10:45 The reason the platforms are so long, are to futureproof - Worcestershire Council wants some of the longer distance XC services to stop at parkway eventually, and in fact, during engineering works, they have before, including the HSTs and 10 car voyagers. Great video as always Nick!
I can think of a few more points to points, such as Ashford to Ashford, Mill Hill to Mill Hill and as you said University to University as well as Stratford to Stratford.
Lucky for You, Morton (Derbyshire, on Erewash Valley line) no longer has station. But You still can go through this disused station via Norhern/EMR service from Nottingham to Sheffield
You should do Stratford-upon-Avon to Stratford (London), but without going through central London. (Doable by either arriving on Overground from Willesden Junction or by Greater Anglia from Bishop’s Stortford)
Just my guess: I recon the reason the platforms at Worcestershire parkway are so long because the land for the station and the construction of longer platforms was probably quite inexpensive, it is likely a future proofing method in case the area saw big development and cross-country wanted to call longer trains at the platform. I would love to hear an official reason though if someone has one.
Well done! I thought we must be in for quite a ride seeing the runtime of the video. With XC I always find it useful having the unreserved coaches to hand: 4 car - Unreserved carriage is F 5 car - Unreserved carriages are B and F 8 car - Unreserved carriages are F and L 9 car - Unreserved carriages are B, F and L 10 car - Unreserved carriages are B, F, H and L
There are in fact *three* stations in the UK named "University", which would make for a particularly lengthy point to point to point (including a ferry).
Charing Cross Glasgow to Charing Cross London, without using the East or West Coast Mainlines south of Carlisle and Berwick Upon Tweed. Could pave the way for some spectacular route planning!
A point through point to point suggestion... St Pancras Midland Mainline, then through St Pancras Thameslink, then SouthEastern High Speed to St Pancras HighSpeed platforms. It could also count as a Pointless Journey. Of course if you want to really push the boat out (by not using a boat!) you could take the International train through the Tunnel. Brian.
For something more epic, do Prestonpans (Scotland) to Preston (Lancs) to Preston Park (Brighton). Funnily enough, I've done a point-to-point by accident last Saturday, as I've went past Mill Hill Broadway on my way to St Albans and just before returning home from London, I ended up going through Mill Hill (Blackburn) just before my local station. That reminds me, you should also try Mill Hill (Blackburn) to Mills Hill (Greater Manchester) to Mill Hill Broadway (North London).
Why are there so many moreton stations? Great video Nick! Will miss the old merseyrail PEPs . Have a pointless journey suggestion too, Wigan wall gate to Wigan North western . Really like these videos 👍
Video Idea! Pointless Journeys: Wimbledon to South Wimbledon Tube by rail only. (You would have to either go to Waterloo and into central london or via southern from Clapham Junction to Balham taking prob an hour either way for a station 5 bus stops away
Great video! Really enjoyed watching this. I went from the South west to Liverpool not that long ago. I went from Whitchurch Hampshire to Liverpool Lime Street via London
Honeybourne is my local station and I transfer at Worcestershire Parkway quite regularly. They're building 10,000 houses nearby so in the next 10 years it's going to be a much busier station, so my guess is they made the station really long to futureproof it and allow it to accommodate more train carriages.
Moreton in Merseyside my home town I live literally a 3 minute walk away from the station, used to travel a lot on Merseyrail when I was in my teens (before I owned a car) and my dad worked as a train guard for Merseyrail back in the 90s so have very fond memories of the 507s and 508s!
I feel like one of the only Americans to actually have been to Moreton in Marsh. It was a town in the beautiful British countryside that had a train station and that’s why I went
I was keeping an eye out on your twitter to see if you were doing it as moreton in marsh is my local station and I was hoping to come and see you but never saw anything and missed you
I went from Gillingham to Gillingham from Waterloo, not for the fun of it, but just because I wanted a Gillingham, one simple little Gillingham, on the Medway, which cracked the lady up with laughter behind the counter in the library in Gillingham, Wilts, when I said I was lost and was looking for the sea.
