This really inspired me to start reading again. Literally haven’t read any books for leisure in years. I’ve only read books for my English and Literature classes :/
Hell yeah bro your making me wanna read again like old times staying up late in my room with my reading light on! Awesome video bro I really appreciate the effort you put into these videos.
After years of watching booktube and being one of those " I wish I still read like I did when I was younger" people, your enthusiasm for these books is so inspiring that I'm finally motivated enough to read my TBR books.
"i think it's something which i could love if i read it differently" something about that was beautiful. maybe bc it feels like the nature of human relationships and existence. we could all love each other if we saw each other differently and took the time to learn each other's stories.
I miss reading like this. I used to have an insatiable hunger for all literature, it would be the first thing on my mind before I’d open my eyes and the thing that’d keep me up at night. I guess now I have some friends, and a life, but I miss that hunger. “You” reminded me of it, and your video has fully inspired me to invest time into reading again, starting with this list.
How is it possible there’s no book from Dostoyevsky?! This series reminds me so much of him!! I’m sure Joe said something bout it. I can’t believe he hasn’t recommended any book of him. I’m shocked! Guess it’s time to rewatch YOU
He did actually recommend Crime and Punishment, but it was a quick scene, and it wasn't to a main character (it was how he got hired in season 2). I mostly remember it because that's actually a book I read and loved.
Oh my God, that was what I was wondering! Because I have it on my kindle and it is like almost the length of a thousand page novel lol! Thanks though :)
Seeing John read so long in these single sessions makes me wonder what his attention span is like when doing homework? I can do really well on studies, but attention span and focus is my biggest issue with studying and getting homework done. Thus, I end up being really inefficient and wasting lots of time despite getting pretty good grades. Anyone know how I can better this situation?
Also reading for pleasure and reading for homework is different so dont stress too much. Ultimately it's just a skill you learn because each person studies differently but there is a lot of apps specifically for focusing if you find electronics to be the problem
When you talk about how it remembers you about summer when you were a kid. I fell that, I lived that. Its something so beautiful you can't describe it.
As someone with ADHD, it is absolutely crazy that people can blow past a 800 page novel in like a day and a half. It took me about 2 weeks to get through Life Of Pi back in high school at around 400 pages. Idk, it's more that when you read with ADHD it is so easy to completely forget an entire page and have to read it all over again. I read probably slightly below average speed because you have to put effort into reading, it isn't just natural. Also, sooo easy to either get bored with a book or think you will read, but never pick it up again when 1/4 the way through. I have read full books before that just really captivated me to stick it through, but I probably read an entire book every 2-3 years. Audio books can be cool, but it is also easy to space out on those too
The reason I love the count of Monte Cristo is the format it's written in. It was written for a periodical so chapters couldn't be really long. At the same time Dumas had to advance the story in each chapter. So you get a lot of action within each chapter which makes it very hard to ever put down because something is always happening in the next few pages.
I feel it that you are tired bro. And you are changed to a mind soothing instrumental like personality. All your demonstration is real.Thank you. Most people don't know the feeling of reading and the spirit.
It's really safe for Joe to have classics as his favorites. They're classics for a reason. Many people like them. Just another hint that stalkers may seem as normal people
John, watching you read till the early mornings and looking like you're exhausted and perhaps going a little bit crazy, you've truly transformed into Joe, soo good job, man!
With the “Sleeping Beauties” book I think Joe’s character gravitates towards women because he’s always searching for the affirmation of his mother’s love that he didn’t get growing up and always wanted to please them .Lots of the women in that book were being abused or going through something that men had done to them .Joe believes he’s a savior and kills bad people (with the exception of girlfriends ) This book refers to how he might see the world probably 😂

You’re right, he’s either doing it as a joke or not realizing he keeps pronouncing it different each time because the sound “x” makes in English is always quite odd.
When I was studying Master and Margarita at school my Literature teacher gave me a really good tip: not to read this story by chapters but to follow each story line one at a time, so the story of Yeshua, then Woland, then Margarita etc... it worced so good, this book is still one of my favorites and i reread it ocasionally because it has so many layers.

When you were talking about reading as a kid, it took me BACK. I used to stay up late finishing books and be so tired the next morning but also be so excited to
start the next. I might not do something as extreme as this but definitely going to start reading again

I haven't properly read in years and this video has made me want to fall in love with reading books again, I don't know why I ever stopped it was so peaceful
the fact that he can sit down for five hours and just read. imagine how much easier college could be if i could do that.
I know, I can do maybe four hours in a day with a bunch of breaks, but that's my limit. Can't imagine doing 8 hours
As someone who can read for more thn 5 hrs I can assure you it does not make college life easier, you can never read text books or books you need to read for exams for this long 😒
@@kajalsharma6396 second that. The only reason I can sit down for more than 5 hours-even 8 in a day, is because I actually enjoy and am genuinely interested in the stuff I’m reading about. In that case, I don’t think I can do the same with my textbooks. With enough dedication perhaps
It’s a lot easier when it’s by choice, like most things lol
Reading books is not as hard as doing college work, cuz college is reading plus a good amount of comprehension
I’ve watched this 3 times now. There’s something so satisfying abt this that I can’t exactly put a finger on.

