain plane and it has a lot of potential outside of the "meta"
F5C has a much better time than the F5E at base bombing, the difference in BR is HUGE. Also loadout is important, F5C you should only bring in 4 napalms to get a single base kill, anything more wont net you huge rewards and hurts the planes performance too much leaving you even more vulnerable. Biggest thing for bombing bases is you HAVE to spend 80% of the time looking behind you, 19% above you and 1% in front of you. You should also be on the deck not chilling a few thousand feet up trying to dive bomb with the F5. Bomb just like you would in the phantom and just get used to doing it without the bomb spot indicator. Also helps to play with friends who are focusing on pure dog fighting to help cover you or friends willing to flip roles every few games. Base bombing is just too big of a reward to not do, especially when you are hurting for SL.
Bombing bases and then going fighter mode is the only thing that's viable for grinding modules for certain planes. Im always flying the Su-17M4 and used to do that but now that I have it spaded i still carry two tv guided missiles, they can be launched far away and gives me time to focus on the enemy instead. At the very least i get two ground units and some RP.
The only reason I managed to grind the upgrade missiles for my Phantom was because I was bombing bases. It at least gives you a baseline RP per match considering stock loadouts suck. In my experience, I grind out fighters with bombs at least twice as fast compared to fighters that don't carry bombs
9:10 Absolutely the case. Hell, last time I played the Tu-4 with a few friends, we had a bunch of games where teammates would run towards one of us to clear their six. It worked every time though, because god damn that's a lot of 23s.
Bombing bases never wins a game. Shooting AI ground targets could with ticket drain, but fighters can do that. Bombers themselves are useless to the team. Troll squading is of course not going to help you win and neither is shooting off 6 fail missiles and immediately leaving the battle to airfield. Sounds like i just struck a nerve of yours
One small addition: people need to avoid full-commit headon trades with the first enemy they see. The thing with escorting bombers, nobody does it right and everyone gets mad when you tell them not to _form up._ Always see people flying wing-to-wing with the bomber, trying to get as close as possible, often popping smoke, never in an advantageous position above and off to the side of the bomber, at altitude. Prop matches where a bomber asks for escort often devolve into air shows where 3 fighters dive to the deck with a bomber, presenting the enemy with a feeding frenzy and leaving the team at a multi-aircraft disadvantage, moreso than if there was just a couple bombers unescorted. Basically the same thing eventually happens with prop failsquads in jets.
I had a guy bring a LA-5 I think into a 9.0 lobby, after he proceeded to something invariably cringe and unfunny in chat I made fun of him and his buddy for it, he said he'd do better than me(neither of them did) they both challenged me to a 1v1 and I beat them both. Those are the only times it's worth ever putting the amount of effort I put into this game i fucking hate reddit
Bombing yields more research than getting player kills. same for silver lions. How do I know? I used a a-10 to experiment. Smaller bombs yield more silver lions while larger ones yield more research. Edit: plane kills yield more silver lions. bombing yields more research for the most part.
8:50 the problem is that they are doing it wrong. They should be flying higher then bomber, with normal throttle and in front of him to intercept enemy fighters earlier ;p
Disagree with your first point. Let me bomb bases in my f5c in peace. 1. I avoid the initial furball 2. I rarely die before i get the bases because i actually have spatial awareness so missiles arent an issue. 3. I get more resarch and sl per match bUt KiLl OtHeR pLaNeS iNsTeAd? Yeah i still do. Average 2 kills a match in the f5c.
#2 in tank battles is kinda fun tbh, but not in jets at all in the slightest. The early-tier 150mm tank destroyers like the Spj Fm 43-44 are a decently fun way to grind SL, at least for players who are better at the game than I am.
the ad he plays is definitly one of those apps where you could theoritically get GE but in reality it would take like 4 months of downloading apps on your phone to get any GE
if you don’t want the boring monotony of always attack players. then taking a bomb load with some missle spices things up. highly suggest doing it in a fast vehicle ex. f16 or f14
The best part about the people who 'escort' bombers is they aren't even escorting them in the WWII sense. If they were they would be 2+km above the bombers, and would be out in front to engage the interceptors BEFORE they reach the formation. Y'know, performing a fighter sweep like escort planes are supposed to do? They are just mouse aiming in shitty formation. As far as AIM-54s go, I think it is best to take 2 and launch them early in the match. Sure you usually won't hit anything, but in the 1/5 game you do get a kill with them it is a little bonus. The real reason is because usually you won't be able to expend all 6 AIM-7Fs before you need to start maneuvering usually and so it's better to have less weight at that point.
As far as bombers go, I think they should just stick together then split off closer to targets. That’s a much more efficient use of the resources and fighters that are available.
I'm surprised you mentioned bomber escorts without mentioning players dumping all their altitude for a bomber kill. I watched my entire team dive on a low flying b-17. I look up and the entire team is flying twords me.
Just a warning, with tip #1, if you have a Mach 1+ fighter like the kfir canard and you use aim9-g missiles with the 6 1000lb bombs you get 1.5 bases per game if you know what you’re doing. I did it and I get about 200k rp per hour if I get 1 base and 1 player kill per game, it will research a good bit as long as you know how to do it effectively
I carry 4 aim 54, it's a decent missle and now usable with the added range of maps. Even then using all 4 I usually only get 1 kill sometimes 2. Who to I take them then. The pure range means I can launch 4 get a few kills before I need to get into ranges where I'm vulnerable. Which allows me to assess and change position before engaging with sparrows and sidewinders
I always carry a mix of missiles on my F14. I stage them for ranges like a layered offense/defense. Phoenix first, Sparrow, then sidewinder. Sometimes I completely leave out the sparrow, but I always keep the sidewinder. It's reliable. The range on the sidewinders helps deal with their poor flight characteristics. You can fire them from far enough away that the enemy usually isn't expecting them. As for escorting bombers, I tend to climb to at most 1km above them and fly in a large S flight path to keep my speed up while staying close to them and technically not outpacing them. I only do this for friends, and even then it's not common.
I have a question, I haven't played warthunder in about 2-3months and when I came back I noticed some things about props and jets but I'll focus on jets did the aim-9bs get buffed? Because I was playing the F3H-2 and chased a enemy and fired a missile (aim-9b) and he turned fairly hard but the missile tracked and killed him.. which confused me because I never seen a 9b do that before
TL;DR 1) don't use bombs on fighter jets 2) balance your BR ratings between your vehicles 3) you don't ALWAYS have to take 6 phoenixes when using F14 4) (almost exclusively a US team problem) escorting bombers is a bad idea if you're a fighter 5) if you HAVE to escort bombers, use height to your advantage, and swoop enemies when they try to attack the bomber.
The funny thing about being bombs for "extra rewards" is that bombs decrease your SL gain (hidden values). Like Napalm bombs are .4x and normal bombs are .8x depending on the plane.
I LOVE when i see a low tier plane in jet matches, its not a good idea but it honestly makes me smile every time i see it, and when i see a b 29 or similar me and other players will from up on them and try to escort them to the target. I guess you dont find it cute but when it happens to me in my matches i do in fact find it cute and i am not alone.
tbf the phantoms aren't exactly built for extended air to air encounters. Especially the F-4C, the Aim-7D ain't exactly competitive with their 10g or so overload. And the 4E constantly getting uptiered to 12.0 without PD for the 7E-2s
