Ahhh I´m returning to college in a week to sophomore year and I´m kinda out since this summer too, so I´m freaking out a little bit for having to explain it to people and email my teachers with the name/pronouns stuff since there are a lot of close minded people in my college. Any suggestios or advice? :(

Hey Thiago, my bad for getting back to you late, but I hope what I've got to stay can still be helpful! The first and biggest thing I can think of is to OWN IT. I know you said you're at a school with close-minded people, and I'm sorry that's the situation you're in, but being trans is awesome dude. To have the perspective we do on life because of our perspective on gender is unique and special. Maybe it's not something we scream to the world, but knowing that inside has helped me not think so much about what others think of me. Close-minded people are just that, close-minded, ignorant, and not open to learning. Their negative comments and whatnot are based off fear of the unknown, and they 100% don't know any trans people personally. I say it all the time, it's really not hard to understand why trans people exist and why they transition once you hear them out. At the same time, it's 100% not your job to educate people. I won't advise you to do that unless you want to, but what I can say is to be confident. Don't ask people to respect your name and pronouns, tell them to. This is your identity and who you are at your core, and your existence is not up for question. If you feel comfortable, whenever I introduced myself to class or my professors, I would say that I'm proudly trans. In the moment it can be scary, but then afterward it's a huge weight lifted off your shoulders and you don't need to hide from anyone. Haters will hate, and most likely they're dissatisfied with some aspect of their own life and are jealous of you living yours so openly and proudly. Do your best to ignore them, but otherwise the good people you meet (and you will meet them) will flock toward you. That's my advice, and I hope you can take some of it with you. I'm also happy to send you an example of what I emailed to my professors! Take care yo!

@@averywinterfox9549 ahhh thank you so much!! I did it and although it has been hard, it´s been good with most of the people and teachers, it feels awesome to be yourself
