TOPS did the • - • "R" for two reasons
    1. If you have a TOPS Knife then Roger that 👍
    And
    2. • - • to prevent counterfeiting
Because if you can make that mark ...You can make your own knives .
I edc the TOPS Tom Brown Scout and M&P600

3x dot, 3x dash, 3x dot is SOS in Morse Code.
Fun fact: The first message sent via Morse Code across a telegraph is "What hath God wrought?"

Tops uses dit-dah-dit which is an R in Morse. That being said, I don’t know as they intended it to be Morse. I remember this discussion on a Wingman 115 video so you might check with him. I don’t remember what the final verdict was. I think he asked Tops.

The •-• on the TOPS Knives stands for the letter “R”. Which according to Mike Fuller, the creator of TOPS Knives, means “Roger” or “All is Well” , as it was when he was in the Special Forces.

    I'm a fan of Top's knives. I have 3 myself.
Tom Brown, Black Rhino and Woodsman.
I'm looking at the "C.U.T." (combat utility tool) for my next purchase.
What folks don't realize is that (at least with the Tom Brown) sharpening is absolutely free (you must pay to-and-from-shipping).
Most knives are easy to sharpen but the Tom Brown has 3 different edges, so it's better left to the pros at the factory for this.
Hedge Hog makes some sick leather sheaths too. They're not cheap, but are probably the very best money can buy.
I also have an ESEE 6, a buck 110 that's 44 years old (present from mom and dad), a host of Swiss Army knives (very useful!), and a few other decent quality knives.
All my bags have at very least a Leatherman multi-tool, and a medium or large knife packed away.
I am entertaining a Zombie Tools purchase in the near future as well.

Just picked up this in the black g10 version. I love the ergonomics of the blade. This knife is a great option if you want a fixed blade to carry daily. Very pleased.

It is probably one of the most robust knives in it's size category, there's a lot of fixed blade knives in this outdoors EDC grouping. It's definitely on the heavy duty end of the scale, which seems overkill for casual around town. I do like the Tops CAT series of knives, the ergonomics are nice to grab right out of the scabbard, the handle fits flat against the body comfortably and the build quality is unquestionably dependable. The clip does bother me some in use when carried horizonal front position mainly because of it's blade width size seems restrictive, so I normally would carry it strongside behind the hip. Though I think it's overall best option for me, riding on my backpack hip belt where I believe this blade will really be handy and not obtrusive in any way.

I actually like a lot of TOPS knife designs. But what I really hate about TOPS is that they always seem to use 1095 high carbon blade steel(low corrosion resistance/need to keep oiled) and then just cover the entire 1095 blade with a thick truck Bedliner spray, which I hate and can't stand. I wish that TOPS knives would finally use other less rust-prone blade steels like CPM 154 or CPM S35VN or better and when just stonewash their blades!!! For example, TOPS did make a folding knife called the Mini Scandi Folder MSF-4.0 Flipper that had tan micarta scales. The blade on the Mini Scandi Folder MSF 4.0 was a stonewashed drop point blade with a modified scandi grind made of very rust-resistant Bohler N690 steel, and the knife was actually done extremely well with really good quality control and fit&finish!!! I wish that TOPS would release pre-existing knife models with other blade steel options like the Little Bugger. If the Little Bugger was made in CPM 154 instead of it's standard 1095 I would but it in a heartbeat!!!

This is from the item description when I ordered it on Amazon
7.25" Overall. 3.25" coyote tan traction coated 1095 high carbon steel hunter's point blade with lashing holes/slot and thumb ridge. Full tang. Green canvas micarta handles. Lanyard hole. Coyote tan molded Kydex belt sheath with rotating clip.
Lashing holes/slots is what it says those cut outs are... Not sure what that is really unless somehow it's too lash out to a spear

    • @recycled3654
      @recycled3654 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I think the holes and dash cutouts are a Tops trademark logo, representing Morse Code symbolizing a "ROGER THAT".

This is a nice knife, for sure. I would like the G-10 version. I just think 90% of the TOPS knives are overhyped & over sized tacti-cool type of knives. Mall ninja specials. With premium price tags. I have the Air Wolfe. The thing it's giant. Borderline machete. No way you are putting that on your plate carrier or LBV.. and they claim it was designed for Air Crewmembers. It's like they specifically market their blades to WWF & world class body builder types. Who are taller & have bigger hands than the average person. They are usually very thick too. Which hinders cutting tasks, makes it extra difficult to sharpen as the years go on.. you are constantly fighting the increased thick angle of the saber grinds. All in all I don't recommend TOPS at all. However this C.A.T 200 is a solid knife. Again though.. have fun sharpening it & profiling the edge with that baked on cerakote (another fun thing to shave off while sharpening).

For the more budget minded, and more variety, I recommend the Mini-Tac series from Cold Steel. I own the Bowie Mini-Tac and scout carry it almost every day.
It is marketed as a neck knife, but it is the same size as the CAT.

Good call imho - I've carried the tanto mini tac appendix cross draw daily for about two years now and it's impressed me so much I bought another for backup in case they discontinue it
I use a kydex sheath that I made myself with 2 soft belt loops and keep it scalpel sharp on my homemade version of a wicked edge
I'm a union electrician and strip wire of every size with daily, sometimes all day, and use it for everything under the sun
      I recommend it

Solid video as usual. I like that, but I would prefer a different steel for an EDC as you note the potential rust issues around sweat. I keep my knives clean and they do not get abused, but a more durable steel would be my preference, even for an uptick in price.

It's a slim EDC fixed blade in 14C28N, comes with a decent sheath, has more blade than a typical necker, has excellent ergos, and is concealable. The only challenge with it is that the sheath has standoffs that can make it print.

The •-• on the TOPS Knives stands for the letter “R”. Which according to Mike Fuller, the creator of TOPS Knives, means “Roger” or “All is Well” , as it was when he was in the Special Forces.