For the fighter bomber thing, I stock grinded the F-4E in about 5 hours by running a x6 1000lb + 9J's and eventually Sparrows loadout. Played maybe 60 matches and got to bomb about 80% of the time while making it to the end of the game were either we won or my team disappeared and we lost due to it being a 5 v 1. x6 1000lb bombs is the optimal loadout for bombing bases in the F-4E imo, you are faster than pretty much everyone else wanting to bomb (Mainly Phantoms). I usually go to the left most base, call it and haul ass at tree top level, everybody knows that going to the right is suicide so you will most likely not get intercepted by the enemy.
Boomed so many bases and killed a few people in fighters. If you don’t keep an eye on the enemy then they will sneak up on you. That don’t make attacking bases with fighters not good for competitive play. That just means you were not paying attention lol. Look all around you. And don’t let them get the jump on you.
To be fair I used to take the cannon Corsair into "top tier" when TT was mig15s and sabres. Id get 1-2 kills a match because everyone had jet confidence and tried to win turn fights and the Corsair isnt slow she can move and even actually fought migs in Korea. But trying to bring a prop against jets with afterburners is just dumb :|
I agree with all but the first one, multi role or fighter bomber is the best way to grind in air RB, i grinded almost all of top tier germany air with the f4f bombing bases.
Escorting bombers is anything but a bad idea. Most people go brain dead and tunnel vision on the bomber, which means you get an easy kill most matches, and, the bomber gets to live and score points, earning it RP and SL, and you both have fun at Gaijin's expense, because there's no non-meta incentive to escort bombers specifically because WT is modeled around frustration, and anything we as players can do to DECREASE frustration is a net good. It encourages teamwork, which is vital to winning games, and if more people were inclined to assist one another and get over the killsteal mentality, we'd all benefit in random matches, because we could know someone will help. Instead of shadowing you until you die, to bag your bandit, so *you* can't take it.
6 phoenixes at the start of the game makes the enemy team either go defensive at the start or go down in flames because they don't care about looking for missile contrails/ don't know how to evade
The only 2 I've done was the multirole and bringing a lower tier plane to a higher tier lobby, I do the multirole thing in my F4J to get repair cost money then I fight, and I uptiered myself in arcade to get god mode once or twice.
Counter point for Fighter Bomber: If you want to go bomb bases, think yourself as a bomber and not a fighter, do not attempt any unnecessary engagements on the way to target If you get caught by a group of enemy fighters and bombing mission seems unlikely, always ditch bombs first before taking an engagement, do not hold onto them thinking "I can bomb a base later" as holding onto those bombs is usually a death sentence When you're a bomber you're a bomber, when you're a fighter you're a fighter, you're never both at the same time
I had to bring that one Chaika into that one game to try to kill a jet that one time. I got the kill but also I have not done it since, it was still cool for me though. I also had brought my jets for what it is worth so the first three or so minutes I was mostly useless.
Ok on the multi-role thing… first, yeah if you have a *good* fighter don’t waste your time, but on the way to the good fighters a lot of us have to spend time in planes like the F-4C that can’t just go in guns blazing. Also your example with the F-5 was painful to watch for two reasons… the F-5 is too slow and doesn’t carry enough ordinance to make this worth doing and if you’re going to do it you have to be able accurately hit a target in a very shallow angle at the highest speed you can achieve; if you have to literally dive bomb absolutely do not try this. Grinding my way up to supersonic jets I would do this with the F-84 to abuse the air spawn. Start with the bombs and ground target belts, on the way in look for easy bomber head ons, drop on a base at shallow angle, and then vector in towards the center of the map to boom and zoom slow fighters and/or pop pillboxes. Personally I’m just not good enough to reliably kill other planes, especially in the kinds of “not meta” planes I often have to use on the way up the tech tree… so I have to generate RP and SL any way I can.
Realistic Air just needs to change. The rules of air RB is consistent up until you get to the missiles, it stays pretty balanced even with rear aspects, but once you get into the all aspect missiles, the game mode just isn't interesting. No idea how they can balance, but this tier needs a game mode that fits between simulator and RB. Being able to see targets from 5km away alone is pretty unrealistic, I think we are looking at the wrong problems by blaming overpowered jets, the main issue is how players use rules set since 1.0 rank to their advantage. Gaijin could start by overhauling Air RB on things like. -distance targets are acquired, it SHOULD be difficult to acquire targets, and having a giant red box from 6km away makes radars almost pointless. Turn off red boxes, or at the least make it 2km distance for the box. -base AA being used more to scout enemies rather than just outright destroy them until they are within a close proximity. Maybe put a ping on the map like in ground RB when a target is hit but not destroyed. Even a new scouting system could be useful. (There are probably a lot of views on base AA, this is just mine) -more weather conditions and more AI ground and air targets, reduce tickets for each AI destroyed. (The truth hurts, and the truth is if everyone farmed AI, we would all come out with more rewards. The current system pushes games to be essentially deathmatches, even with objectives 80% of games will end with team eliminations) -less rewards for bombing bases and player kills (Give bombers more than just bases, and I have never seen one person go for a bridge) I love this game and the community, I feel some of my viewpoints might resonate with a lot of players, but air RB just feels like a fast version of air AB right now and it really shows when you get into the 9.7 area and above.
Being real with you, just about the most efficient and consistent way I have found to grind for the F-16 is based bombing with the F4E. 9 times out of 10 I get at least one base, most of the time I'm getting two. Likewise I would say about half the matches I get at least one kill as well and from a time standpoint it's incredibly efficient. Using the F4E air-to-air is so inconsistent right now.
It's more effective for you right now because you are still too bad at air to air. When you are good enought it's much faster to grind doing air to air only because you are consistent. The question is do you want to get good as fast as possible or do you want to grind as fast as possible ? Taking bomb gives you less opportunity to improove at air to air wich is bad for you in the long run imo.
Yeah I disagree with 2 of topics he talked about in this game. First one is multi-role and second one is 6 phoenix. Idk which type of players this video is aimed at but i feel like by the way he explains these things is like were braindead players. First of multi-role is the best way to grind(usually bomb and start fighting). Second one is the 6 phoenix, it is a really good missile in the right hands. I feel like he is one of those players that’s like “oh my phoenixes are not hitting so he comes into a conclusion that it is a bad missile”. Just like I said if the F-14 players knows what he’s doing it is a really dangerous missile.
@@meatbutter3510 yeah most of the time tomcat shoot me down its from well placed Phoenixes, now I don't know how many I dodge but when a good tomcat player uses a Phoenix it can be hard to avoid, and yeah fighter bombing is a great way to grind.
I at one point in time took 6 aim 54s only. Not even sidewinders. Min fuel and took off so fast and b line straight to enemy. Fire my 6 54s and rtb while dropping flares and would get 3-4 kills most games. Cause I didn’t have the extra weight of fuel and went as fast as possible at the enemy they didn’t even have time to even get to mach 1 for me to kill them.
If you are going to do a multi-role, have enough bombs for one base and have them set so all drop at once, that way if you have an aircraft behind you, you can drop bombs and start dogfighting them (I'm looking at you f5c mains)

