I understand loving to crochet, and that hit of dopamine and sense of accomplishment when you complete a project. But it's important to take regular breaks, stretch your body ( especially wrists and fingers that get cramped from overuse. ), get regular sleep , get outside and not isolate. This enjoyable activity has become an addiction, and I worry about your physical and mental health. Talk to a loved one and/or health professional about steps you can take to balance your lifestyle. I know there are people in your life that want the very best for you. ( including the crocheting community! ) Please reach out and take care.

The trouble with trying to charge people for the hours is that your finished projects would be so overpriced that no one would actually buy them. It’s such a personal thing regardless of how long it takes to complete an item that it’s next to impossible to be fair about it, one person working at one speed , someone else at another. Your speed really really varies depending upon so so many variables.

If I were doing crafts for a job, I wouldn't figure an hourly wage. I would figure a daily wage. But, considering you are home, no commute, and available to the family if needed, 16.88/hour isn't bad. And working projects at salable price points like $5, $10 & $20 would be a better use of time. And I would do a day dedicated to one item, like your alligator. Making as many alligators as I can in one day, etc. that way you wouldn't use up time moving from one set of supplies and tools to another.

Yes but you only make that IF you sell the stuff you make. If it doesnt sell then you made less money. You need to actually keep records of how long a item takes to make and if you sell it to get a more accurate idea of what you make at the markets against what time you spend doing it. Also count the time you spend at market, setup, driving and all. I have a friend who found out she was making 3 dollars an hour for her crochet business. And that didnt even include the cost of yarn deducted from her total take home.

I think the you should be charging more for your items! Your custom plushie should be $90 to $100 and the other items you made should sell for $25 to $30 dollars. You should be compensated for your time in terms of a living wage.
I realize people here in the USA 🇺🇸 are use to buying mass produced items cheaply. Therefore, they do want to pay 💰 more money for handcrafted items, which is sad.

Yes I definitely do. And I don’t plan on making a habit of crocheting for 8 hours a day! It was way too much. And I think crocheting that much would take the joy out of it for me!

$16.88/hr and that's not even accounting for the cost of materials.

@@ASolangeM I know it’s crazy and that’s why don’t think crocheting by itself is the way to go. I do markets and crochet to spend time with my teenagers who think crochet stuff is cool! 😂

Well, darn, I was looking forward to watching your video, but 3 minutes and 10 seconds in that music was just so loud and irritating. I'm sorry I couldn't watch your video. But it seemed like it would be really good and entertaining good luck.

@@deborahdonnelly8423 definitely not going to be making crocheting for 8 hours a day my job. It was an experiment to see what it would be like. Thank you so much for your comment and I hope you get some relief for your hands.
