@@realcartoongirl I'm an Android user and I've used a budget tablet from both Apple and Samsung that cost around the same price, and Apple is just better. For the price, whether it's an IPad or IPhone, you are getting flagship specs and top of the line software. The IPhone SE might have an LCD Screen, but like Ken explained it's a better and sharper screen. Also it has Flagship Performance and Camera Quality.

Thanks for speaking out on how the design for this phone is still relevant on 2022! Some people like me, we don’t really care about having the latest design. We just want something that works. For me, I bought the SE2020 because I was in dire need of a new phone. I play games on my phone, and ofc the battery dies out very quickly, but other than that, it has been very impressive! Two years flew by like a blink. This is such a great review, thanks!

Omg a tech video that doesn't crap all over the SE 😲 So many reviews take points off b/c it doesn't have face ID, OLED, no bezels, etc but that is exactly why most people buy an SE. All y'all who want face ID and new design have plenty of options, the SE is for the rest of us. I have the SE 2 now and just ordered the SE 3 for 5g & bigger battery and I'm super excited to get it. OLED phones give me headaches and nausea, face ID has just never worked well for me either so I'm really happy Apple still makes a good touch ID phone with LCD.

The reason why I bought the SE model is due to the fingerprint. I honestly HATE the faceID, it never works when I'm wearing the face mask even after the last update, and it fails most of the time even when I'm not wearing the mask and I need to enter manually the PIN. The worst part is when it works, and you still need to swipe up to unlock the phone.... it's so inconvenient. With the fingerprint, you press the button and that's it.

Same here ... I bought the SE because of TouchID.
I'm not a heavy phone user and I couldn't care less about the camera so this model is perfect for me. And it's small and cheap ... win win!
So it doesn't look trendy, who cares it's a utility device not a freakin' fashion statement.

You hit it on the head. I traded my 11 Pro Max in for a 13 Pro Max and was largely underwhelmed. The body was uncomfortable to hold and the cameras weren't as big of an improvement as I expected. I'm a casual shooter, so I hardly ever use anything besides the standard lens. ProMotion was sick, but it wasn't enough to justify $1400. I returned it and got a 128GB SE. So far, after adjusting to the bezels and overall smaller size, I've been loving it. Extremely small and lightweight (even with a case), performance has been blazing, battery life is acceptable if not exemplary, and the software trickery at play with the cameras yields a larger improvement over the 2020 SE than many would think.

A $400 phone that punches waaaaay above it's price and competes in some aspects with phones double triple it's price. All I see is these dumb TH-camrs comparing it with 900-$1300 phones like "this $400 phone has massive bezzels, while this $1200 one has a perfect AMOLED bezeless 1440p display, this $400 only has one camera, while this $1000 has 3-4 cameras!" Something many reviewers tend to have lost. Thy want the latest and greatest with all the bells and whistles. They forget about the people who wants just a good cheap phone that will work well for years to come. Haha, even after having Genius Bar load a brand new battery into the 2016 last year, you can still almost watch the battery drain in front of you even while Battery Health reports 99% capacity. Truth is iOS 15 kills the battery on that phone.
I still have it; I’d love to figure out how to downgrade it back to ios9 just for a nostalgia toy..

I watch alot of vids on tech and the iPhone SEs get dissed for the form factor. But what people don't understand is that this form factor is still popular. The iPhone 13 does not work any better than the latest version of the SE. People who want the "latest and greatest" seem addicted to the outer appearance more than performance. BTW, the iPhone 8 is just a good as the 13 too.

Size makes a difference for me. I'm used to this Moto E4 that I like very much. This seems like an interesting upgrade for me, especially for the camera. It's like a LTS Apple barebone. I just wish they added a bit extra battery life. Also like the touch ID. iOS 16 might be the cherry on top of this.

For the price, I wouldn't complain about the vintage iPhone 6/7/8 design on the modern SE. Apple always future proofs their hardware for 5 years or longer. The iPhone 6S is still getting software upgrades. And for those users still using the old models, eventually to a point where parts to repair them are too expensive, the new SE is a perfect option and/or transition to upgrade to a phone with a familiar design (no need to tamper with muscle memory) with new internal guts to last long going forward.
Older accessories can be reused on the new SE. And using an LCD over OLED not only helps the SE have a longer battery life (especially now that the 2022 SE has 5G), it helps users not have to deal with pulse-width modulation.

We're in a time where technology in cellphones is peaking to a point to where people are bored due to lack of innovation when the reality is, excellent technology is available to all in a consumers market. In analyzing the minimalist effect of the light phone which some enjoy due to an over-saturation of technology, my realisation is the Apple knew the exact moment to go retro for technological detoxing and that the antithesis of innovation, oddly, propels humanism and allows us to take a step back and appreciate this paradigm!