If you are using the Phoenix properly 4is the most you would ever need I bring 4 aim54 2 aim7 and 2 aim 9 Phoenix is reserved for high alt high speed bandits that are closing and if they are low and slow which happens relatively often in high tier Jetsyou San get super easy kills cause the phoenix is doing Mach 3 and they aren’t even doing 700 kph
If you're actually trying to escort a bomber effectively (as much as that can be done), the proper way to fly isn't side-by-side but above and in front. You want to counter-initiate someone going for an easy kill, not make yourself one of the targets.

I actually enjoy escorting my mate in a bomber or vice versa. We both understand it wont help either of us in any way but its nice to have a good time with a friend trying to stop them from dying whilst they gunship. Gives a bit of a break from the grind or basic prop gameplay of climb, dive, climb, etc.

the thing about escorting is a lot of people just do it wrong, you want to sit about 3k away so that you have enough room to pounce on anything climbing up to take a shot at it, because it will usually be getting slow to take the shot.

If you still fly the F-14 take 6 7F’s and 2 9H’s don’t even waste your time on AIM-64s since 90% of you don’t know how to use them and be more of an annoyance than dangerous.
I usually take 2 phoenixes to fire at high fast flying targets. It makes them either go defensive or die, and then I can launch my 7F's at them.

@@F-18Super I do the same, I fire 2 phoenixes at a distance of 25-30 km mainly, I fire them at targets that are maintaining a relatively high closure rate (at least 400m/s). Preferably at higher altitudes too. It has about a 50% hitrate for me, on average, 1 of the 2 hits.
But because I have to pick specific targets to fire at, taking more than 2 ends up being inneffective. The rest of my loadout are 2 9H and 4 7F.

