Somehow ppl are saying nobody should get in unanimously when Babe Ruth didn't. Yet we literally have Rivera. And why should voters base their vote on the mistakes of voters almost 100 years ago. Not everybody should have a vote.
If anything, there should be MORE people that get in unanimously. I understand not voting for the alleged steroid/HGH users, but outside of that we've got so many players who should be an easy "Yes" when asking the simple question of "do they belong in the hall of fame?"
Committees and public votes are fundamentally flawed in different ways, though if committees pulled broad backgrounds in their fields appropriately for a category, they would reflect better. Not just baseball/MLB critics, but former talent, stat analysts, and significant independent sports journalists and content creators (like the channels we watch). It’s similar to how I will criticize The Game Awards and Oscars for their committee pools, I believe the Best Soundtrack category should feature more music critics and musicians in their voter pool, and animation critics and animation industry talent should vote on Best Animated Feature. I respect Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's main theme and vocal songs but it’s no Undertale soundtrack which is still discussed to this day by musicians and Toby Fox has been cooking with J-Pop musicians who loved his work. I think if musicians were nominating and awarding, I’m confident that Undertale would have gotten it. Similar to with animation where I’m sure even Disney animators will choose to vote for a non-Disney/Pixar movie more than general film critics who only go to animated movies for their kids.
There was a HoF voter who tweeted that he refused to vote for Gary Sheffield in his last year of eligibility. When asked why, he stated that he: a) wasn't that familiar with Sheffield's stats; b) was at most only a casual fan; and c) believed he could vote for Sheffield the following year. I'll bet that's the guy who didn't vote for Ichiro.

I think people are too obsessed with "unanimous" as if its some cherry-on-top HoF statistic that matters. It doesn't. If you're in, you're in. Who GAF?
Who cares? Only one baseball player has ever gotten 100% of the vote. This is one of those things where people just want to bitch because they have nothing better to do. Now how about dealing with the REAL baseball hall of fame scandal. That being Lou Whitaker not being in the hall.
100%. People are demanding to know who didn't vote for him to do what? Harass him? When only one player in history has gotten 100%.. The hate these days is insane.
We should vote again for great people from the past and restore their honor. Then we can have a more constructive discussion about whether or not there will be a unanimous vote.
Crazy seeing Alex Gordon and Ryan Braun already up for induction. Those were two of my favorite players growing up! Ill never forget thr Royals winning it all in 2015!
It really doesn't matter who votes or doesn't as long as you "get in". I mean, Ty Cobb and Ruth didn't get 100%, and nobody did until Rivera. So who cares? They're all in.
Hi iTalk! I was able to get in touch with the writer who didn't vote for Ichiro Suzuki. He gave me this poem to help explain why he didn't vote him in: "I'm the man who didn't vote for Ichiro Because I have a vendetta against Suzuki You may turn and ask me why that is so He got all the votes, except one from me He was a great player, a talented guy I'm not surprised he got first ballot with ease But I wasn't for him, there's a simple reason why - I hate Suzuki because he's..." For some reason it cut off here, something about him worried he'd get cancelled or something but I'm sure he had a great rationale behind it.
Unanimous Hall of Fame pick should be reserved for either the best at their position or clear top 25 player of all time, Ichiro was neither of these. Justice was done.
Jeter is very overrated. He had good offense but he was a horrible shortstop. Most of his gold gloves were completely undeserved. Ill forever say the only reason he got so many votes was entirely because of his popularity. Its unfortunate but the HoF voters vote partially based on popularity a lot. He definitely deserved it but he most certainly was not worthy of a unanimous election. He wasn't even worthy of the amount of votes he got. If you arent a primary DH, defensive stats should matter.
@But why is it so important? Does getting 100% mean the player is better than a player who got 99%? The HOF … and fans … would be much better off not releasing the vote count, since it doesn’t signify anything.
