I remember when the capabilities maxed out at $300. Personally I’m only unlocking $75.86 out these sticks. But that’s nuts that they’ve been able to bump there potential up to $400 plus tax.

I usually get the $400 capability at a garage sale for a few bucks when the previous owner is done with it.

I remember the same conversation when I was a pee wee but it was all about the stressing the point of a $40 Koho.
My playing days have been over for years. I noticed this technique while watching Bedard highlights. I really like it.

I just started playing this past year (alone mostly) but this is just what felt natural to me without ever having anyone showing me.
Started playing about 1 year ago and its crazy the improvement i made from not nowing anything to now i'm playing for fun! And i'm having a blast
This looks a lot like the technique Easton guys promoted along with the E28 curve

I was going to say the same as everyone . I think most have been doing this for decades. It's just more natural then starting at the heel.
Ya I've been doing this "new technique" for years now. My dad showed me this back in the early 2000s and this is how I teach some new guys who are wanting to know how to get a better shot.
yeah, its a snap shot.. lol. and any kid who needs a 400 dollar stick to unlock "400 dollar stick capabilities" doesn't understand the mechanics involved
@@waynegretzky1535I think it’s just an expression to get the kids excited. It’s not a snap shot. It’s a toe drag release. See the release of Matthews or Bedard. It creates more torque on the shot and also is deceptive to goalies trying to read the shooter’s blade before the release.
I'm a new player (30s), and I started doing this on my own because it felt better and made more sense. More velocity, quicker release. For me, at least, it seems to be a little harder to be accurate, but I'm sure that'll come with experience.

it comes naturally with those new sticks. backthen it was impossible with wooden ones

Oh, I don’t dare use my $400 stick. It sits on the mantle and I dust it off every once in a while and put it right back. I use my 1970s wood Koho for actual gameplay.

Hmmm... Maybe we go back to the old $ sticks? I recall enjoying those games as much (maybe more). ;) j/k , I'm just learning more about ice hockey all these years later having played pretty much every other sport. Lacrosse and golf were my mains. Golf has a lot in common with hockey when you think of spin and where to hit on the "face" to get specific flight.

I feel like I can still rip wristers the "old" way but I can shoot this "new" way too, it just feels more like a snap shot. Guess it is good to be able to shoot in a wide variety of ways?

This is how I naturally shot as a kid. It's more of a combination between a snap shot and wrist shot. The release is much quicker and you are able to change up the angle at any point during the shot.
this is why intermediate sticks are the best, you get the $400 flex for $80, they just break more
This technique is also done with wild curves. If ur rocking a very light curve the old way is still the better way
I started playing with a straight stick back in the 1970's. Keep practicing
Depends where you are on the ice and where you want to put the puck! You have more of a target with the puck on the toe, you can shoot more to the right from the right side of the ice!
He's just teaching you a "Snap" shot. Quicker, but with significantly less power in the shot. It's been around forever. (At least since the early 1960s) A wrist shot, when properly executed, can be a lot "heavier" and takes more goalie effort to stop it. Even if the goalie gets a piece of it, it can still go in. Plus the puck can dip on a long shot due to the increased spin on it. You can execute a wrist shot quickly or more deliberately depending upon the circumstances.
So you invented the snap shot? I guess Sakic had a long loud sweep technique? most kids dont have the wrist strength or the accuracy a wrist shot provides

The key is to treat your stick like a gun
Keep it polished and in great shape
Play wing and ALWAYS lose any face off your asked to take - keep the wear on your stick for shooting purposes
Ever see how often the losing team wins 60% of the faceoofs ( too ooften)
So if I’m using a $200 stick do I start mid blade and bring it back?
That's exactly right, it's linear up to $400; anything more, and you have to start flexing the sick with the toe behind the puck to get full power Lol.

Super common for inline players to naturally do this. Its 10x the friction than ice so all friction matters in inline.

i use 110 flex..

Ahhh….as an old guy (late 30s) I use the old technique and the young pups coming in to men’s league with their “new” technique ask me why I don’t shoot off the toe…now I know lol…
But in my day it was wood blade on a composite shaft and your toes would deteriorate over time so the heel was the stiffest part of the blade reliably, the new tech changed the game.

This new release has been around since 1985
I mean it’s not really new, I’ve been doing this since the mid 00s. The coaches at Exeter showed us this in like 2003-4 when we got the first one piece sticks from Easton

These new sticks are amazing! if you have a new one every game and someone else is paying for it haha otherwise they are whipped out and useless after a few games!
I didn't make the nhl because I had a 60 dollars and only using worth $3.50 capability of it. I wish I had known this sooner

I like the old technique. I am pretty sure you have more power behind it. I used to ripe them.
I think its debatable which has more power. I never sweep shot anymore because I find it's harder for goalies to react to such a quick release the sweep gives away your intentions.
Can somebody help me. So im 12 yrs old player and when im shooting from pad (not at ice) my shot is very fast and goes where i want to, but at ice its so slow and not going where i try to
More resistance from the mat the puck will slide more on ice. Hence the shots being lower and having less impact. Use the flex in your stick practice tow drag release and pull back slapshots
after 10 years its gonna be 40000$ capabilities
this is just a snap shot without a tap, staying connected to the puck

Is hockey slow in these kind of stuff or what is going on here? My sport " floorball " you shoot wristers like this all the time.. for prob 10-15 years lol.
same koncept with flex etc etc as hockey its just not on ice. North Americans dont know what floorball is i guess but in EU its big sport.

I hate that they changed the shooting technique it’s worse toe to heel back to toe is one extra move which is slower release which is worse

New? I've been doing this since I was a child (I'm fifty, now). Much quicker release IMO. If only I could figure out how to skate quicker, I'd have been a star;)

I've used this shot for about 20 years now. It may be that in NA things are done differently as to how juniors are taught certain things, but in Finland every kid who plays hockey practically live in outside rinks. That's where you really improve individual skills, way beyond the very limited time you have in practice.
You can obviously question me, but just ask any of the best shooters in the game, and they'll say they've shot thousands and thousands of pucks in the outside rink & the backyard. I ask you to trust them.
I ain't spending $400 on a stick. It must be nice to have rich parents.

No a snap shot doesn’t stay in contact the blade the entire “sweep” you back off and inch or two let the puck slide forward and continue to follow through which is why you hear a crack instead of a sweep like with a wrist shot
@@exploited8779 When I take a snap shot my blade backs off a half foot.
I think of this as a snapshot. I also have to disagree with some other comments saying a snapshot is one where your stick breaks contact with the puck. I was never taught that. I think snapshots are just the most widely used shot now because of release speed.

If you’re not scoring 50 a season. Stick to wood sticks. Your parents wallets will thank you.
On the plus side. A nice hack on a $400 stick with your Sher-wood will bust that shit up and piss off that player to no end.

Check out Scott Bjugstad's youtube shooting video. Also, Tim Turk's. All comments about "not new" are accurate.... this toe technique, as Scott, Tim, Sean, and many pros like Crosby, Matthew's and McDavid demonstrate, generates far more power.
