The energy in this song is amazing. Freddie is very sick by this time but he keeps coming into the studio begging for songs to sing. Brian had this one but thought it would be too difficult for Freddie who could barely stand at this point. Freddie slammed back a couple shots of Vodka and said "I will do it, Darling!" and totally smashed it. What a champion Freddie was and an inspiration to us all. He deserves every bit of his legendary status.

Can you even believe that *this* is the voice of a dying man ?
Freddie was incredibly strong and determined, making music until he simply could not do it any more.
The following was said by Brian May about recording this :
“The melody called for some very demanding top notes, and I’d only been able to 'demo' them in falsetto,” May recalled. “I said to Freddie, ‘I don’t want you strain yourself - this stuff isn't going to be easy in full voice, even for you!’”
The singer was up to the challenge. “Don’t worry - I’ll fucking nail it, darling!,” Mercury told May, before downing some vodka and recording his vocals.
“[Freddie] propped himself up against the mixing desk and … delivered one of the most extraordinary performances of his life,” May declared. “In the final mix of 'The Show Must Go On,' when you get to ‘On with the show’, you are listening to a man who conquered everything to deliver his finest work.”

Our beloved Freddie did this song 2 months before his death. He was gravely ill at this point. Freddie believed that life was to be pursued in a way to reach and give joy and happiness and to get as much as you could out if this life. So....the show must go on, on stage and in life.

This song always makes me cry 😭 I don’t know what was intended but I always feel like it’s Freddie saying that the show must go on after his death

    • @bluebell3720
      @bluebell3720 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think it reflects his strength
      Even when he's low emotionally
      Inside my heart is braking..
      It's on with the show!
So many times during his career he was having difficulties but the audience would never know
The intro to Freddie hard life was influenced by vesti la guibba
Broken hearted clown whos smile is painted on but the show goes on
And this is how Brian explained the theme for show must go on
      So probably Freddie idea

Freddie was much too sick to make a new video when they did this song, which is why they used clips from past videos of other songs of theirs. His body was failing him, but his voice was still outstanding.

It is almost unbelievable what freddie was capable of with his voice when he was already very ill. I am always impressed by his strength, determination and perseverance listening to this song. He was a musician and performer from top to toe.
The big crowd (cca. 120 000 people) you have seen was at their very last concert in Knebworth on 09.08.1986.

Queen is one of the biggest British rock bands formed in 1970. Freddie Mercury had one of the best voices around with an amazing range. He was a real showman as the live concerts show. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is their most famous song but they had so many great hits in the 70's-90's such as "We Are The Champions", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Love Of My Life", "You're My Best Friend", "Who Wants to Live Forever", "Somebody To Love", "Fat Bottomed Girls", "We Will Rock You" etc.

He told Brian Mays wife ill die when I cant sing anymore. The very last song he recorded was Mother Love and Brian had to sing the last verse dying Freddie was still amazing

This song was pretty much his Goodbye Anthem.
Very Emotional..his last album and he was very sick.
    Miss him so much.
Does have a "We Are The Champions".. vibe.
Very inspirational song to many around the world.

I like your reactions to Queen! They had so many great performances. The concert you saw in this video was at Knebworth in England...it was Freddie's last stage performance with Queen. The other scenes were from many of their wonderful videos: 'Break Thru' was performed on the back of a moving train. ' Princes of the Universe' is on part of a movie set for The Highlander, that Queen wrote the music for, and Freddie has a sword duel with the star. 'It's a Hard Life' takes place at a masquerade ball. 'I'm Going Slightly Mad' has a kind of macabre humor and features a gorilla and penguins. And of course, there's 'I Want to Break Free', done in drag as a parody of a UK sitcom, plus a little ballet on the side. You never know what to expect, but you know the music will be great!

For your information all band members are college graduates and Brian May the guitarist has a doctorate degree in astro physics and I believe has an asteroid named after him. Also Freddie drank tea with honey to help sooth throat while he performed, and that may not all be alcohol you see at the piano.

  • @OriginalLictre
    @OriginalLictre 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

The sections of the video which have members of Queen in women's clothing are from the video for "I Want to Break Free", which was recorded to parody a popular British television program, "Coronation Street", which I think was was pretty much a soap opera.
The song "I want to break free" was written by the Bass player, John Deacon, and the concept for the video was from the drummer, Roger Taylor's girlfriend at the time.. [Edited to make sure there's no confusion for the composition of "The Show Must Go On.]
Reception of the "I Want to Break Free" video was very different between England and the United States. In England, where cross-dressing has long been a respected comedic trope, the video was very well respected, but it was controversial in the United States, basically ignored or banned from MTV, and helped result in poorer chart performance of the song..

I think all the fans was from -76 in Hyde Park, it was 125.000 there. That was a free concert. This song is so sad, in the lyricks he said « i bee warmer now, im soon rund the corner now» that meens he knew he comes to die soon, he was very sick here, no one get to see him anylonger beside those who was close to him. But his voice get stronger for a wail, I have read and hear his doctor said that is usual when you get such a sicknes. Spesial common for people who have somthing with art to do…..very strange….lovley, very sad from a wonderful magical man and band. Maybee this was in 1990/91 Im not sure. Yes but that does a huge disservice to Brian, Roger and John.. Freddie is the GOAT.. and I can’t physically take my eyes away from him when on stage… but Queen was ALL OF THEM.. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

Thanks, AB - so beautiful and dramatic -- compilation of past videos, b/c Fred was not well enough.. Brian wrote this.. others below have given the iconic quote, when Brian questioned whether Freddie was well enough to sing it... Freddie slammed back a couple shots of Vodka and said "I will do it, Darling!"

That concert was Live Aid. Queen was one of many popular bands of the day but Queen stole the show that day. The video had some things that were current and some older. Freddie had by that time wasted away to almost nothing from the AIDS. It was the era of music videos so this is what they put together for this song.

I simply love Queen and, above all, Freddie.
This song was the greatest goobye I've ever seen in my extended life.
Today everyone recognize him as the greatest performer off all times but, back when he died it wasn't quite so.
The front comments were a loudly rip but, behind, I've heard too many times, the society jugdment. " Well, off course he had to die with aids. He's gay, lay's down with every man he desire! " and so on and on!
I sincerelly hope that, today, the stigma vanished.
People should be ASHAMED TO JUDGE THE OTHER'S. Who hasn't made bad choises or had terrible relationshiops ?
Freddie, as much as all, was " ... only human, born to make mistakes! "
God bless you all by keeping Freddie's magic alive.

Not many will say this in this day and age. But HIV/AIDS had a terrible stigma and fear behind it at this time. People just freaked at being around people sick. I’m a nurse and just never felt this way (more afraid of hepatitis C back then) but the way his band members embraced him during his illness is amazing and they all deserve such love from us for doing so. They truly did love each other and you can tell. They wanted Freddie to be comfortable and they did that. They held each other up and truly supported each other. They were all Queen.