MLB Hall of Fame should eliminate what percentage did the player make it in as. If youre in, then youre in. Only release the percentage if a player didnt make it, to see if they are still eligible, or close to making it
How can there be ONE unanimous HOF, and it's a CLOSER? Like one of few reasons I can think why Ichiro didn't get 100%, and it has nothing to do with baseball. Ethnicity might have something to do with it. It's just a guess. They don't want Japanese player to be a 100% since it might make MLB look not as good? Probably another is, 'He never came close to a world series, only 2 playoff appearances.' I also feel they don't want a Japanese player to represent MLB.
even with Rivera there's one guy who didn't vote for him but he didn't want to be The One Guy so he decided to abstain from the voting. Honestly I suspect, given the voter in question hasn't come forward, it's a case of someone filling out their ballot too quickly and not noticing Ichiro was on the ballot
@@toddferguson6369It’s actually widely known Ichiro spoke good English. He just chooses to use an interpreter for interviews. Mike Cameron when he played for Seattle said he had conversations in English and Spanish with Ichiro. In fact, Ichiro just confirmed that his hall of fame speech will be in English.
It's a rare joyous occasion for Mariners fans everywhere. Unanimous or not our boys name is in lights for all time, where it belongs. That being said, I JUST want to talk to whoever voted no.
I thought he should have been unanimous until I learned that only one player in baseball history has been elected unanimously. As good as Ichiro was, many other players were better and they didn't get a unanimous vote.
Some baseball writers are jealous of the players they cover and/or felt slighted at some point. Those writers are petty, miserable souls. It's not a surprise one voted "no".
Why is this process anonymous? Baseball as a professional sport EXISTS because of the passion and loyalty of the fans, and yet not only are they shut out of the HOF process, they are told that it's none of their business how people vote? That's absurd. The ONLY reason Ichiro wasn't an unanimous vote is specifically because this person could give the middle finger to a legendary talent without anyone knowing. Enough of this. Make HOF voting public. Let these cowards stand up and defend their choices to the people who keep MLB in business: the fans.
It's amazing how many people praise Derek Jeter He's probably one of the most overrated players I have ever seen he wasn't great defensively yeah he could hit but he wasn't even great at that The only reason Jeter gets to praise he gets is cuz of the teams he played on and the leader that he was apparently but even that says coming to question the last few years so it makes me wonder why Jeter gets all this spray sure yeah he's a Hall of famer whether he's first ballot that I guess he was but to me not really I don't know I just don't see Jeter in the same light as everybody else personally
Griffey was also one shy of being unanimous. And Mariano Rivera, a closer, somebody that pitched one inning, his sole job was to get three outs. That's the guy that was unanimous, give me a break. Don't get me wrong, Rivera deserved to be in the HOF but unanimous?? Not Griffey, Not Ichiro, but Mariano? Just unbelievable.
We don't know if that vote went towards another that was thought to be HOF'er or they didn't vote for anyone. The writers aren't much of a factor anymore since there are so many metrics to figure out who deserves to be in or not. It seems to be a courtesy to the writers. Ichiro was a known to get in.
The Marlins were not only NOT a last place team in 2016, they were in a playoff hunt at this point in the season. Maybe they actually had a reason for playing Ichiro during that game in Colorado. Check your sources
My two cents: Whoever voted no wanted this kind of attention. The problem with these videos is that the individual knows what they did and what kind of backlash they'd get, and they're soaking up the attention. There's nothing you or anyone else could say that would make them regret what they did. The best course of action would have been to say nothing at all, but it's too late for that.
As a mariner fan, I find this extremely disrespectful like sure I’m happy he made it but not only is he my favorite player of all time, but I legitimately believe he is the best pure hitter baseball has ever seen not only that, but he broke waves for Japanese players and is now the first Japanese player to ever be inducted. He should have been unanimous He is not the only one that should’ve been mind you Many other players should have been but yea so fucked up
Its not the Major League Hall of Fame... Its the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame that makes what they did to Ichiro even more of a travesty. The need to reform this process into one more like the NFl where this kind of elitist personal crap isn't a factor.
One possible reason for the lone hold-out: Setting precedents. What if the Hall isn't supposed to be unanimous? What if Mariano Rivera was a freak accident? Right place, right time? It's not like every one of the 383 (correct me please) writers knew what each other was thinking, but if at least one person held to some arbitrary self-imposed rule (e.g. no first-ballot HoFers) ...
Proof? All I'm seeing is that its a suspended account. The dead link image shows a date before the announcement and ofc that means Ryan didn't take it as proof.
