Thank you, sir. This helped a lot, but the hose at 1:04 was a bit tight to come off & tight going back on, but for anybody reading this, he's right, don't be afraid, just pop it right off.
Awesome video. I have 14 Chevy Cruze and this is the 3rd time it needs replacing so I figure I'm gonna have to learn how to since it's the biggest flaw a Cruze has. Small price for what's been a very reliable car for 6 years
Great video! Instead of using a wrench, I used a socket and ratchet; and I also had to use vice grips to hold open the spring-clamp that my 2014 had on the hose that connects to the right side of the thermostat.
Bro thank you so much! This looks like the same exact setup as my 2013 1.4L Sonic Turbo. All the videos I've found are of the 1.4L instead. I'm about to change it thanks to your video. Wish me luck! :D
Bruh... I just had to change mine, and this video made it really easy. Not quite as easy as yours, lol, but the steps are what mattered. I hope you keep doing vids, really nice job making it concise and easy for us idiots.
Thanks for the video. my 2014 cruze lts is throwing codes P0597 and P0598 hermostat heater control circuit open and low, wondering if replacing this would fix thse errors.
When you change the thermostat you have to drain all the coolant and if you don't, when you change the thermostat air gets in and when you fill the tank with coolant do you have to remove the air? How removed the air
I hated getting that very last bolt in the back. Took like an hour and half to get it out. Finishing the job in the morning. Not as easy as you think if your stuff is on really tight.
Exactly u can’t even see it first off & can’t even get a full swing on your wrench just took me 40 minutes now the clamp on the hose is giving me problems
The 1.4 Turbo (all Gen 1) on the Cruze has the thermostat on the passenger side, attached to the water pump. There's a water outlet on the driver's side and that one has the water temp sensor. Either housing can crack and when it does, you can get a very big coolant leak. The water pump seals can also fail and when that goes, you do get a leak but it's going to be slower. As far as the "butterfly thing" style clamp, there's a tool for that. I didn't have one when I changed my water pump. Just search for "flexible hose clamp pliers" and you'll see a number of places that sell them. The style with a cable is going to be easiest to work with as it'll get into places other pliers can't easily reach. The 1.8 engine is non-turbo and won't have the same layout. If your water pump is bad, that's a much more involved process. Also, the bolts are E10 or E12, not "standard" or "metric" sized, they're an external Torx type. Though the wrench used in this video will work, but it's not ideal.
@@rockytop4 thanks but actually found it buried on the driver side of engine, just followed coolant lines. Can't believe there's not one place to find the info for that on the 1.4 turbo, everything I found was on the 1.8
@@rockytop4ahhhh... I see. Luckily my issue was fixed after changing one from engine block but now I know if I run in to problem again. Appreciate the info
So when the dealership states that the thermostat housing is crack or has a large hole... it is all one unit? So I would simply be replacing what you are ahowing to fix it? I mean in negative temps this won’t be simple but at least the process is easy if I am understanding this.
I did everything as the video instructed. It works fine but the engine light is still on, what do i do? They checked the light and told me it was the thermostat. But now why didnt the engine light go off?
Anyone happen to know the part number on the bolts for the thermostat? One of mine is stripped and I'd like to replace it. It looks like a 11099521, but every parts dealer I can find says that doesn't fit the vehicle.
Alright good job! My only question is there anything extra I need to know once I am ready to pullout the thermostat? Does it come out fairly easy? Let me know. Thanks for posting the video!
hello, please tell me if that thermostat is the same one used by the cruze 1.4 ltz turbo 2011? If it is the same for both, can you tell me the part number of the thermostat? I need to buy it. Thank you and greetings from Argentina.
How did you know your sensor was bad? Was your temperature gauge getting high very shortly into your drive, then saying "AC off due to high engine Temp"? Mine will say that then after another minute the gauge will rise again to max and say "Engine overheated-Idle engine". But then it will return back to being less than halfway on the gauge.
Nothing worse than an instructional video purporting to 'help DYI'ers where EVERYTHING has been pre loosened/removed prior to the start of the 'instructional video' as well as you pre-fitting the new part as well .... way to go 👍 in helping 'no-experience' newbies
I had the same problem for 3 years. Kept changing thermostat every couple of months. Finally a few weeks ago a very loud alarm went off and then 'AC off due to high engine temp'. I had no antifreeze at all. Put it in the shop, and they said it was the water pump. Had new water pump put in and no more problem.
Janet Martin I was having a leak in my water pump/outlet and replaced it, received the ac off warning and replaced the coolant temp sensor, still got it so dealer said it would be thermostat. Good thing it’s only two things you have to trial and error for when you receive this warning! Easier on the wallet lol
@@garytgibson1666 My son replaced coolant temp sensor and that did not help. Finally just put it into shop. Works now with a new water pump. Thank you answering me.
My Chevy Cruze 2014 is showing a message that’s says “AC off due to high engine temperature” the fans then start going very fast. I took it to the mechanic and they reset the computer and it worked normal afterwards but after two weeks it did the same thing. Could this be the thermostat? The mechanic wants to change the thermostat but told me that if that doesn’t fix it then it would be the computer. Advice please!
Mariana Villafranco recently happened to me on my 2013 Cruze, took it for a diagnostic and my water pump was leaking and thermostat was getting stuck which wasn’t allowing coolant to flow. Fan was blowing on high speed, bought the replacement parts and just replaced it yesterday. My car seems to be working great again and the “AC engine off due...” hasn’t came on since
I have a 2014 Cruze and mine is doing the same thing so what parts did you replace? Did the temperature gauge go from cold to hot? Did any water splash on your windshield? please help
Victor Rojas I have a 2013 chevy cruze and I replaced the coolant temperature sensors (there are two) myself last weekend and had the local oil change business reset my codes and it was working fine. A few days later the "AC off due to high engine temp..." warning came back on so then I went to O'reilly's to see what the code was throwing this time and it was the thermostat. Going to replace that tomorrow and hopefully that solves the issues. If not its a computer issue that I am going to see if it was recalled.

what are torch specs for thermostat housing
is it need to change water coolant also, when we replace thermostat ?
What brand should i get?
Is there a specific way you refill the coolant?

I can’t get the vacuum line detached that you recommended to take off that runs directly above the thermostat.

That’s not necessarily the problem
Well come Thursday, or Friday i will be using this video to replace my thermostat.
There's no Rad Cap. How do you REFILL?!?!

Thanks for telling me about the bucket at the end got a driveway full of coolant 🤦🏽♂️
Did you have to drain the fluid?
How would you suggest removing the hose on the right side if it is not a screwable clamp. it is sort of a butterfly thing?
Prob the difference In engine? Ecotech /1.8 etc
The 2012 is on the driver side also

Yes. This will help. A cracked thermostat housing is why your car won’t get heat

Andrew Pinkham he said he didn’t. He says you can..... that’s not “forgetting”.
Followed this to a tee, didn't know I had to drain the coolant first.. put that main hose back on So fast
Is this the same for a diesel?
What code did you get p0597
Link to where you purchased your replacement?
Probably a local parts store, unless you don’t want to drive your car while waiting for delivery.
Hey did u have to bleed the system after replacing the thermostat? If so what did u do?
Byron Da Shirtmaker he tells you he didn’t and what he does instead.
There's a valve underneath. You open it to drain the system
Yep it's a big Philips head bleed screw on the radiator
does not show that you have to drain the coolant
Awesome thank you 😊 🙏 🙌 👏

thank you so much sir
Where do you live? I’d gladly pay you to fix mine for me.
How much would it cost to fix your thermostat housing