Bomber escort can be a legit way to get some frags, but NEVER fly next to the bomber. Set up at least 2km higher and 1km in front, so you can dive on intercepting opponents. There's a reason fighter escorts didn't fly wing by wing with their bombers in real life either. So indeed, as you said "get some speed, get some altitude" :D
for every time I've seen a prop in top tier maybe 1/50 get a kill, honestly can't remember the last time i saw a prop get a kill in top tier; but sure as hell can remember them dying over and over being useless to there team

Im sure some people do deliberately take props into top tier, but in my experience, most prop players at those brs are people in a squad who tried to play a game in a vehicle at that tier but it changed the country they were playing to one a squdmate was to find a game faster or something not too dissimilar. But it can put you inn a game where the country you were trying to play was in your team. There is a glitch that does this, its not fair to hate on someone for being in a prop.

I once escorted 2 Tu4s that decided to play on top tier instead and managed to chaff and flare missiles for them before i ran out and took the hit for them.

Honestly the multirole makes sense when the stock grind is just plain ass, and it has to be fast enough to make it. The primary candidates for that are phantoms and tornadoes
The thing I enjoy about 4 phoenix users is the fact it forces the enemy team slow. Like a firefight, suppressing fire is a great tactic that can be achieved even with a radar lock on a target. When that radar lock comes up, now players have to worry about if it's an r27er screaming in to kill them.

IRL they discovered early on that flying with the bombers in formation was useless, so fighter escort late war meant clearing the way ahead of them not flying together with them
Same with ships too. Destroyers being in neat cinematic formations just got them killed without accomplishing anything
a good tip if you really want to bomber escort be at a minimum of 2k ft/ 600 m above them so that you can actually get energy when you engage the enemy engaging your bomber!... this strat was common irl in ww2 where they needed to stay really high above the bomber to be most useful so if you are gonna do this plz take into consideration your energy being most necessary for survivability.
I haven't played a huge amount of the F-14, but I've found that only taking 2x AIM54s and loading up on Sparrows is the way to go.
Literally my exact loadout. Lob them at long range from high altitude in TWS and watch the snipe show begin.
I usually take 4 Phoenixes but probably should use 2 instead...

With the multi role bombing deal, players are kind of forced into it. The guaranteed RP gain for bombing over mate getting a pvp kill is just meh at best.

i’ve done the 6 phoenix thing many times, but when I rtb i swap my load out to sparrows and sidewinders. I average 3 kills a game with the sparrows at least, and even more if the phoenixes actually connect. If nothing else, i see it as more pressure being out on the enemies.

Regarding multi-role fighters: I love the Kfir Canard. Six 1000lb bombs and two AIM-9Gs, and sometimes I add five 500lb bombs. Go for bases first (The 1000s do one base and the 500s can do half of another). Reaching bases by going wide and low works bc the Canard is super fast, and once you drop you can climb quickly above everyone else and pick off enemies occupied with your teammates. I easily do 1-4 bases and 1-4 enemies a match (depending on how often i can resupply, usually 1 base and 1-2 enemies per run). With premium bonus included, I can quietly do 30k-50k SL and 5k-10k RP a match. Really fast and efficient grinder plane.
It's rather sad the cap for rp every time is 10k.
I do this also. It's probably my favourite plane, especially since the decompression and gets down tiered alot, which makes it a God tier plane

taking 6 phoenixes, launching them really fast and then going back to base for a normal loadout is actually quite good (especially in EC maps, where u wont be missing much action by rtb'ing anyway.)

However, after 3000+ hours I have spent in this game; playing with friends and taking props into top tier, multi-rolling, bomber escorting, and going phoenix mode are all some great ways to change up the repetitive nature of WarThunder to just have fun.
Being in a discord call with a 3 ship of BV238s in formation over F-16s and Mig-29s is not competitive but rather a good time (in fact you can argue this is encouraged by Gaijin with Thunder Show and the "God Mode" achievement").
TBF everything he said is right, you probably shouldnt be able to do it and i agree on that; but at the same time also agree that if your enjoyment in the game so heavily depends on winning and what OTHER people are doing, you need help. Play the game for fun, if thats bringing a P-51 up to 11.3 every once in a while to fuck about, go for it as long as you arent affecting anyone else which the only way to actually do so would be teamkilling using the P-51. Maybe i just dont take the game seriously enough or something but when i see a prop at top tier i just chuckle and move on with my day and couldnt give less of a shit. I personally dont do that, i dont see the fun in it; but if thats fun to someone else more power to them. What someone else is doing in a game that really only rewards selfish gameplay (plus people end up bitching about teamwork anyhow) does NOT affect you, grow up and just shoot shit and do good on YOUR part. Winning is nice and it gives a little bonus and im happy to win, but dont sit and make your enjoyment rely 100% on winning.
6 Phoenix is tactically stupid, but also funni. Typically only done when you have squad of 4. So you have 24 of them flying towards the enemy.
Escorting bombers can actiually work fine from my experience, just instead of slowing down by lowering throttle you slow down by climbing above the bomber so you can B&Z anyone who approaches. It does increase the bomber player's survivability and makes for a lot of kill oppertunities for the fighter. It still may not be the absolute most optimal way of playing the game, but it makes for satisfying teamwork.
#1 best bomber escort is a person who kills the fighters before they reach the bomber in the first place
#2 props are decent in jet matches but to an extent I’d say maximum extreme maximum is 9.3 and even then you are limited on prop choice you need something that handles high speed and has enough fire power to kill on a small window. Usually things like Fw-190s or Tempest.. then you pick on the jets that are locked in a dogfight.. after that props are useless due to missiles and just they get too fast as a jet and the window of fire is too small to do any meaningful damage or even get some shots off as for tanks taking a low tier into a high tier is completely different than planes considering generally how tanks are made they have more restrictions than an aircraft usually there is a spot on every MBT that a reserve can punch through.
Does not mean it’s useful to the team.