What if instead of having writers vote, who have historically and notoriously had personal beef vitriol against players for ego reasons, vote for incoming HOF players, we instead have the current living HOF players and coaches vote on them? They'd have more of an understanding of the impact these guys had since they've been thru the grind and have achieved a lifetime recognition reward already? Idk just food for thought
Now writer…you’re not in trouble, I just want to have a chat with you in this quiet alley where no one where hear us and my friends Bebop and Rocksteady will be with me also.

If you get a vote how do you not know who’s on the ballot I open up Facebook and immediately see who’s on the ballot for someone to say they had no idea ichiro was on the ballot is insane why give someone like that a vote when they don’t watch baseball
6:32 Mike Sweeney visits my hometown a couple times a year, and became friends with one of the high school coaches. I almost lost it thinking I'd had Sidney Sweeney's dad come to some of my HS practices😂😂😂😂😂
I think people are too obsessed with "unanimous" as if its some cherry-on-top HoF statistic that matters. It doesn't. If you're in, you're in. Who GAF?
Thank you! Besides, maybe that writer had a good reason.
Nobody from next years class should get in the hall of fame. Its for the hreatest players of all time end of story
The Ellen sting was an absolute bullseye
lol no chance anybody gets in next year all those guys belong in the hall of very good
This is true indeed
Who cares? Only one baseball player has ever gotten 100% of the vote. This is one of those things where people just want to bitch because they have nothing better to do. Now how about dealing with the REAL baseball hall of fame scandal. That being Lou Whitaker not being in the hall.
Agreed.
100%. People are demanding to know who didn't vote for him to do what? Harass him? When only one player in history has gotten 100%.. The hate these days is insane.
5:33 LMAO his subtle jokes are always the best
He gave me this poem to help explain why he didn't vote him in:
"I'm the man who didn't vote for Ichiro
Because I have a vendetta against Suzuki
You may turn and ask me why that is so
He got all the votes, except one from me
He was a great player, a talented guy
I'm not surprised he got first ballot with ease
But I wasn't for him, there's a simple reason why -
I hate Suzuki because he's..."
For some reason it cut off here, something about him worried he'd get cancelled or something but I'm sure he had a great rationale behind it.
Lmaoo
Jester wasn’t unanimous worthy, ichiro on the other hand, absolutely was
He really wasn’t
Unanimous Hall of Fame pick should be reserved for either the best at their position or clear top 25 player of all time, Ichiro was neither of these. Justice was done.
Why do you say Ichiro’s not Top 25? How come?
CC should not be in.
Jeter shouldn't be in either.
@@David-mg5jx Why do you say this please?
@@TiagoGomez-hb9te Schilling isn't in. And Schilling had a much better career.
@@David-mg5jx Politics
Jeter is very overrated. He had good offense but he was a horrible shortstop. Most of his gold gloves were completely undeserved. Ill forever say the only reason he got so many votes was entirely because of his popularity. Its unfortunate but the HoF voters vote partially based on popularity a lot. He definitely deserved it but he most certainly was not worthy of a unanimous election. He wasn't even worthy of the amount of votes he got. If you arent a primary DH, defensive stats should matter.
This is very much true indeed. Derek Jeter’s arguably the most overrated MLB Player of all-time…
Its b.s that Griffey, Jeter and Ichiro are not unanimous HOF’ers
What about better players like Ruth, Mantle, Mays, etc.?
@@ron88303Just because people made mistakes in the past doesn’t mean we should keep making the same mistakes.
Only release the percentage if a player didnt make it, to see if they are still eligible, or close to making it
Absolutey not. they need to have these writers fill out their names to be held accountable for stupid decisions.
Probably another is, 'He never came close to a world series, only 2 playoff appearances.'
I also feel they don't want a Japanese player to represent MLB.
Good thing ohtani forced them to have a Japanese player represent mlb at the top level😂
Simple, New York and Boston's media dominate the committee.
even with Rivera there's one guy who didn't vote for him but he didn't want to be The One Guy so he decided to abstain from the voting.
Honestly I suspect, given the voter in question hasn't come forward, it's a case of someone filling out their ballot too quickly and not noticing Ichiro was on the ballot
Don't bring race into it. Ted Williams only got 93%.
You made me google Sidney Sweeneys parents. Are you proud of yourself?😂
Believe it or not, when Shohei retires, he will not get unanimous either.
"UwU I am not like other Gurlz XOXO~ #lit"
is definitely how that one voter write.
