    This announcement has some of the greatest blue note sessions of all time. Mode For Joe, Night Dreamer, True Blue, Search for the New Land, Mosaic, No Room for Squares, Happenings, and Newk’s Time are all unreal. The only problem for me on this list is that Grant Green- Green Street is the only one I really love that I don’t alerady own. I’ll upgrade a few of my copies tho.

    i really love new perspective form Donald Byrd. I dont understand the negative comments. that's a mix of gospel and jazz. VERY original.

    That classic Lee Morgan album is worth buying just for the mesmerizing title track alone . One of the greatest jazz compositions in my humble opinion .

    Thanks for taking the time reviewing these great titles. Really looking forward to adding many of these to my collection. I tend to just to patiently wait to find nice OGs but many of these titles are both too hard to find and wildly expensive....

      Gotta admit I'm a CD gal. I have the AP SACD of "Blowin the Blues Away" and it sounds great but my pick would be "The Stylings of Silver". "No Room For Squares" is a great pick, but as a Jimmy Smith fanatic whose has most of his Blue Note catalog, "Midnight Special" is one of my all time favorite albums of his but I'd rather see "At the Organ Vol 1" (BLP 1551) and "At the Organ Volume 2" (Blue Note 1552) and the "A Date With Jimmy Smith" "At the Club Baby Grand" Vols 1&2 because they show how DYNAMIC Jimmy was as a ppl player and how no one was doing what he did on organ. I think "Open House", "Plain Talk" and "Cool Blues" would be great for the Classic series too. What are your guys favorites for Blue Note being made today? Are you all hip to Johnathan Blake, Joel Ross and the women's super group Artemis?

    some great titles.... these reissues should sound better than the earlier Blue Notes in my opinion.. I have the 1957 reissue of SF the New Land mastered by Bernie (Blue Note 75 anniversary) and its really good---it will be interesting to see how the coming one matches up.
    . get out your credit cards folks!!!!

  • @drunkenskelator

    Thanks for the heads up and info guys! Of the first two I have an original Horace Silver and a 77 re-issue of the Jimmy Smith title so a bit on the fence with those two.

  • @JarrettMehldau
    @JarrettMehldau ปีที่แล้ว

    Newk's Time is awesome. The recording has had some issues regarding the sound quality, but performance wise I might even prefer it to "Saxophone Collusses". It combines the swingiest pianist (Wynton Kelly), with the rhythmically most potent soloist (Sonny Rollins), add Doug Watkins on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, who is just cooking up a storm - a top 5 hardbop album of all time imo.

    For sure this batch is great, but am I the only one out here wishing Blue Note would start to show us some Three Sounds? Don't get me wrong, I love Grant Green and all the other cats, but after multiple releases by some of those guys in these series, its becoming an issue for me that we aren't seeing any Three Sounds. I think if they did some of the later works, like soul symphony or elegant soul, people would be all over them...and these are titles that are almost impossible to find in good condition. If you look at the 4000 series it now seems embarrassing that the three sounds are really the only major artist on Blue Note that haven't had any attention shown them, and I for one find that really disappointing.

    • @xentakis

    • @edwardevans652
      @edwardevans652 ปีที่แล้ว

      @dakotasuite I second that motion. Been jonesing for “Blue Hour” for too long and we get more Grant Green. Don’t get me wrong, I love so many of his Blue Note releases, Universal Music should pump the breaks on GG and show love to some other artists and let them shine.

    • @analog_archive
      @analog_archive ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that Blue Hour should see some type of TP/Classic Series treatment, but unfortunately, there isn’t much demand for the 3 Sounds records and of the artists in the 4000 series, their albums are probably the least expensive to find. I love Grant Green and will say that his albums need to be reissued because most are not available in any form and 60s/70s pressings are very expensive, scarce, and a lot of people want them. Green Street is arguably the rarest Grant Green Blue Note. They tried in 2022 to market to a larger audience with their title selection for the Classic Series and many did not sell well at all, that might be why there aren’t 3 Sounds or other artists that haven’t been featured much at all.

    • @JazzBums
      @JazzBums  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great point. There were tons of releases that didn't seem to sell well in the previous drops. I appreciate them releasing less popular titles as well, because some of them are amazing. The other question this brings up is, did they just press way to many of them? - Chris

  • @DanielHog13
    @DanielHog13 ปีที่แล้ว

    A fantastic BN CV schedule, kudos 👏 . I own all of these in MM or AP form sans MD Vol. 2. Don't own BN75 titles.
    I'll add this potentially thrilling prediction.... BN's next TP full schedule release will be equally impressive & exciting.

    They need to start selling tip on jackets on the side this new release of classic series is the bomb

    • @JazzBums
      @JazzBums  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the question is , would it be worth an extra $10 or not? The Classic Series with nice jackets would definitely compare favorably to something like the new Third Man series quality-wise. I don't have my copies yet, but the Classic series is mastered by Kevin, who automatically gets a leg up over more unknown mastering engineers. Is Optimal better than Third Man for pressing records? I don't know the answer to that. Seems both have had their issues over the years, and they both have also delivered amazing records. - Chris

    This is by far the best record collecting channel you can find, these guys are great, they give vast and useful information on labels, pressings, the artists involved...everything you need to know about the records. Even if you're not a jazz fan you will enjoy the content. I really appreciate that they are not caught in the lame "VC" drama you see on other channels, they only talk about what you are looking for which is records. Thank you guys, I just wish we could have content on other genres too... (Is there space for Rock Bums?). Thank you guys!

    That bud powell is fantastic.. early blue note i really could care less about rudy van gelder i mean of course his work is good.. but dint forget about what came before.. one thing i cannot stand. Non musicians especially. Who dont appreciate the absolute wealth of bop and pre bop..ok fine you need to deal with imperfections in sound.. but hey we are adults . buy it is bud powell.. same with the cliff brown memorial.. blind buy..
