I actually went to a lot of therapy due to being critical of myself, having a ficade in day to day encounters making sure to never give my mother a "shamed face" up until my early 20s.
I broke down, couldn't wake up and keep up the fake persona, I just wanted to stay in my small apartment not having to proove myself to anyone.
Decided to go to therapy and through that I learned that despite how I act that I never actually have control over someone's perception of me. I can try to manipulate their perception through a ficade but I can't control it. It was when I realized that the only thing I can control fully is myself that I finally stopped trying to be someone else.
I finally found comfort in my own skin and no longer hated myself for not being what people wanted me to be.
    Gonna read the book Pewds.

Most people know the name “Dazai Osamu” from the Bungou Stray Dogs character but allow me to give a little context to the real author. Dazai Osamu is one of the big 3 classical japanese authors. His magnum opus and last book “No Longer Human” was based on Osamu’s life of constantly being shafted by the world to be quite honest. The book is almost a huge suicide note, and we see Osamu’s fall, as he would go on to drown himself after, being his first successful suicide attempt after many attempts beforehand.

" There's two sides of the coin in life. You're gonna be happy sometimes, and you're gonna be unhappy sometimes.
And you can just hope that you end up in one side more than the other.
Just because you endure a lot of pain and a lot of bad behaviour, and just because you're a good person and work really hard for the things you love, that doesn't necessarily mean happiness is some sort of reward or something that's owed to you. It doesn't work like that. That's just the state of life and the balance we all have to go through."

Dostoevsky can sometimes be boring and grim, but man, I enjoyed his works when I was younger, like The Idiot, Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov, and particularly The Possessed. He has a deep understanding of human psychology and the tragedies portrayed in his novels are in a way enjoyably comical. I find it ironic how I no longer read books and can barely watch anything longer than a sitcom.

I feel like these are the types of videos that you would like to be making, rather than what people want you to make. People are more likely to read manga and comics and are able to relate to it easier than most books. If you have seen his vlogs , he has talked about it before. I adore Stoner. I think about it so often. There's so much hope in the book. It could so easily have been nihilistic BS in the hands of a lesser writer but it's so moving. It's about love in all forms. A love that isn't dependent on happiness that even in the absence of happiness (and in the total lack of marital love) is fulfilling and keeps a fire burning. Love for his daughter, love for literature, and living life heroically. I can't emphasize how much I fucking love that book. I don't know where you're getting these recommendations from, Pewds, but your literature club episodes blow 90% of book channels out of the water. Solid books.

I'll admit, I first picked up No Longer Human because I was watching Bungo Stray Dogs and I wanted to learn more about the man behind Dazai's character and I think it was one of the best choices I've ever made. The story is written in such a unique and beautiful way compared to other books that I've read. The way that Dazai describes how Oba feels is so raw and unfiltered yet eloquent and meaningful. Plus, for me personally, there are some segments of the book and Oba's character that I can really relate to in a way that I've never seen done in any other works that I've read. Especially regarding anxiety, putting on a mask, and desperately trying to please those around him to fit in. Of course there are also many parts of his character that I can't relate to (and I'm thankful for that) such as depression and suicide, but it was eye opening to get a glimpse into how it may feel to have these conditions. It really gave me a new outlook on both myself internally, how I project myself externally, and how others may do the same. Overall it was an amazing read that really touched my soul (and crushed it at times lol). As soon as I finished it I knew it would be my new favorite book and honestly it's one of the best books that I've read in a hot minute. I could probably talk about this book for hours if the person listening just let me ramble and put all of my thoughts out there

NotATurkey dont know if you care but i really like to read books that can give you a better look in someones head. Even if it's really dark. A great writer can make it so dark but also so very realistic that sometimes it gets a bit too close. But im probably in the fase that goes like "im interested in the animal mind, human mind, how the earth works, how physics works, how the universe works." Its all just fascinating how everything works in this damn world. How this world is still functioning. I dont know but it's really fucking interesting.

Dostoevsky is a genius, his world is interesting. He's a prophet, he sees our world and our problems that was able to predict back in the mid-19th century. He sees people in depth, and reaches to the core. It helps to see others and yourself on an emotional level, and the problems of society, progress, freedom -on the spiritual and intellectual. This great writer was a profound psychologist. Read his books. They show such a depth of penetration into the human soul, which did not dream of modern psychotherapists.

Dude, it's just great that Pewds does this I don't know ... I was very touched by the story. I hope to do it again. Kisses from Panama.

The Crime and Punishment is a really good book. It was included in my literature classes, since I studied in Russia, and it still remaines to be one of my favourites. Dostoevsky is really good at describing psychological state through different things, such as landscapes and others. I think this is the reason why I enjoyed this book so much, because it truly gives you opportunity to feel mentally sick. I think it is the statement of the Dostoevsky's talent. Btw am I the only one who noticed that Crime and Punishment a bit reminds of Death Note?

i just finished reading stoner because of your recommendation, i got the book a couple of years ago but didn’t have a chance to read it until now. and you were so, so right in your analysis of it. there’s a constant sense of grief in the novel, due to his life and the fact that you know from the very beginning that it ends with his death. it’s so intimate, too, so personal, i was part of his joy and his pain all the way through, i felt what he felt with startling clarity. thank you for the suggestion, it was important for me to read it i think. and if anyone sees this comment, please read it as well - you won’t regret it.
