However, given today’s economy’s bad and Apple’s moving towards its carbon neutral goals, calling this iPhone C will make as much sense as E. Give them a meaningful suffix and it’s gonna sell like hot cakes unlike all the fan editions.
As a 13 mini user I just want a smaller phone option. Not even mini small! Just narrower than 70mm. The 15 pro is currently still the only real option I have.
I still had hoped that Apple develop the iPhone SE 4 around an updated iPhone 13 mini design, maybe a tad thicker to accommodate a bigger battery in the 2,800 to 2,900 mAh range.
I’ve been saying for a while now that current sizes are getting too big, at this point I don’t think it should go further. Instead, I want companies to try and hit phone sizes for everyone. Specifically in Apples case I’ve suggested formatting the iPhone lineup to be similar to the iPad and MacBook lines. My ideal lineup if we have to keep the current sizes would be: iPhone & iPhone Plus: 5.9 & 6.5 iPhone Air & Air Plus: 6.1 & 6.7 iPhone Pro & Pro Max: 6.3 & 6.9 iPhone Mini: 5.4 (follows iPad Mini Release cycle)
Perhaps the reason why they don’t do a small iPhone is because you would use it less and if you’re using it less it means less time they gain revenue from advertising.
That'll be the air. The lighter weight and smaller dimensions will be achieved through thinness instead of limiting the screen size. It'll be a win-win.
The s10e was not a cheaper model: it was a Mini model (in Apple parlance). It was flagship specs in small form factor. The FEs are clearly a different line that are meant to be cheaper, unlike the s10e.
If the SE becomes a yearly device and is essentially the Apple equivalent of the Pixel A series then I’ll be happy because it’ll remain compact and hopefully be under $500.
I am thinking about upgrading my iPhone 12 Pro to an iPhone SE I want to get a more basic phone and use it for a long time (I don’t care much about the cameras, btw)
I’m probably gonna stick with my 11 Pro Max till the wheels fall off, as not only it still works perfectly fine for me, but I also have a new case with a MagSafe ring built in, so now I have the headphone jack back (kinda)!
The only problem I see with the '16e' naming is that the SE line/type of phone typically lasts multiple years before being updated by Apple, so it's gonna be a bit weird in a couple of years name-wise when the iPhone 18/19 whatever is out.
@ Yes, but who says they can’t change that again? From 5 to 10 it was a yearly cycle. And for most other products they go to a more regular cycle with smaller upgrades.
@@florian_d that is not very likely to be a thing again, if you’ve noticed Apple has moved all iPad models to longer upgrade cycles, they are not selling as well as they used to despite still being the most sold tablets in the market

The SE name was used because they’re an enhancement of legacy designs. They’re older editions of the iPhone design with newer, special features. The (seemingly formerly) SE 4 from leaks sounds like it has enough changes and diversions from the iPhone 14 it’s based on to the point where maybe a new name was warranted.

I'll go on a tangent with the SoC situation here: If it's going to be named with the precious generation's number, it might be indicating that it's going to have the same SoC as iPhone 16. That would mean that Apple is going with Samsung's FE strategy, which is a step in the opposite direction with what they did with iPhone 16's last year (same generation SoC as Pros) and the same thing they did in the year before (iPhone 15's having SoCs one generation behind the 15 Pros). All of it is confusing but I do understand that Apple found the balance in keeping regular iPhones with the current year's technology and making iPhone E a spiritual successor of iPhone Mini by giving it the old processors to it, like what they do with iPad Mini. So, why not call it iPhone Mini again? They don't want to associate it with a series they killed a few years ago? Idk. At this rate, Apple is going to have problems with their device families like Samsung did years ago. Their tablet family is extensive, too. There are rumors where a baseline MacBook with no "Air" or "Pro" moniker is going to arrive in the next year. The whole device lineup is starting to seem like a McDonald's Menu. 1:35 why Samsung is using Fan Edition for devices that's cheaper than the normal models? It doesn't have much to do with S10 E, it started with Note 7 FE, a device fans wanted but it's served alongside the newer models, thus it's the older flagship launching again with cheaper prices. Then Samsung started to use it with revised models of its previous flagships. That's my point, if Apple is not making an iPhone 17 SE and naming it iPhone 16 E instead, they must be trying to tap into the second-hand market like Samsung is doing. I think Samsung and Apple are trying to steal back some attention from the second-hand deals. Wanna buy the old flagship from someone or want to buy it straight from Samsung and Apple? So as flagships are kept for longer periods of time, the sales shouldn't diminish as much. Another side effect is second-hand market getting inflated because older flagships should still worth more than these new entry-level flagship devices in the sellers' eyes. That's what I think about the future of smartphone market. Apple and Samsung are receding to higher tears, surrendering the entry level-smartphone market to Chinese OEMs while Chinese OEMs are aware of that and delivering formidable alternatives to the subpar entry-level flagship offerings coming from Apple and Samsung in the same price range. The ecosystem argument is their last stance. Idk what else those two behemots can do