Hi, Nick. I suggest Louvres (RER D) to Louvre Rivoli and then Palais Royal Musee du Louvre. Louvres station on RER D outside of Paris to the north is where I accidentally went to when I first visited Paris. And of course, there are two Metro stations located next to the famous Louvre Museum in the centre of Paris. You can combine RER A, C and D, suburban lines H and J, Trams 1, 3b, 5, 8, 11 and many Metro lines along the way. Also, Gambetta (Paris Metro) to Gambetta (Lille Metro). And it will be great if you could collab with Riku Fryderyk when you're filming in London.
If you want to go properly international, how about Kings Cross Underground in London to Kings Cross underground on the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line of the Sydney Trains network? Probably the longest possible P2P although some other form of transport could be needed to cover the wet bits. Brian.
Going from Birmingham to Weymouth via Worcester last year meant going via Moreton In March and Moreton Dorset - meaning it's a point to point that I've technically done!
If you’re ever around Gloucestershire on a weekend possible point to point (slightly pointless journey) would be stonehouse to cam and Dursley. The two are 10 minutes by road (I can’t drive) but your route would be. Railway platforms always used to be really long, Nick - it's only been over the past 40 years that BR and its successors have been cutting them back and (often) leaving an outer end to return to nature...! If I'm not mistaken, they cater for all the train types that provide the services along line - or could do so in future; with a handful of places including Crewe, Preston and Carlisle having special dispensations for Caledonian Sleeper services, as these are in fact longer that any of their platforms, between London and Carstairs / Edinburgh Waverley! Small stations served only by local services may just be 3 - 8 cars long, depending on their age; Worcestershire Parkway on the other hand is likely to be looking ahead to when Cross Country eventually ditch the Voyager, and hopefully replace it with something less cramped! If you ever make it to Scotland's Parliamentary service between Dundee and Carnoustie, take a good look at Barry Links station, which doesn't just have closed platform sections stretching off to near-infinity; it also has extra-wide footbridges that allowed soldiers to march across them in their formations!! n Yet today it is served on weekdays only by one train in each direction - usually a 2-car class 158 or a 3-car class 170! And go to Perth, whose platform 4 is the longest in Scotland - long enough for trains of 23 Mk 1 coaches, no less! Perth must also be a contender for the most underused large stations too, with 7 of its original 9 platforms still in use - part of the two north-facing bays still visible, but long-since converted into a DMU servicing facility!
Crewe is home to me. The 153's are often used on the Heart of Wales Line, can you imagine sitting on that basically all day to get from Crewe to Swansea?!
Liverpool Lime St hack for you. If you're travelling into Lime Street on National Rail, go through the barriers and there's a passageway next to Boots that leads to a lift that will take you straight to the Wirral line (no barriers either)
Excellent video, we look forward to you travelling on the Brigg Line and it's unique passenger service in future, when you do Gainsborough Central to Gainsborough Lea Road
A point to point idea, and a journey that I've done myself (for actual travel purposes too!) is to go from Narberth (Pembrokeshire) to Narborough (Leicestershire), which is one of my locals!
Fun fact about Moreton-in-marsh, theres a few abandond trains at the fire training center, it even has an old virgin train stored there, it does look cool, i saw it on a video but i never found it sadly but hey, the more you know, awesome noises and video by the way :)

Ahhh of course!
@@stephenreardon2698 I remember seeing photos of one of the HST sets terminating there. It was the perfect length, barely any room at either end!
@@NickBadleyHi! Im from Evesham. The trains are always busy after Oxford which is really annoying.
Future proofing? On the UK rail network? I didn't think that was allowed
11:34 there's a point-to-point for a video Nick
If you would’ve went from Worcester to Hereford, and then Hereford to Shrewsbury you’d have passed through the control of Moreton on Lugg signal box!
I can think of a few more points to points, such as Ashford to Ashford, Mill Hill to Mill Hill and as you said University to University as well as Stratford to Stratford.
Mill Hill (Blackburn) to Mills Hill (Greater Manchester) to Mill Hill Broadway (North London) would be epic!
and mill hill east (northern line)
Northumberland Park to Northumberland Park will be possible when the Newcastle version eventually opens, only the Metro version exists at the moment.
