    So.... here me out. Babe Ruth didn't get elected unanimously (somehow). Same thing for Jackie Robinson. By this logic, it's not just an Ichiro problem. Now personally, I would have voted for Ichiro - he deserves it. But I'm not gonna stress over it not being 100 percent. My real question is why didn't they elect Wagner until Year 10? He's am easy year 1 puck from me.

      I talked about more recent guys in this video, Griffey and Jeter at least
      Jackie Robson on definitely wasn’t unanimous bc of racism, probably the same thing with Willie mays and Hank Aaron, absolutely ridiculous but they played in a time where there was a ridiculous amount of racism. I also wasn’t sure if there was always a vote (for guys like babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig) so I didn’t mention those guys, but yea obviously more than deserving of unanimous if there was a vote.

    • @metal4ever516
      @metal4ever516 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do think you have a point about Jeter and Griffey... both of them should have been easy ones. According to the Hall of Fame themselves, when they started in 1936, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner received 215/229 votes, with Ty Cobb receiving 222. This is from the Halls official site btw, so you can reference it if you like. As for Robinson.... yeah, I would not at all be surprised if racists didn't want him in the Hall. Not sure where I'm going with this except to say there had been a pretty large amount of baseball writers who are idiots in one way or another. Ichiro still shoulda got 100 percent.

  • @frankbandera6591
    @frankbandera6591 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    Ted Williams only got 93.4% The guy had a nearly .500 OBP, batted .344 and would've beaten Babe Ruth's homerun record had he not lost 5 years of his prime to being drafted to fight in 2 wars.

  • @harrynamkoong3361
    @harrynamkoong3361 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    0.355 OBP, 107 OPS+ and 60.0 WAR are not numbers worthy of unanimous HOFer. 107 OPS+ means he was just 7% above league average hitter over those years he played. That's NOT HOF worthy never mind unanimous. And 60 WAR number is just borderline HOF number for an OF. His arm - since it's not "counted" in the OPS+ stat - helps him but not enough to make him unanimous. There is only one unanimous HOFer ever and Ichiro is definitely not it. If any OF should've been unanimous from SEA, it should've been Griffey Jr not Ichiro.
    Just as comparison, here are Andruw Jones' numbers. .337 OBP 111 OPS+ and 62.7 WAR. Both were contemporaries with similar numbers. Excellent defensive OFers - Jones was better defensively while Ichiro was a singles machine. I would say both are borderline HOFers. Would you argue Andruw Jones is a unanimous HOFer? If not why is he so much "worse" than Ichiro in your eyes?

    • @peskytalk
      @peskytalk  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ichrio started at 28 years old, I don’t care about overall numbers at all, he had 3000
      Hits while starting 8 years later than most other MLB players, thats all you need to hear

    • @harrynamkoong3361
      @harrynamkoong3361 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@peskytalk You don’t care about overall numbers at all?? WTF? HOF is all about overall numbers.
      There are 33 players who had/have 3000 hits, and none of them were unanimous so why should Ichiro be unanimous? And you can make a legit case that Ichiro is the worst hitter out of those 33.
      The fact that he was a rookie at 28 is interesting factoid but it's not some unique accomplishment worthy of HOF never mind unanimous vote since most Japanese players come to MLB via posting system. Most of the Japanese players come over at similar age.

      @@peskytalk If he had started sooner, I personally think he would have been pushed out of the league far sooner. He was great, but he was not nearly what casual fans think he was.
      130ops + in his record breaking season with only 320 total bases. The first year Pujols a sub 140 ops+, Angels fans wanted him to retire.
      I lived in Seattle during his prime. I consider myself a fan of him, but I never considered him to be the same level as Gwynn/Brett/Boggs/Pujols. So many of his “hits” were easy ground outs if he wasn’t so damn fast.
      Hall of fame? Absolutely. Unanimous? Nah.
      I’m madder that Abreu, a guy with more WAR in fewer at bats, and a more productive offensive player (.395 career OBP! 128OPS+ ) hasn’t gotten in at all.

