The sheer balls of using 3x speed in an 8 sim house in the sims 1. Kevin truly is a strategic genius.
ikr? And he wonders why it's so damn hard. In these old sims games I was paused practically half the time I was playing, carefully coordinating and queueing up stuff for different family members to do to ensure as little wasted time as possible. It's a habit I still have now for modern sims if the family is over like2-3 people I NEVER play continuously in live mode, nevermind 3x. 3x is for sleep and work lol

I know, he kept complaining about his sims missing work. Maybe if he slowed down time he wouldn't blast through the hour that the sims are given to make it to the carpool?
I love how Kevin's clear favourite was Ralph. He definitely has a type, and that type is "Old Man Does Crime."

The fact Kevin thought they wouldn't let kids die in a game of that era but doesn't realize this is the ONLY Sims game where kids died of hunger....and the screams they let out always gave me the chills
Children can die in every sims game. Sims 2 causes corruption though
He's also either forgeting about or hasn't played Fallout 1 & 2 as there was an attribute called "Childkiller" which you'd unlock after killing a few kids. Not that I've ever unlocked this mind you.

Very random challenge idea: Make a household of 4 identical sims, each of them is supposed to have their own job and relations but because they look identical you're constantly at risk of making them learn skills for each other's jobs or stealing away each other's relationships. For an extra challenge, you could only allow one of them to leave the house at a time to fool the neighbours into thinking it's just one guy multitasking 4 jobs and 4 relationships.

@@YYesImCrazYYI dunno I have chronic mental and physical health problems and I still don't know if I've ever sobbed as wildly as a Sims 1 sim with low needs.
The key to Sims 1 friendship is endless talking about interests, with some compliments sprinkled in. Also, the maid is the worst! She won’t clean dishes unless you have a dishwasher
Added on to that, Kevin didn't even have a kitchen sink. He started with no sink, no fire alarm, and ended with no sink, no oven, no fire alarm and a meth lab. Truly brilliant kitchen design.

Basements were added in sims 2. You can make a two story house however

My favorite thing is that one characters name is 'Nerd', yet Jessica seems like the most abnormal name in this household. Kevin is a household naming genius.

Sims 1 always gave me wild expectations about real life when I was a kid. Because of this game, I thought you could build walls on property you own, and call it a house. And then add floors at a later date. Even if you already have counters and appliances set up in the "home." 😂
Edit: what I mean to say is, boy was my mind blown away when my mom told me you couldn't live in a house without proper foundation.
This game made me think you had to buy the cheapest things first, so you could fully furnish the house, then get the nice stuff later. Kid me literally thought I had to buy paper plates and then upgrade to “real” plates later. 🤷🏻♀️🤣
Thank goodness for building codes or we’d all be living like sims. 😂

Sims 1 is the most difficult to have a full household in, this was just a mess. Congrats to Dennis and Rose for getting out of there! Hopefully military school isn't as stressful as this household was, lol
The boring routine of military school probably allowed them to thrive.
Always planning out the maximum amount of actions and then getting fouled up by 2 of them walking into each other. Whole plan out the window.
None of the cheapest beds in the other sims games have ever captured the sheer discomfort that comes with those brown, lumpy sims 1 beds. They are the perfect complement to Kevin's inevitably making a sims barracks in every challenge

One tip: Beautify the place so you’ll always have 1 bar full. And using pictures helps to not take up floor space. It helps their mood lol.

it’s been ages since I played Sims 1 but, I think the game has an alarm clock to help you not miss work.
8:15 The maid needs a sink or dishwasher to clean the plates. The only sinks you have are in the bathrooms that are constantly occupied by people showering and using the toilets.
This is why you seperate the toilet into a small room, and try not to put it in the bathroom. Having the toilet in the bathroom is very inefficient. Even IRL this is more and more avoided these days in new buildings.
And this is why you need a sink in the kitchen.

When I first got the Sims I only had the game itself and Livin' Large. Much later I bought the complete collection that had all the expansion packs. I think one of the packs (probably Hot Date) makes it MUCH harder to make friends/get them married. etc. It adds a lot more options for interactions but also makes them much more particular about who they'll befriend. Having others watch your Sim play guitar and have people get in the hot tub together increase the relationship points but neither technique works as well after the additional expansion packs.
You either die a hero or live long enough to piss yourself!

When I have played games similar; irony is when you have a Family of that size, have one becomes the maid, and one becomes the cook, and the other members of the house either go to school or go to work. Also, the one that is the cook can also double as the maid. This will save you money.
To Kevin: You have been an inspiration to me, and I’m just now realizing it. You taught me through your videos that being awkward is nothing to shame yourself about, and that you can always use it to your advantage. So thank you
Your longform Sims content is always super fun, especially with the older games! Not that I don't love Jim Pickens, our Dear Leader.
I have played The Sims games since it came out over 20 years ago when I was in middle school. It took me a bit of playing with just one Sim, then moved to one of the other households with like 3-4 people. It got to a point I could do 8 people households, with or without pets, on 3 speed. By the time Sims 2 and Sims 3 came out, 8 member households on 3 speed flowed naturally (though, I do use the free will setting, which is very helpful, until they start doing dumb crap and I have to fix it LOL). I have tried Sims 4 but I really don't like it, so I only play Sims 3. I commend you for jumping right in to an 8 member household when 1 Sim is a challenge for you. My husband will not touch my Sims 3. He said he could never keep his Sim alive for a day in Sims 1 that he gave up on Sims all together hahaha.