the iPhone Air is probably just what the SE is going to be. Like how the MacBook Air from 2010 onwards was basically a MacBook SE to the MacBook Pro and the MacBook 12". So they'll make the iPhone Air market it with their new 5G modem to sound cooler and stuff while putting in an A18 to match with the current gen iPhone while sacrificing on battery life, cameras, that type of thing. Making it take the 16’s number will make customers feel it’s seriously out dated in two years.
Which makes me think that would go against them more than just keeping it as the SE
I hate camera bumps if this camera bump is almost flush I’m buying it.
16E doesn’t make sense to me because the 17 comes out a few months later which will make it sound dated
If it means it’s based on the 16 then that help ppl understand
Haven’t heard anything about whether this SE/16E will be getting Camera Control. I’m guessing it isn’t, but then I’m left wondering about whether the phone gets the “Visual Intelligence” features that are tied to the CC button…
Audio sounds better than your studio. Mic no longer clipping
SE = Senior Edition ❤
I just got a 2022 5g iPhone SE 3 and it was only 75$ from straight talk 100% battery brand new basically so yeah I can save a bunch of money.
@@Joesizzle442344ok cool what does that have to do with Senior Edition
@ Love hearing “saving”. Best the system!
That new modem makes me nervous
I believe you said your wife has family in the Philippines and it looks like you are there right now. My wife is from the Philippines and after being married for 15 years, I still have yet to visit there. Hopefully, someday soon I will make the trip out there although it would be a very long flight with 1 to 2 stops along the way.
And then this iPhone will be Apple's first carbon neutral iPhone.
I mean... It makes sense 🤷♂
I just hope that it's the size of the iPhone 13 mini.
That’s why calling it _iPhone 16C_ also makes sense. They really should! C doesn’t stand for “cheapness” in 5C but “carbon neutral” + “eConomical ” + maybe “classic” as well. 😂😂😂
This is out of topic but, What's that red dot on your door for?!
i always thought they could have SE phones be 16 SE and be released in march or april, same as google introduces pixel 9 and a few months later pixel 9a comes.
They’ve had “Edition” named products, I guess it’s not a special edition?
What if it stands for similar edition?
Whatever it’ll be called, i need it already. My 12 is walking on crutches:(
E could also mean essential
I always thought SE stands for ‘Essential’
Hearing iPhone M
As in MID
I have an iPhone 15. Should I get the 16E? I want apple intelligence and that new modem mainly.
Maybe
16E sounds like economy, more budget feeling than se
Will the ePhone have an annual upgrade cycle as well? 😅
ePhone. I like that
Right on - It’s just a phone
I still think the SE branding should be referencing Simplified Edition.
E will stand for essential, if anything
Cheap? Yeah it’ll definitely be cheaper but reliable? The iPhone has been pretty buggy and laggy lately because of iOS.
If they’re going to bump up the price, then the E could stand for extortion.
The 2016 SE was the best version of iPhone 5 . I’m still using it in 2025 .
March
Green screen Drew is back again! 🤣
I want the mini back. I got a 16 and the size just isn’t growing on me.
I bet if Apple made a phone with no selfie camera, just full screen it would sell
They probably gonna call it the IPhone 16 Eir
I got a iPhone 6 so I'm waiting for this phone ☎
What did R stand for in xR
Literally nothing. Apple confirmed it doesn't stand for anything
Rectum 🤷♂️