Guess it’s time to rewatch YOU
Yeah right? I was exactly wondering the same. How can he NOT put 'crime and punishment' in the list?
He did actually recommend Crime and Punishment, but it was a quick scene, and it wasn't to a main character (it was how he got hired in season 2). I mostly remember it because that's actually a book I read and loved.
Him getting so smily about being so excited about books filled my heart and is inspiring me to read again

Read the book Deep Work by Cal Newport. Also the channel Tomas Frank talks a lot about things like this
The way I handle mine is studying for 30 to 45 minutes at a time and then i take a small 10 minute break. It acts as a really nice refresher for me
Also keeping my phone on the other side of the room
Also reading for pleasure and reading for homework is different so dont stress too much. Ultimately it's just a skill you learn because each person studies differently but there is a lot of apps specifically for focusing if you find electronics to be the problem
Meditation might help.
Oh my god he showed his phone with 2:31 a.m and my my phone showed the same exact time. I thought i should share that info

When you talk about how it remembers you about summer when you were a kid. I fell that, I lived that. Its something so beautiful you can't describe it.
I’d say that Master and Margarita is hands down the best book I’ve ever read, such deep and philosophical writing, would very much recommend
it’s also impossible to read
Me: proud I finished a 600 page book in a week
Him: a 1000 page in like 2 days?!??
lmao ikr
Audiobooks...
Don't compare yourself with others, 600 pages in a week is awesome.
600 pages a week it's page asf
Me but one chapter in a month
Audio books can be cool, but it is also easy to space out on those too
this video singlehandedly made me go grab the book i’ve been trudging through for like 3 months. time to crush it
The reason I love the count of Monte Cristo is the format it's written in. It was written for a periodical so chapters couldn't be really long. At the same time Dumas had to advance the story in each chapter. So you get a lot of action within each chapter which makes it very hard to ever put down because something is always happening in the next few pages.
ok but when he started talking about his summers and childhood and how he binge-read books.. that's when i fell in love.
Did anyone else after watching “You” suddenly wanted to start reading books?
Just me.?
Ah to be young
You should go one better and read the books the series is based on! 😊
i hate your profile Picture. Just tried to wipe it off my screen lmao
Yes! And in a month and a half I've finished 20 books!
Same. The book store made me want to go to book stores. Now I’ve read 27 books in the last 5 months. Before that, I had read maybe two my entire life.
I feel it that you are tired bro. And you are changed to a mind soothing instrumental like personality. All your demonstration is real.Thank you. Most people don't know the feeling of reading and the spirit.
I am getting really inspired. The feeling when you finish a whole book in a few days is actually amazing, especially fancy thick books.
"That book 'did a number on me' " - He's becoming Joe! Confirmed
I was thinking the same!
That is amazing.
who is Joe?
It's really safe for Joe to have classics as his favorites. They're classics for a reason. Many people like them. Just another hint that stalkers may seem as normal people
John, watching you read till the early mornings and looking like you're exhausted and perhaps going a little bit crazy, you've truly transformed into Joe, soo good job, man!
“I’ll probably get to a couple hundred pages before I call it a night”
I struggle reading more than 10
There is nothing I love more than how his pronunciation of Don Quixote gets worse every single time he says it! 😂
When he talked about his summer reading experiences he warmed my heart.
When he finished each of the books
Don Quixote- 2:24
The Three Musketeers- 2:57
The Count of Monte Cristo- 3:44
The Master and Margarita- 5:23
Wuthering Heights- 6:58
thanks!
Is it just me or does this video make anyone else want to take on this 'challenge' themselves? lol
I feel the same
@@charliewizard Who knew altered states of consciousness could be so readily achieved through extended reading marathons? At 4:15 dude looks straight out of his head. Who needs drugs/alcohol when you got books? lol :X
I'm not a native English speaker but I think he's pronouncing Don Quixote, like multiple times.
It's a Spanish name. It's more like- Dohn(long o sound) Kee-Ho-Tay
Little Universe yep
You’re right, he’s either doing it as a joke or not realizing he keeps pronouncing it different each time because the sound “x” makes in English is always quite odd.
It’s pronounced “dohn-kee-hoh-teh”
Im spanish its pronounced dohn (o as is cot) key- gh (hard h) o (as in cot) teh
When I was studying Master and Margarita at school my Literature teacher gave me a really good tip: not to read this story by chapters but to follow each story line one at a time, so the story of Yeshua, then Woland, then Margarita etc... it worced so good, this book is still one of my favorites and i reread it ocasionally because it has so many layers.
you should create a goodread profile!! you're gonna love it!!!