4:45 usually I get 6 phoenixes 20-30 mins of fuel, go up a bit and speed up, always send 2 missles per person, to dodge one is easy, but to can be tricky to notch or avoid in quite some situations, usually i get 2 or so kills with that, and then RTB, usually the match is almost done when I land or i take 4 aim-7's and aim-9's and 2 phoenixes to clean up the last few players. really effective strat in my experience, but if you only send 1 phoenix per person, the strat is quite dogwater in my experience
Escorting mates in bombers does help. The fact alone that there's more aircraft sometimes gets people to not attack the bomber in the first place. A lone bomber is always a juicy targets. And you can still hunt fighters once ur mate goes rtb after dropping
Last escort fighter I saw ended up pulling a u turn and going the opposite way down the runway when everyone was still taking off, crashing into the guy he wanted to cover

Just recently got the f-14, best load out imo is 2 aim9h, 2 Phoenix, and rest sparrow. Fly high at start and use your radar to catch people trying to fly high, send two phoenixs out on different targets and then then and go cold to avoid the 50 missiles that were launched at you lmao. Is always satisfying to get a fox 3 kill. I like to call it the fox 3 lottery. Another piece of advice for bvr is let the missile cook, I've gotten some crazy nutty 35-40km sparrow kills, the missiles travels for a long time but many people decide to break lock and go oh well guess it didn't hit, but give the missile a chance more often than not it's doing its job. Countless times I've launched a missile and it feels like it's been traveling for minutes and just as I'm about to give up on it I'll get aircraft destroyed.
Only reason I ever took bombs on my 4e is because I had one day left to grind out the naval line before they did construction work on the local power grid.
For the F14, its actually not a bad idea to have the 2 Aim54s on the rear most mounts, since all you can do is either strap bombs onto it, or a single Aim 7. However you can also have 2 Aim 54s on the mount. IMO the 2 Aim 54s are a better choice then the single Aim 7, the 2 Aim 54s usually get me 1 kill every other match and the aim 7s clean up the rest.
You can't go fighter mode with bombs attached. Multirole fighters armed for A2G work do carry A2A weapons, but only for defense, but they also usually have an escorting flight and are prepared to jettison those bombs if they get jumped. The Phoenix missile was designed for shooting down Soviet bombers or the anti-ship missiles they could launch.
i use my f4e to grind new toptier, i have a talisman on it and bombing bases is real nice for RP, then i still have 4 9j's
the 6 pheonix spam strategy will almost never work due to the few times it has worked for people, its so horrifiying and annoying to see and then you are just dead that now EVERYONE knows "if your fighting the american tree, stick to the deck no matter what" so now it cant even be done because its impossible due to the trauma caused from it.
If people want to Bomb then RB EC needs to return as Bombing would actually work towards ECs objective goals. RB queue is PVP and PVP only.
Point 3 (not like i care about jets) but said strategy sounds like ironically something very smart to do. 6 quick chances for a kill, and then run RTB. Money and no repair costs, valid strategy.

I just watch them F-14's laugh and then play the game. At least the F-14's are scaring somebody halfway across the map and forcing down people from space. Try to use stupidity to an advantage.

