    I’ve been making aeropress for years, but never knew about benefit of two filters or to stop pressing once you hear the hiss. I’ll have to try those techniques! Thank you!!

    Wet the filters before use ..who knew ?
    A great cup of coffee is a world statement.

      Yes, water always goes for the dryest thing nearby, so if your filter is dry, it will suck up a lot of water and that results in literal filter-taste in your coffee. More actual coffeetaste if you wet the filter before! :)

    Hi! I make my coffeee the exact way as you described. I love my aeropress. But I will be looking for a new grinder now, thats fits when I'm on the trail. Thanks for the tip and good videos. Cheers!

    That's exactly how I make my coffee at home (sometimes), on trail and in my camper. I'm just using less water, because I like my coffee stronger. It produces always good coffee.

    Great video. I guess with the Balkans trip you’ve been brewing at different altitudes and levels of humidity?
    I wonder if that makes a difference to the brew? Like does the bloom phase more bubbly at higher altitudes?

    • @floordenil
      @floordenil  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oei, I don't think I'm able to answer that question as I wasn't paying attention to that too much on the POTB. To be fair, I always made my coffee in the morning, which meant I was at the bottom of the mountain and always somewhat at the same altitude. So sorry, afraid I can't help you with that!

  • @juliascheumer6700
    @juliascheumer6700 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you so much! As I love my morning ritual at home, where I grind my coffee manually and do a pour-over, I really missed my coffee routine on trail! Tested lots of instant coffees but I just didn't find anything tasting even vaguely similar to real good fresh coffee 😃 So hiking always meant, no coffee at all 🥺 Now I have a plan though, thanks for sharing! 😎

  • @markcummings6856
    @markcummings6856 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fantastic demonstration. Thanks.
    Ideally, water should cool down to 195 Fahrenheit/ 90 Celsius for coffee.
    Can’t wait to see your trip.
    Happy Trails

    • @dgmstuart
      @dgmstuart ปีที่แล้ว

      @markcummings6858 you’re explaining coffee temperatures to a Barista? 🙃
      Ideal temperature depends massively on how developed the roast is. I’m sure for some coffee 90° works well - particularly if it’s a dark roast, but for light roast coffee, water just off the boil works very well!

      You can also take grinded coffee with you! It takes away a bit of the flavour, but saves you the weight of a grinder :). Butttttt in the end - of course - you do whatever you like most!

    Hey Floor, eindelijk iemand die evenveel waarde hecht aan goede koffie on the trail. Vorig jaar in Noorwegen had ik dezelfde setup mee. De rest van de groep eerst wat lachen, want het was natuurlijk wat extra gewicht. Op dag twee stond de eerste naast mij... of ze eens mocht proeven. Sure... Gevolg, de koffie was sneller op dan gepland. Love the videos by the way!

    I go full out with a pour over set up on trips. My cook pot has a small spout so it acts like a kettle. Plastic Hario v60 62 grams, grinder 255 grams, and mug 45 grams. Funny enough that next trip I'm going on is the Isle of Skye. Nice video!

    I use a Wacaco Minipresso for my trail coffee. It’s very easy to use.
    Enjoy Skye, it’s a wonderful island Floor.
    By the way, with your background in mind, do you know how many Flemington places there are in Scotland? Many Flemish people fled the continent and settled here where they were warmly welcomed.

    Also a huge aeropress fan (it's even my choice brew method at home) but on big trips I try to go UL and so am a bit stuck with instant coffee. I see quite some 'specialty' instant coffee options for the US market, but can't find anything (!) here in Europe. Know anything from your barista circles?
    Best I can do is Simon Levelt instant coffee which is certainly better than Nescafe gold but that isn't saying much! groetjes and happy hiking!

    Aeropress and stainless steel filter ;) less to pack- no problems of wet paper stuck together. Rinse and repeat.
    Waste coffee 'puck' dried out are great on a fire to keep mosquitos away.
    Try Trung Nguyan Vietnamese coffee- intense chocolate/ nut aroma awesomeness

    And here is me with my cheap Aldi-instant 3in1 "coffee" bags ^^
    To be honest i dont really like the taste of them but since I only use them on holidays and on hikes, they somehow have become a signature taste of being outside. so i somehow associate them with something good and sometimes feel a craving for them when i walk past them in the store.