You could say the same for the many players better for Ichiro (who he got more votes than). Ruth, Cobb, Ted, Stan, Mantle, Aaron, Mays, etc
This is a dumb take. Only 1 person has ever been unanimous.
Because of personal prejudices. Not lack of talent or heart.
It's perfectly petty unwritten rule of HoF voters. That is baseball.
I'm convinced this is a case of a writer filling out their ballot too fast and not noticing the name Ichiro was there.
It's a rare joyous occasion for Mariners fans everywhere. Unanimous or not our boys name is in lights for all time, where it belongs.
That being said, I JUST want to talk to whoever voted no.
I think the most likely explanation was that it was a mistake. Nearly 500 people, one of them is bound to leave off Ichiro's name by accident.
I thought he should have been unanimous until I learned that only one player in baseball history has been elected unanimously. As good as Ichiro was, many other players were better and they didn't get a unanimous vote.
You got me with the fake fact.
We (The Marlins) definitely did not deserve him. It made no sense that he was even there.
Japanese money. The Mariners sure wasted Ichiro’s talent
Not me pausing the vid to look it up 6:32
Some baseball writers are jealous of the players they cover and/or felt slighted at some point. Those writers are petty, miserable souls. It's not a surprise one voted "no".
This 100% should be something the fans have a say so in
Even if you added a yes vote from all the fans (which is highly unlikely), it still wouldn’t add to 100%. Do the math.
What are your issues with Derek Jeter please?
Not voting for ichiro demonstrates an obvious lack of qualification to participate in future ballots.
There’s always that one person who wants to go against the grain just because to stir up controversy and attention 🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Ichiro has the MLB season hit record with 262 hits. MLB has more than100 years history right?
I think thats his greatest achievement.
There are also 162 games now vs. 154 in the past.
yo the guy who didn't vote for him said how many double plays has Ichiro turned compared to chase utley what an absolute disgrace
Ex-PLAYERS, not fat, combover, slob “writers” who could never play for shit, should be doing the VOTING. This aggression will not stand, man.
Good to see one of our own get into the HoF. Congrats, Billy Wagner! Braves Country loves you! ❤
When there's one that didn't vote for him, then the writers obviously colluded.
Shame on Miami for not having Ichiro get 3000 at "home"-
The Marlins were not only NOT a last place team in 2016, they were in a playoff hunt at this point in the season. Maybe they actually had a reason for playing Ichiro during that game in Colorado. Check your sources
Baseball writers are almost as bad as the umpires. They think they are bigger than the game for some reason. I'll never understand it.
Under what scenario do you think he would have gotten 100%? Maybe just allow Mariners fans and Japanese to vote?
Voting-wise, Ichiro was treated better than all the greater players before him. Stop whining and enjoy the fact that he’s in.
One possible reason for the lone hold-out:
Setting precedents.
Mariano was 425/425 votes.
Did this man say how good Mariners had it, brother
We should make them defend saying no
I've never seen such a cowardly act 💀💀💀
Maybe we should stop leaving things up to journalists to decide.
If the fans voted it still wouldn’t be 100%, and would probably be a lower percent than he actually got.
Billy Wagner should have been a hof since he started
This. 100% this.
Mark Gooden is the guy who left him off. The only person he voted for was CHASE UTLEY. His explanation? “How many double plays did Ichiro turn?”
Proof? All I'm seeing is that its a suspended account. The dead link image shows a date before the announcement and ofc that means Ryan didn't take it as proof.
Do you think Ichiro cares? This is basically unintended engagement fodder for people to argue about
Sounds like they're still stupid enough to keep Jeff Perlman on the committee...
Jeter and Ichiro need to have a drink together😊
I would like to know who it was, but more importantly, the rationale behind this travesty.
Probably the same rational that all but one of the other inductees didn’t get in unanimously.
He will have some sad answer like “so and so wasn’t a first ballot”.
Ichiro was treated better than many greater players before him. Just celebrate that he’s in.
I hope we'll find out who the jerk voted no.
Hey Italk why do you say 53.7 like it's a bad thing that's the best subscribed percentage I've ever seen on you tube just wondering.
No not a bad thing!! Just a suggestion for those not subbed
No yankee should ever be unanimous or first ballot
Except Mariano Rivera
