for cheap cutting discs, I do mean cheap, I make my own, here is how:
      1. Get a Little Debbie snack cake box (or something similar)
      2. A craft 1" circle punch
      3. 3/32" hollow punch
Cut about 1.5" strips from the empty box.
Put the strips in the craft punch. You can make about 20-30 in a couple of minutes.
Take the 3/32" hollow punch and put the center mounting hole in the paper disc. This is the mandrel mounting hole, and you are all set.
This friction cuts through PLA and styrene as is. This was with the $7 rotary tool from Harbor Freight.
It is cheaper than regular cutting discs, and you can use the hole punch for making other paper-based items, along with the hollow punch set, they are useful for a variety of materials.

I got started on miniatures with Necromunda, and one of the most fun parts of terrain building was being able to look at weird bits of junk, broken stuff, ordinary household items and old, busted toys and turn them into stuff that looked amazing with relatively little effort. It's always fun to see that tradition carrying on.

Great project! Through the first half I kept thinking of how I'd approach this, and I'd use my benchtop band saw. I can't recommend a small band saw enough. It makes short work of MDF and HDF for bases, and would be my go to tool for cutting through those water guns. (In fact, I have used it to cut through water guns for my own projects before.) If you don't have a little band saw, you can get one for about $100 USD (give or take). It's an essential tool for my terrain projects. I use it about as often as I use my Proxxon hot wire table. I swear by that thing.

Yeah, these turned out really good. I wasn't sure about the holes left by cutting off the handles, but they work in the finished product.

Excellent stuff as usual. I think you and Midwinter Minis posted a the same time! His was pretty neat buuuuut gotta give it to you for sticking to ONLY water guns! Although I think there would be nothing wrong with making platforms and railings and adding some cool hoses and stuff on the things you built. BUCK ROGERS BUILD!! :D

Ok I TOTALLY misunderstood the challenge. I thought it meant "paint using the waterpistols" and figured "oh wow that's a trainwreck waiting to happen".
This makes WAY more sense ROFL
Awesome stuff! Love how it turned out!

At 7:40 with the "Buck Rodgers" architecture, I thought: "I wish Black Magic Jeremy would cross over with model-master Boyd from TrekWorks!" Every modeler needs to see his walkthroughs and tutorials... there would be so much to learn if worlds collided!

Definitely nailed the win. As Guy notes in his own video, he disqualified himself for using other materials. But I like your 3d finish to the terrain over Guy's Roman freize type finish. First time I have seen your work. You do well in keeping the vid going and interesting. More power to you.

So, on that 1950s piece (which I thought looked great) a fun way to turn any organic shape to grimdark is black + green (like bio, glowy green) accents. Also spikes at the top of organic shapes instantly give a sinister look to otherwise retro-looking structures.

i've been looking for stuff to make eldar style terrain and the curves on those water guns are perfect. instead of making them worn and grimdark I'd just make them look nice and shiny. thank you for the accidental inspiration!

You became a disused factory, factory there! I find rotary tools tricky [but not impossible] for this 'chop-shop' stuff, awkward corners, nooks etc. I use a 'junior' hacksaw as we call it in the UK for this purpose. Make sure the watergun, old plastic truck/plane or casing from unwanted CD players etc is secured well. A small tabletop vice is ideal, maybe some soft packing to avoid damage to the part, but once its held firm, hacksaws of all sizes are ideal. A bit of clean up with a utility blade and voila!

That unfinished one that looks like it came from the 50s would look awesome to have 3 lasers firing from them into the sky, like in the climax of every super hero movie

right?! i'd love to see that with like, some LED lighting effects, maybe a ladder support of the tall tubes as they extend several feet tall, and the LED chaser lights operate.

Great build! They would look fantastic if filmed with a dodgy camera, to get an effect like the ones taken by the 'probot' of the Rebel power generators on Hoth in 'The Empire Strikes Back'. I'm looking at those models, and my 'exposed to over 50 years of science fiction' brain is yelling: 'Abandoned terraforming station!' I'm going to make some to display a diecast 'Starbug' from 'Red Dwarf' with.

Great video and I watched both your's and Guy's video. You are the clear winner, even if Guy didn't cheat, which he did (and admitted) with the Pegasus terrain and several other bits that were not from the water guns. You stuck to your...guns...and knocked it out of the park. I also love the cross pollination of channels, using Luke's ground cover and 'sculptamoldl like' product. Regarding the 'Buck Rodgers' piece, I think a soft plasma glow on the central oval parts would make a cool power generator. I'll be looking for what you come up with in a later video, even if it takes a year or so to bring it back out. Cheers