In uptiers I bomb truck my f4e. I found it works surprisingly well as long as you know the maps and how players generally behave on a given map. Plus its the only way for me to actually get kills because it puts me in the back lines behind the very scary planes that are better than mine in every way. Fast and low around the side of the map and pop off with df missiles while all the bad guys are distracted in the furball
Story of my F4 career.
Multirole fighters: If your main goal is to bomb the bases and you can actually carry as much ordinance as a bomber or attacker, then feel free to do so. It’s quite literally the only degree of variation between these matches especially at high tier. Whatever you need to do to get some ounce of fun out of this game, do it.
BVR missiles: just don’t make all of them phoenixes. You have custom load outs for a reason. If you can get 1-2 kills (which he literally demonstrated in this video) go for it, you’re already shove the average. But not even real world F-14s carry only BVRs.
Bomber escort: if you’re flying in formation with the bomber, you’re doing it wrong. Fly above it and dive on anyone who tries to come at it. It’s giant flying bait that can easily net you free kills. F*ck this fighter main “only play the game my way” TH-camr, do what works best for you and have fun with your teammates.
When you learn how to use the AIM-7F it is a far superior weapon to the Phoenix for everything except extreme long range. You can use it in dogfights, it has good min range, and it's still decent at BVR. My load out for most games on the maps that are far too small for the Tomcat is 6 AIM-7Fs and 2 AIM-9Hs. When it's an EC map I usually bring 4 Phoenixes, 2 Sparrows and 2 Sidewinders, so I can lob 4 Phoenixes at the high alt enemies at 30 miles and scare the crap out of them when it goes pitbull and I'm still good for actually fighting enemies.
Escorting bombers, ah, what lost the Germans the Battle of Britain. If you're slow in a fighter, you're dead. If you want to escort, keep climbing above your bomber pal and gain more energy so you can dive on any enemy interceptors.
The pheonix missile doesn't pull very much G, but typically what I like to do is get ultra high and fast, like Mach 1.3 and 15kft+, then around 40 miles I'll launch a couple of the 54's, first one TWS, second one STT but a little later, and from a different aspect as the first one. So 40mi and 35-28mi are both pheonix shots, then I'll crank holding the lock until slowly they both break (wasting time for the missiles to close, and to scrap theirs)
THEN, believe it or not, I run two dogfight sparrows, and launch that around 10-13 miles, and of course the 9G or 9H. It's basically the 2x2x2 but with two more 54s.
Only really usable in Simulator, but if you have cloud coverage hiding your cons and the missiles, and use the radar tilt to look down effectively without losing altitude. Not to mention you can at times murder bomber formations from 50 miles away.
The F14 is a big brain plane and it has a lot of potential outside of the "meta"
F5C has a much better time than the F5E at base bombing, the difference in BR is HUGE. Also loadout is important, F5C you should only bring in 4 napalms to get a single base kill, anything more wont net you huge rewards and hurts the planes performance too much leaving you even more vulnerable. Biggest thing for bombing bases is you HAVE to spend 80% of the time looking behind you, 19% above you and 1% in front of you. You should also be on the deck not chilling a few thousand feet up trying to dive bomb with the F5. Bomb just like you would in the phantom and just get used to doing it without the bomb spot indicator. Also helps to play with friends who are focusing on pure dog fighting to help cover you or friends willing to flip roles every few games. Base bombing is just too big of a reward to not do, especially when you are hurting for SL.
Bring 2 napalm and. a 2000lb bomb it’s super fast and can kill the base
Bombing bases and then going fighter mode is the only thing that's viable for grinding modules for certain planes. Im always flying the Su-17M4 and used to do that but now that I have it spaded i still carry two tv guided missiles, they can be launched far away and gives me time to focus on the enemy instead. At the very least i get two ground units and some RP.
The only reason I managed to grind the upgrade missiles for my Phantom was because I was bombing bases. It at least gives you a baseline RP per match considering stock loadouts suck. In my experience, I grind out fighters with bombs at least twice as fast compared to fighters that don't carry bombs
9:10 Absolutely the case. Hell, last time I played the Tu-4 with a few friends, we had a bunch of games where teammates would run towards one of us to clear their six. It worked every time though, because god damn that's a lot of 23s.

Bombing bases never wins a game. Shooting AI ground targets could with ticket drain, but fighters can do that. Bombers themselves are useless to the team. Troll squading is of course not going to help you win and neither is shooting off 6 fail missiles and immediately leaving the battle to airfield. Sounds like i just struck a nerve of yours

Honestly at the beginning of the match i like escorting bombers to kill some noobs attacking it.
One small addition: people need to avoid full-commit headon trades with the first enemy they see.
The thing with escorting bombers, nobody does it right and everyone gets mad when you tell them not to _form up._ Always see people flying wing-to-wing with the bomber, trying to get as close as possible, often popping smoke, never in an advantageous position above and off to the side of the bomber, at altitude.
Prop matches where a bomber asks for escort often devolve into air shows where 3 fighters dive to the deck with a bomber, presenting the enemy with a feeding frenzy and leaving the team at a multi-aircraft disadvantage, moreso than if there was just a couple bombers unescorted. Basically the same thing eventually happens with prop failsquads in jets.

I had a guy bring a LA-5 I think into a 9.0 lobby, after he proceeded to something invariably cringe and unfunny in chat I made fun of him and his buddy for it, he said he'd do better than me(neither of them did) they both challenged me to a 1v1 and I beat them both.
Those are the only times it's worth ever putting the amount of effort I put into this game

I lost count how many times I got called derogatory names for saying escorting bombers is a BAD idea.
Bombing yields more research than getting player kills. same for silver lions. How do I know? I used a a-10 to experiment. Smaller bombs yield more silver lions while larger ones yield more research.
Edit: plane kills yield more silver lions. bombing yields more research for the most part.
8:50 the problem is that they are doing it wrong. They should be flying higher then bomber, with normal throttle and in front of him to intercept enemy fighters earlier ;p

#2 in tank battles is kinda fun tbh, but not in jets at all in the slightest. The early-tier 150mm tank destroyers like the Spj Fm 43-44 are a decently fun way to grind SL, at least for players who are better at the game than I am.
the ad he plays is definitly one of those apps where you could theoritically get GE but in reality it would take like 4 months of downloading apps on your phone to get any GE

if you don’t want the boring monotony of always attack players. then taking a bomb load with some missle spices things up. highly suggest doing it in a fast vehicle ex. f16 or f14