  • @lonerhino3229

The square edge design of the prior SE model and its size was the perfect combination for me. The squareness, lets say, helped the phone stay in my hand more securely. I lost a large amount of contacts one day while charging the battery. Gone for ever. Purchased an iPhone 8 in the second half of 2019 believing I purchased a substandard model from Apple. I wish Apple would have done something in compensation. Malfunctioning from the beginning, the iPhone 8 got totally crazy after updating IOS 15. No solution for me and no help from the manufacturer again. Programmed Obsolescence through the Operating System. Total rip off. Yet, I will buy my last iPhone believing I now believe I understand what the name of the game is. Will buy the new SE because I am used to the interface, otherwise, I would not lend myself to another costly expense and be taken advantage of by the manufacturer: They have gone too far in this regard. A new phone after 2 1/2 years? I use the phone for practical reasons. Still cannot understand the reviews about a phone where all is said is regarding the screen, the camera, and gaming. There is a portion of users that are not interested in showing off the latest gadget or use a mini screen to enjoy the richness of colours, etc etc of a game or movie because it makes no sense, for one. That is why I have a 50" screen TV, you see. Perhaps manufacturers could consider gown up consumers with less requirements. The price they charge for these devices makes no sense. Will buy SE for 2022 because it is small, powerful, 5G will provide better and faster reception as claimed, I can see it lasting 5 years against the 2,5 that my 600$ iPhone 8 lasted me. 64GB is enough for what I do and need. The camera? A gimmick. I use my DSLR to make decent pictures that I can edit later. Should the phone be provided with a decent camera that makes a viewable photo, I will have the option. In this review Danki states that the new model has the square edge design and follows saying he does not see the SE model keeping up with the new design. Well, that was the original design. The SE was the odd looking one with no roundness in its forms. They have flipped the design and the old is now found on the new 13. SE is identical to the iPhone 8 that, by the way, will not stay put in my hand due to its round edges. Bigger device with round edges are very cumbersome to hold, at least for me. If you keep your phone in your hand for 9 hours a day, that makes you a professional round edge phone handler. I am in the Canary Islands, Spain. There is no Apple Store so I am not able to buy direct from Apple in person or purchase online because it will not be delivered even though I am in Spain territory. I have been told Apple´s policy, which means discrimination. With this, I am not eligible to purchase Apple Care either and they suggest to add it to the homeowners insurance. What?. Just like that! Do not let me tell you about my MacBook Pro and other devices I own. Same story where Apple shows its true colours. The color of money and nothing else. SE 2022 model is advertised in the US for 429$, which is 386€ (Euro). Today March 31, 2022, the SE 64GB is between 509 to 539 Euros that represent 565 to 600 USD, same phone. 31% more expensive.

I just got one of these to replace my previous Android. Used to be an Apple user and it reminded me of my older iphones. I really like the little haptic clicks and buzzes you get with certain actions. I miss electronics being tactile and it scratches that itch. I do miss an audio jack and a slot for micro sd cards, but I’m very clever and have been adapting already. Also coming from using a phone with a quad camera, the SE’s pictures are actually a lot better even in dim light and front facing camera!

I was excited about the new se 2020 because I was looking for a replacement for my old phone. In my area, I picked up the 2020 model for 100$! there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that even touches it in that price range. I am not an avid phone gamer so my battery does last a bit longer, but yes the battery is quite tiny. I would either buy a battery case (sacrificing practicality) or have a charge in your pocket (general annoyance). Be this new SE as it may, but it is a strong contender in the low end-budget area.

According to the spec sheet over at apple site, the newer model uses something called "Advanced LTE", which used to come with the iPhone 8, while the 2nd Gen. SE uses Gigabit-Class LTE like the newer models, even with this downgrade I'm surprised to see the newer phone having better sustained LTE performance. Your thoughts on this?

The best phone ever will always be the first SE of all! The aesthetics, the battery, the camera and the price, plus the touch id, the best combo ever! I run out of storage with the first one and I basically bought the second generation SE but yeah, the battery stucks, I have it for more than 2 years and I am now thinking of upgrading it because of that :(. I hate waste money like this, it hurts my feelings, but it's not so doable a battery like this one. I also don't want to leave the Apple universe, I really like the ecosystem, the UX they provide is the best one.

Obviously, I'm a cell phone 101 guy, use it for calls, emails, Some functions like strava and streaming some music basically. The battery is also probably getting to the point of degradation so, yeah, why I'm here looking at the newer ones. But for $50 it probably was one of those "perfect" things.

I've had the 2020 SE for just about a year now, and I really love it. I bought it shortly after getting my first MacBook because I wanted to get into that EcOsYsTeM after seeing how lovely MacOS was to use. I'm not a power user, and I've never owned the flagship phones. This phone does everything I want it to to be honest. It was cheap, I has really good build quality (I know people say that the design is boring and out-dated looking, but you can't deny that the phone is really well build; clicky buttons, good materials, and the best vibration motor I've had in a phone), the camera is just fine for me, and since I dont really use my phone that much it can easily last me through the day. But most importantly, it lets me do all the cool apple-exclusive stuff like airdropping, copy and pasting between my phone and mac (that feature still blows my mind a little bit lol) and so on. I think a lot of reviewers find this phone boring or underwhelming, but that's clearly because they're all comparing it to the iPhone 13 or other newer iPhones. If you're coming from a mid-range android phone like me, I think you'll be very satisfied. This phone isn't really meant to be bought by people who already own an iPhone X, XR, 11 or something like that, It's for people with a 7 or older, or people who've never had an Iphone before who want's to try out the iOS experience. It's definitely got me hooked, and I'm positive my next phone will be an Iphone as well.

This is my first Smart Phone given to me by a friend, the SE 2020. I really like the size. I was dreading having to buy an Android because they are so big. I'm petite and have small hands. The SE 2020 fits me perfectly. I don't really have anything to compare it to as I had a flip phone before. The camera is fine for me, but as I use it more, I do wish it had more of a zoom than it does. Still, it's a great phone, especially for a newby the Smart phones. As this phone becomes obsolete due to lack of IOS upgrades, then I will probably try an SE 2022.