    While any hall of fame enshrines its choices, it can never capture every single detail and player in history. What makes Baseball history is the memories of our favorite players, many of whom will never be voted in. These are the players who will never be forgotten.

    Ichiro was missing 2 things--a pennant & a ring. The only times I believe he won 1 ALCS game in 2 appearances. And both were so far apart from each other too (2001, 2012). I think that's why that one vote wasnt cast for Ichiro. Hey look, Griffey never played in a World Series either and ppl thought he should go in unanimously. It's okay to be a HOFer without winning a ring. But at least play in a Fall Classic. Mariano Rivera won 5 of 7 WS he played in. But wearing #42 is the symbolic # in MLB. It was only right to make him the 1st unanimously elected player.

    First, you are perpetuating some myths. 1st , the baseball hall of fame is a private organization with no direct or formal ties to mlb. Mlb has NOTHING to do with the HOF rules or procedures of voting. The hof decides who is on the ballot and who isn't..period. 2nd, the HOF DOES have exhibits and information about players not inducted into the HOF. ie, the bat Rose used when he broke Cobbs all time hit record. The bat used by Bonds when he broke Aaron's all-time HR record. So your assertion that the HOF doesn't "talk about" these players just isn't true. 3rd, mlb has no say whatsoever in who works for a media network as an analyst or commentator. When a player or manager retires from baseball he can work wherever he wants. The only caveat would be someone like Rose, who was banned, and could never be in an mlb ballpark, but could and did talk on air about baseball for ESPN or ABC.
    Those facts aside, Ichiro having 1 person not vote for him is not a big deal. He's in the hall of fame.
    Just do this, look at the list of people who got 90% or more and honestly say that Ichiro is more deserving of unanimity than them. More than Aaron, Mays, Williams etc. Hell, I'm upset that 6....SIX..voters didn't vote for Nolan Ryan...Cy Young didn't get in until his 2nd ballot and he just squeaked by at 76%.
    You and I and lot of others agree that there are guys who should be in the HOF but aren't.
    Ortiz got in Bonds didnt..we'll big Papi didn't treat media people like garbage, Bonds did. Considering that the HOF voters are all from the Baseball writers of America Association, it's not hard to fathom that some of them might not vote for a guy who literally once told a writer, " f### you and your family".
    Bonds didn't understand the "Never $#*+ where you eat" philosophy.
    Rise is another matter. I never want him in the HOF. The rule against betting on baseball is posted in every mlb and minor league clubhouse. It is included in every mlb player contract, as well as every mlppa collective bargaining agreement. Bet on baseball, banned for life. He knew the rule, bet on baseball, got caught , lied about it for 15 years.
    Actions, say hello to consequences. And putting Rose in the HOF sends a bad message, that if you are talented enough as an athlete, then rules just don't have to apply to you.

    I would like to just take a second to say there's more than just an Ichiro problem. Totals are way overvalued. Players like Pedroia probably won't get into the hall of fame because of things way outside their control where they couldn't rack up stats for another 4-5 years

  • @mouseii88

    I think it is a joke when you let Monday morning quarterbacks decide who gets in based on their personal prejudices. Let's be real here... no one, who has a say in the voting process, probably ever stepped on a baseball field as a professional. Yet, these are the know-it-alls who dictate to the baseball world who THEY THINK should be going to the Hall of Fame. Further, what moron decided it was somehow hilarious to omit Ichiro Suzuki from the HOF?? This nonsense should be corrected by having each voter's selections publicly viewed.. so everyone can identify who the clowns are responsible for doing these childish things. I bet you the loser who voted Ichiro from the Hall is never going to identify himself... and yes, it has to be a man. Women wouldn't care one way or another based on just gender. But guys are sometimes funny about these things. Especially those who hold some form of envy or jealousy. Think about it!