The best part about the people who 'escort' bombers is they aren't even escorting them in the WWII sense. If they were they would be 2+km above the bombers, and would be out in front to engage the interceptors BEFORE they reach the formation. Y'know, performing a fighter sweep like escort planes are supposed to do? They are just mouse aiming in shitty formation.
As far as AIM-54s go, I think it is best to take 2 and launch them early in the match. Sure you usually won't hit anything, but in the 1/5 game you do get a kill with them it is a little bonus. The real reason is because usually you won't be able to expend all 6 AIM-7Fs before you need to start maneuvering usually and so it's better to have less weight at that point.
I did the lower tier in a high tier thing a few times for the achievement, I flew in a Beaufort and my rear gunner pilot sniped a Mig-15.
The only time you need escort is when you are already getting attacked and are close to your friendlies
As far as bombers go, I think they should just stick together then split off closer to targets. That’s a much more efficient use of the resources and fighters that are available.
I'm surprised you mentioned bomber escorts without mentioning players dumping all their altitude for a bomber kill. I watched my entire team dive on a low flying b-17. I look up and the entire team is flying twords me.
Just a warning, with tip #1, if you have a Mach 1+ fighter like the kfir canard and you use aim9-g missiles with the 6 1000lb bombs you get 1.5 bases per game if you know what you’re doing. I did it and I get about 200k rp per hour if I get 1 base and 1 player kill per game, it will research a good bit as long as you know how to do it effectively
I carry 4 aim 54, it's a decent missle and now usable with the added range of maps. Even then using all 4 I usually only get 1 kill sometimes 2. Who to I take them then. The pure range means I can launch 4 get a few kills before I need to get into ranges where I'm vulnerable. Which allows me to assess and change position before engaging with sparrows and sidewinders
I always carry a mix of missiles on my F14. I stage them for ranges like a layered offense/defense. Phoenix first, Sparrow, then sidewinder. Sometimes I completely leave out the sparrow, but I always keep the sidewinder. It's reliable. The range on the sidewinders helps deal with their poor flight characteristics. You can fire them from far enough away that the enemy usually isn't expecting them. As for escorting bombers, I tend to climb to at most 1km above them and fly in a large S flight path to keep my speed up while staying close to them and technically not outpacing them. I only do this for friends, and even then it's not common.
I have a question, I haven't played warthunder in about 2-3months and when I came back I noticed some things about props and jets but I'll focus on jets did the aim-9bs get buffed? Because I was playing the F3H-2 and chased a enemy and fired a missile (aim-9b) and he turned fairly hard but the missile tracked and killed him.. which confused me because I never seen a 9b do that before
All missiles pull harder
TL;DR
1) don't use bombs on fighter jets
2) balance your BR ratings between your vehicles
3) you don't ALWAYS have to take 6 phoenixes when using F14
4) (almost exclusively a US team problem) escorting bombers is a bad idea if you're a fighter
5) if you HAVE to escort bombers, use height to your advantage, and swoop enemies when they try to attack the bomber.
The funny thing about being bombs for "extra rewards" is that bombs decrease your SL gain (hidden values). Like Napalm bombs are .4x and normal bombs are .8x depending on the plane.

That number only applies to the total number of sl you get from hitting a base. The SL gain stays the same for killing other players.

I LOVE when i see a low tier plane in jet matches, its not a good idea but it honestly makes me smile every time i see it, and when i see a b 29 or similar me and other players will from up on them and try to escort them to the target. I guess you dont find it cute but when it happens to me in my matches i do in fact find it cute and i am not alone.

tbf the phantoms aren't exactly built for extended air to air encounters. Especially the F-4C, the Aim-7D ain't exactly competitive with their 10g or so overload. And the 4E constantly getting uptiered to 12.0 without PD for the 7E-2s
For the fighter bomber thing, I stock grinded the F-4E in about 5 hours by running a x6 1000lb + 9J's and eventually Sparrows loadout. Played maybe 60 matches and got to bomb about 80% of the time while making it to the end of the game were either we won or my team disappeared and we lost due to it being a 5 v 1.
x6 1000lb bombs is the optimal loadout for bombing bases in the F-4E imo, you are faster than pretty much everyone else wanting to bomb (Mainly Phantoms).
I usually go to the left most base, call it and haul ass at tree top level, everybody knows that going to the right is suicide so you will most likely not get intercepted by the enemy.

I do the first one with the f16 and it works about 80% of the time. A base and 2 to 3 kills. I profit so I see no issue
Boomed so many bases and killed a few people in fighters. If you don’t keep an eye on the enemy then they will sneak up on you.
That don’t make attacking bases with fighters not good for competitive play.

To be fair I used to take the cannon Corsair into "top tier" when TT was mig15s and sabres. Id get 1-2 kills a match because everyone had jet confidence and tried to win turn fights and the Corsair isnt slow she can move and even actually fought migs in Korea. But trying to bring a prop against jets with afterburners is just dumb :|
I agree with all but the first one, multi role or fighter bomber is the best way to grind in air RB, i grinded almost all of top tier germany air with the f4f bombing bases.

Escorting bombers is anything but a bad idea. Most people go brain dead and tunnel vision on the bomber, which means you get an easy kill most matches, and, the bomber gets to live and score points, earning it RP and SL, and you both have fun at Gaijin's expense, because there's no non-meta incentive to escort bombers specifically because WT is modeled around frustration, and anything we as players can do to DECREASE frustration is a net good.
It encourages teamwork, which is vital to winning games, and if more people were inclined to assist one another and get over the killsteal mentality, we'd all benefit in random matches, because we could know someone will help. Instead of shadowing you until you die, to bag your bandit, so *you* can't take it.

6 phoenixes at the start of the game makes the enemy team either go defensive at the start or go down in flames because they don't care about looking for missile contrails/ don't know how to evade
The only 2 I've done was the multirole and bringing a lower tier plane to a higher tier lobby, I do the multirole thing in my F4J to get repair cost money then I fight, and I uptiered myself in arcade to get god mode once or twice.
Counter point for Fighter Bomber:
If you want to go bomb bases, think yourself as a bomber and not a fighter, do not attempt any unnecessary engagements on the way to target
If you get caught by a group of enemy fighters and bombing mission seems unlikely, always ditch bombs first before taking an engagement, do not hold onto them thinking "I can bomb a base later" as holding onto those bombs is usually a death sentence
When you're a bomber you're a bomber, when you're a fighter you're a fighter, you're never both at the same time
I had to bring that one Chaika into that one game to try to kill a jet that one time. I got the kill but also I have not done it since, it was still cool for me though. I also had brought my jets for what it is worth so the first three or so minutes I was mostly useless.

