Really glad to see Unit Structures made the cut for 2023. I’m a big appreciator of Free Jazz/Avant-garde. Music like this serves as a pallet cleanser for me, a reset button of sorts. Oddly enough, its seeming lack of direction allows me to center myself, recharges and refocuses me. I return for a listen to other forms of Jazz with a fresh ear.

Thanks for your comment. The Classic Series is a perfect place to start. The previous Blue Note 80 Series is basically the same thing. Most people avoid the 75th Anniversary series they did, as they were digital and not the greatest. - Chris

I agree this is THE BEST value in Vinyl - just so you guys know - if it matters at all - I have the entire Blue Note Modern Jazz Series 1500, 4000, 4100, 4200, 4300 series on Digital with front and back album covers if you are interested in hearing any of it. My goal now is to get it all on Vinyl!
I think Empyrean should have a deluxe version - Tone Poet like presentation. I only say that because I didn’t get it as a Music Matters release and I won’t stop telling Felipe that. 😂
@@analogshop3384 They will not. Harley won't repeat Music Matters titles. It will be a Classic series if it ever happens, though who knows when? I've considered looking for vintage copies, but they're all expensive, and they probably go up in value every time BN announces a new list that doesn't include it.
Harley also made clear that Schizophrenia would get the TP treatment this year. I have a full Music Matters set so will be staying away from those. Most excited about Hutcherson, the bebop titles (what kind of sonic improvement - have some of the Navarro but on CD), and the avant garde titles. Will also get the Lonnie Smith because I’m sure it will smoke.
I hope Blue Note releases the complete Sonny Rollins "Live At The Village Vanguard", Hank Mobley "Dippin", Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers "Like Someone In Love" & Joe Henderson "Mode For Joe" on vinyl. I really like 2023 lineup. I'm looking forward to purchasing Jackie McLean "Bluesnik", Herbie Hanock "Empyean Isles", Johnny Coles "Little Johnny C" out of this lineup.
I hold out hopes that Live At The Golden Circle 1 and 2 will be released separately some time - after all, they've already done everything as part of that box set.
Overall it’s a great list, especially Empyean Isles. Great to get a Horace Parlan release too. I really wanted them to release Happenings and Search for a New Land but as there was no Lee Morgan I’m hoping that comes after this set 🤞

Ike Quebec was a great Tenor player, Blue and Sentimental is outstanding

I doubt that will every happen as a Tone Poet at least. You can get the box pretty cheap now and the McClean record is awesome as well. - Chris
