You remind me of myself. It is always great to have the proper tools to do the job correctly. Every time I buying a new boat I always pick up the official shop manual that the manufacturer put out. And normally at the beginning of the manuals it will tell you if there's any special tools that are needed. Also I was going to suggest you keep your propellers but you already got that covered. Whenever I'm doing preventive maintenance I keep the parts on board just in case. I have to say for the most part I have used my spare parts to help out other boaters that have broken down. Last Summer we were part of a huge raft up party for labor day and one of my friends was the only one who did not have his air conditioning on or even his generator what she only has one. I asked him what was wrong and he told me about the propeller. So I went down to my boat grabbed my tools and spare parts and within a half an hour I had his generator going once again. I do like your idea about the gasket making material. I never thought of that one. I will definitely pick some up tomorrow and put it with all the other boat stuff that I have picked up over the winter. Great video
Did the trial run today to see if the temps on both motors would drop at least (5) deg running @ 2400 RPM for more than 45 mins. To my surprise, the temp gauges never rose above 125 deg!!!!! Last season, and prior to the raw water circuit flush, both motors were running at 185 deg @ 2000 rpm. I cannot believe what a difference this relatively simple maintence step made for my old Perkins T6.354...pushed both motors hard and they never missed a beat. Wish I did this in seasons past!!!!!
Here's a dumb question. I've watched demos of barnacle buster, and they are always "forward" flushing the engine. Will running the liquid backwards like you did do anything to the oil cooler or heat exchanger??? I have a Volvo MD-30A that I'm about to do the same thing to!
@@FVCodzilla77 fair comment..... I was referring to a follow up video. Great to hear your results though. I'm definitely going to flush my Cat 3116s asap. Thanks!!
I'm just getting into boating. Have a smaller Bayliner 24' openbow with an I/O Mercruiser (hate that motor) 5.7. Now I know when winterizing I'm supposed to back flush- my question is: do you happen to know if it's a similar setup such as this?

So did it make a difference to your operating temps?
No one seems to ever "follow up" with the promised follow up with the results of the flush?
The answer to your question is right below this post.....I posted the follow-up results FIVE YEARS AGO....

pretty sure this is hydrochloric acid.. hardly non-toxic.. and how it bio-degrades nobody knows.. because it doesn't