Ok on the multi-role thing… first, yeah if you have a *good* fighter don’t waste your time, but on the way to the good fighters a lot of us have to spend time in planes like the F-4C that can’t just go in guns blazing. Also your example with the F-5 was painful to watch for two reasons… the F-5 is too slow and doesn’t carry enough ordinance to make this worth doing and if you’re going to do it you have to be able accurately hit a target in a very shallow angle at the highest speed you can achieve; if you have to literally dive bomb absolutely do not try this.
Grinding my way up to supersonic jets I would do this with the F-84 to abuse the air spawn. Start with the bombs and ground target belts, on the way in look for easy bomber head ons, drop on a base at shallow angle, and then vector in towards the center of the map to boom and zoom slow fighters and/or pop pillboxes.
Personally I’m just not good enough to reliably kill other planes, especially in the kinds of “not meta” planes I often have to use on the way up the tech tree… so I have to generate RP and SL any way I can.
Realistic Air just needs to change. The rules of air RB is consistent up until you get to the missiles, it stays pretty balanced even with rear aspects, but once you get into the all aspect missiles, the game mode just isn't interesting.
No idea how they can balance, but this tier needs a game mode that fits between simulator and RB. Being able to see targets from 5km away alone is pretty unrealistic, I think we are looking at the wrong problems by blaming overpowered jets, the main issue is how players use rules set since 1.0 rank to their advantage.
Gaijin could start by overhauling Air RB on things like.
-distance targets are acquired, it SHOULD be difficult to acquire targets, and having a giant red box from 6km away makes radars almost pointless. Turn off red boxes, or at the least make it 2km distance for the box.
-base AA being used more to scout enemies rather than just outright destroy them until they are within a close proximity. Maybe put a ping on the map like in ground RB when a target is hit but not destroyed. Even a new scouting system could be useful. (There are probably a lot of views on base AA, this is just mine)
-more weather conditions and more AI ground and air targets, reduce tickets for each AI destroyed. (The truth hurts, and the truth is if everyone farmed AI, we would all come out with more rewards. The current system pushes games to be essentially deathmatches, even with objectives 80% of games will end with team eliminations)
-less rewards for bombing bases and player kills (Give bombers more than just bases, and I have never seen one person go for a bridge)
I love this game and the community, I feel some of my viewpoints might resonate with a lot of players, but air RB just feels like a fast version of air AB right now and it really shows when you get into the 9.7 area and above.
Being real with you, just about the most efficient and consistent way I have found to grind for the F-16 is based bombing with the F4E. 9 times out of 10 I get at least one base, most of the time I'm getting two.
Likewise I would say about half the matches I get at least one kill as well and from a time standpoint it's incredibly efficient.
Using the F4E air-to-air is so inconsistent right now.
It's more effective for you right now because you are still too bad at air to air.
When you are good enought it's much faster to grind doing air to air only because you are consistent.
The question is do you want to get good as fast as possible or do you want to grind as fast as possible ? Taking bomb gives you less opportunity to improove at air to air wich is bad for you in the long run imo.

Using the F4J doing fighter-bombing i got the F16 in 2 days, without premium or talisman. It grinds really well if you know how to use it.
Yeah I disagree with 2 of topics he talked about in this game. First one is multi-role and second one is 6 phoenix. Idk which type of players this video is aimed at but i feel like by the way he explains these things is like were braindead players. First of multi-role is the best way to grind(usually bomb and start fighting). Second one is the 6 phoenix, it is a really good missile in the right hands. I feel like he is one of those players that’s like “oh my phoenixes are not hitting so he comes into a conclusion that it is a bad missile”. Just like I said if the F-14 players knows what he’s doing it is a really dangerous missile.
@@meatbutter3510 yeah most of the time tomcat shoot me down its from well placed Phoenixes, now I don't know how many I dodge but when a good tomcat player uses a Phoenix it can be hard to avoid, and yeah fighter bombing is a great way to grind.
Fun Fact; Irl The F-14 Can't Carry 6 Aim-54s It Has The Space But The Missiles Are So Heavy That Any Kind Of Turn In The F-14 Would Rip It Apart.
I at one point in time took 6 aim 54s only. Not even sidewinders. Min fuel and took off so fast and b line straight to enemy. Fire my 6 54s and rtb while dropping flares and would get 3-4 kills most games. Cause I didn’t have the extra weight of fuel and went as fast as possible at the enemy they didn’t even have time to even get to mach 1 for me to kill them.
If you are going to do a multi-role, have enough bombs for one base and have them set so all drop at once, that way if you have an aircraft behind you, you can drop bombs and start dogfighting them (I'm looking at you f5c mains)

If you are using the Phoenix properly 4is the most you would ever need I bring 4 aim54 2 aim7 and 2 aim 9 Phoenix is reserved for high alt high speed bandits that are closing and if they are low and slow which happens relatively often in high tier Jetsyou San get super easy kills cause the phoenix is doing Mach 3 and they aren’t even doing 700 kph

Bomber escorting works, you fly above the bomber and you dive on the fighter climbing towards the bomber
But do spend $60 on the F-5C…best financial mistake of my life!
