    Thank you so much for this video! We have had so much trouble with the coolant system on our ‘14 Cruze LS 1.8L For the last 3-4 months. It started with a crack in the coolant overflow reservoir, then the thermostat (we replaced the thermostat only, which you will see was a bad idea) and the sensors, followed by the water pump, and only 2 weeks after replacing the water pump, the idiot panel told me “A/C off due to high engine temp” & the fan was going nuts. There is plenty of coolant in the new overflow reservoir, and with all the new parts, I feel there are only 2 more possibilities: the thermostat housing assembly/water inlet or the head gasket. And it is definitely leaking from the housing. Hubby & I are both mechanically inclined, but had a hard time finding a video that showed this process on our exact model of Cruze. Your video has saved the day! So I’m off to pickup the Dorman housing as well as the gasket and a new hose, and get this done so I can be back on the road. So thank you SO much!! Much Love for you! 💜💜💜

    Hey man , I just want to add in. From knowledge that was drilled into my brain over the years, when tightening something down such as that type of part you always want to use a cross pattern. Same concept as when changing a tire and bolting it on. Meaning tighten the top left Bolt move to the bottom right bolt tighten the top right bolt move to the bottom left bolt. I was told if you Failed to remember that step you may potentially have a leak in the future due to flexing temperature in the metal. Correct if I’m wrong !

    I am on my 3rd Thermostat because I have used 2 Dormans and they both failed. I am currently using an OEM part and it works. After the first Dorman thermostat, my fan would run constantly and so they sent me another one. Both worked for only a month. The one that's actually working is the AC Delco Thermostat. I also seen videos stating the same thing from Dorman. I agree Dorman products are well built but unfortunately they both failed on my 2011 Chevy Cruze.

    I actually have a hole in this assembly in my wife's 2014 LS and thought I needed to replace the water outlet only after watching a different video on a 2014 turbo Cruze (thought it'd have the same design). After receiving the part, I could see that it wasn't the same, though I did see that part number stamped on what must be a section of the thermostat housing assembly in the vehicle (housing and outlet, one assembly). I then watched your video and I think that confirmed it. Will run and grab the assembly tomorrow. Thanks for the help. Will watch your video again for the install.

      @@713jtmechanic8 Hi again. Ran into a problem and thought I'd run it by you. When I was trying to bolt the oil cooler pipe to the assembly, I of course was moving it around a little bit to try to get some access and suddenly the pipe was free moving. No sound, no sudden jarring, nothing, just free moving right to left and up and down. It felt like I successfully worked the pipe back into its seating, so I grabbed my borescope to see. It was in fact coupled with the larger pipe coming from the left side of the engine. So, is the pipe broken, do you know? Are the pipes supposed to be clamped or? I noticed in your video that you seemed to have rotated that pipe when showing the gasket. If I can't figure this out, will be a defeated tow to the garage tomorrow. Thanks...

      I just looked up the outlet pipe part and saw there's just an o-ring at the other end. Then I watched an engine oil cooler replacement video and saw the guy just pulled that pipe out, as I did accidentally. So, I should be good to go, right? Or should I pull it all the way out and check the o-ring?

    • @713jtmechanic8
      @713jtmechanic8  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi J! In my experience, if the outlet tube is slightly moved, there is a great chance the oring well not seal properly. Any oring does not have memory of its last position. Meaning oring will not reset to it’s original position. I highly recommend to replace oring.

Wait for engine temp to lower to outside weather temp. Good luck.

    What is the name of the metal tube that's attached to the thermostat housing. I replaced my thermostat today and had some trouble with the two bolts on that tube getting them on and off. After I got it all back together the tube is leaking under the manifold in front of the engine, the same metal tube, it's appears to be leaking on a join. Hard to see need to take a better look tomorrow. Any suggestions or help would be really appreciated I'm on a budget and need it fixed asap. I probably have to take off the manifold and front part of exhaust. Wondering if I need a seal or what? Great video.

    My mechanic changed this twice with a housing that is all aluminum made in Asia. It works for a month or so & then it leaks again, same spot as b4 with the original GM housing. I noticed the original one is made of plastic. I read that the aluminum one will last longer, so we went with it. My original GM plastic housing leaked & eventually cracked. I would think that if the part was defective it may happen once, but not twice. He charged me $310 for the work & it still leaks. Could it be leaking from another part near the housing & seem like it is leaking from the housing itself. Any suggestion?

      This aluminum Dorman thermostat housing I installed is working perfectly with no leaks. The only thing that comes to mind is if your mechanic did not replace the oil tube gasket and the throttle bony coolant hose. Those items connect to thermostat housing.

      You going to have to use your best judgement regarding the thermostat housing hose. The best advice I can offer, when hose is installed take a look at the hose to see if it has Kinks. If the hose looks like it has it's natural form, then you the hose is installed correct. Unfortunately, the hose does not have an indicator to help with installing hose correct. Hope this helps. I just had my thermostat housing unit replaced. Car was great for 2 weeks. Now it’s losing water with no visible leak. Seems I have to add water every other day. And yesterday it told me it was time to change my oil when I should have 1,500 miles left according to my last oil change. I seen there were 2 sensors on the thermostat housing unit-which one needs to be replaced? Or should it be both? (My mechanic is not returning my calls so your input would be helpful, thank you)

      @@heatherwilliams81 I am sorry you are not getting a response back from your mechanic. The thermostat housing unit came with both new sensors, seen on this video. Your replacement may have new sensors as well. If you don't see an external leak of coolant. Check the engine oil dip stick. This is to verify if coolant is not mixing with oil. However, I highly suggest to find a mechanic or if you are mechanically incline to pressure test the coolant system. This test will identify the coolant leak. Regarding your recommended oil change reminder not accurate. I will have to research that problem. I have not experienced that repair on a vehicle, yet. Good Luck Heather. Hope this helped.
