    Nice! I started my TOPS journey with CUT 4.0 (blackout edition). It's still my EDC wherever it is legal. Bought an operator 7 last year - probably my favorite blade and it will be stashed up for the Armageddon usage / passing on to future generations only. It's built like a tank.. a very beautiful tank..
    Finally bought the war bowie this year and it's another beautiful design. I am trying my best to limit myself to these, but already ended up buying an MSK for my sister and now thinking of gifting my nephew with either silent hero or backpacker bowie. TOPS is a brand that will grow on you very quickly!

      I agree. I always thought a lot of Tops knives looked like they were designed for Japanese Anime. But they do make good stuff and some of them are real gems. I love my Tops Silent Hero. It's my EDC right now. You just have to find the designs without stupid saws and weird angles like it came off of a Transformer.

    Nice collection. I have bought over 40 TOPS Knives over the last nine years or so.
    I have two Prather War Bowies because I bought one for Mumma Bear so we could take the Bowie Seminar at Prather’s Warrior School in Tucson. It’s worth the trip to Arizona.
    And the first time I saw Leo holding the Wild Pig Hunter was on a video of them at a SHOT Show. I had it pre-ordered before the video was finished. Don’t have a reason to carry a blade like that any more, but it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when I do.

    If Tops carried the micarta all the way to the guard , so your fore finger hit two sides of the scales and the thickness of the blade it would be more comfortable. Instead of your fore finger just ramming up to just the stock of the blade. I extended my scales on my rangers edge, it gives a wide guard. Brilliant dagger. The pig hunter is awesome. I did the same with green micarta and it made the guard nice and wide, especially for the thumb to ram against. The same with my war bowie, gives it a nice wide finger guard. @sheltermonkey6065 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love your collection overviews. I must admit I don't own a single TOPS. I guess I've dismissed them as too mall ninja-esque with their Rambo-inspired designs and bridge girder thickness bladestock. But it's apparent that they are branching out into more practical designs now.

    • @TheKnifeJunkie
      @TheKnifeJunkie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, some of their designs definitely appeal to my inner mall-ninja, but I would say it's worth trying out one of their more practical knives at a more practical stock thickness. They are tough, sharp and handsome, plus, if you don't like it you'll be able to sell it in a flash. For practical, I love the Tex Creek.

    • @sheltermonkey6065
      @sheltermonkey6065 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheKnifeJunkie I am tempted by the Tex Creek. One of the thing that bothers me about most of TOPS's other designs is the presence of the forward finger choil... a blight which seems to even have infected folding knives these days. The forward finger choil is brilliant on a little guy like the CRKT Pilar, but a drawback on knives with longer handle lengths.

I see they are coming out with contoured handles on their models now, which is an improvement, but I have a gorgeous L.T. Wright now, so I'm not really in the market for anything. @daveeverett9341 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheKnifeJunkie The Backbite is certainly a specialized blade, and although created from a Russian martial art, it is very well suited to Pakal and Sak Sak Filipino MA methods. Some might argue that.

      TheKnifeJunkie Indeed. You are absolutely 100% correct good sir. Unfortunately, in my current situation , it actually would be rather “financially irresponsible”. The TOPS Knives FELS-01 Felony Stop is the best blade there for a self-defence application. I even went and just looked at it ... $109 1095 HC steel HRC 56/57 not great edge retention but when you are cutting exclusively meat you do not need the retention you would if you are hacking into hickory or cardboard all day.
    I do need to ask why are all your knives so dull though? If you could answer that would be great ... I am not trying to sound like a douche I just wonder why you would not at min keep a decent working edge on your EDC blades!?
    It is not hard to do ... you can get a Hapstone V7 and some DMT stones for $300 which is the price of a decent blade.
    And yes you need to V7 for the blades you have ...

      Ray, with all due respect, I doubt your ability to ascertain the sharpness of my knives just from watching a medium resolution video. They are as sharp as I need them to be, I am not a fan of mirror polished blades but I am a fan of sharp ones. Thank you for your concern and sharpener suggestions though.

      Another one is "Taliban takedown" lol. some of the names and designs are a little cheesy but they do make awesome knives.

      I know, that's rich! It's like "this model penetrates the skin of a terrorist waaay better than any other knife... but just terrorists."

      @@TheKnifeJunkie Yeah I don't have this model but I've held it in my hands. It has great balance and would definitely make a great fighter. I'd like to see a smaller version of it one day as well. I have the Sky Marshall and it's a brick. But a beast nonetheless.

      Unfortunately no, it’s nothing that slick. I just can’t remember things in my old age and have to write on my hand. Like the movie Momento.

    I do not understand why people will buy knives made of 1095 for ANY other reason than it is the cheapest option out there. Rather than having a collection of 1095, WHY on earth not rather invest in a steel quality that keeps its edge and provides rust protection is beyond me 🤷‍♂️
