Happy to help!
Thank you!!!!!! First-year psychology student here who hasn't studied in 7 years. This is so much easier to understand than anything in my reading lists 😅
Aspiring 52 year old nursing student. I found your video extremely helpful. Thank you so much!

That’s great to hear!
It is much appreciated that you have provided this information. As a graduating senior about to attend graduate school, I felt humiliated by my inability to truly comprehend these concepts. This certainly helps.
I started creating videos because of that same feeling. I was thinking, “why can’t someone break down these concepts!”
Thank you for being a thoughtful and true teacher!
That is the best explanation I have ever seen. Thank you.
Helping my 3rd grader with a science fair project and this video definitely came in clutch.
Love it!
I take online classes and the videos provided are only audio. I guess I am a visual learner because I look for videos to explain. Yours are the best ones so far! They have helped me understand so much!!! Thank you!!

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🚗 Understanding Variables in Psychology
- Variables can change or vary within a study.
- Identifying independent and dependent variables is essential.
01:03 🧪 Defining Variables and Independent Variable
- Variables can include factors like mood, weather, age, and traffic.
- The independent variable, in this case, is the color of the car.
03:04 🌈 Making the Independent Variable Independent
- The independent variable must be isolated and separate from other variables.
- All other variables must remain constant and unchanged.
05:11 📊 Understanding the Dependent Variable
- The dependent variable is the data or results collected to see if the independent variable had an effect.
- In this case, the dependent variable is the speed of the car.
07:03 📈 Graphing Variables
- Independent variables are typically plotted on the x-axis, while dependent variables are on the y-axis in a graph.
- Graphs help visualize and analyze the relationship between variables.

In ths question which one is my independent variable ?" use the titanic data to fit a linear regression model between age versus the passenger class “?

You're welcome 😊
Fantastic
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video!!! Thank you so much :) but I have a question. How to you hold a mood constant?
Good question! This is why researchers rely on RANDOM ASSIGNMENT - each person in the study has an equal chance to be in the experimental group and control group. This ensures both groups are relatively the SAME. That is, you really can't control for mood, but if you use random assignment than the goal is you have equal number of people who are angry/sad/nervous/etc. in both groups. In a sense, you are cancelling out the moods. Does this make sense?
@@PsychExplainedahhh thank you so much!! Randomizing went straight over my head on that.. ooops again great video and thank you much again for responding!
Could you do one on reliability and validity?
Looking forward to it🙂

Somewhat psychology related but…
Studying “the effects of maternal stress on prenatal development”
The teacher in me can’t give you the answer. What is the IV and DV? What are some potential confounding variables?
@@PsychExplained oh gosh lol… I had to make a table of my articles I found and list the IV and DV… kept replaying your video… some are hard for me to pick out in some studies… ok here goes it. IV Maternal stress, DV prenatal dev. Other variables: preexisting health conditions: HTN, DM, obesity, finances, health literacy/disparities, taking Prenatal vit, prenatal check ups…. :/ still don’t feel confident
@@Tracy-ec3xv Wonderful!
@@PsychExplained really?!! I think what helped was you saying D for data and and D for dependent… thank you… gimme more lol!
