Personal Agency! | Just Talk To Us | Episode 1
Welcome to the very first episode of Just Talk To Us! In an aim to increase and better the representation of transmasculine individuals, I've created a space to have meaningful conversations with others who share my trans-masc identity, but come from all different backgrounds and intersectional identities. The purpose of Just Talk To Us is to get into the trenches, but also back to the basics. I want listeners to recognize that trans people are just like everyone else - human beings on a beautiful search for identity, meaning in life, and connection. ~Avery
In this episode, two trans guys and friends, Avery and Carter, have an in-depth conversation on the importance of personal agency, growing up in the deep south, and the joy at stake.

I've been looking for more conversations by and for transmasculine people. I'm rather lonely as a blue collar trans person so it's lovely to connect with the community. I am delighted to have found this. Excited to see more!

Since I started questioning my gender and thinking about going on T I feared for my singing voice, I was scared and couldn’t find content on this topic, the ones I did found talked about how you would stop being able to sing at all and trans man without T are valid (because they were singers) and absolutely! But I was left with this feeling..I wanted to go on T, for a long time and have taken steps but not T.. I still want.. thank you for your fearless perspective!! On the other hand with this time passed I lost part of my connection with music.. after coming out even as “a lesbian”, I lost church, and some spaces I practiced and probably some skills, mental health also doesn’t allow for a lot of practice.. so in this cycle even if T affects, it might be several factors.. the other day I took my guitar out to restart and I also broke a string.. it is a common symptom! And found this video now, amazing one! Amazing work!

I feel as though Avery transitioned to try to solve all her problems because of how unhappy she was from not feeling pretty enough- like feeling like an ugly girl was a reason to turn into a boy- because feeling ugly and depressed isn’t a valid reason to become transgender. Avery was lost with no identity and then latched into this, most transgender feel trapped in the wrong body- and that’s now how Avery described their emotional experience, they just felt socially isolated bored & lost

Hi! Thanks for sharing. I’m non-binary amab and recently changed my name to Riven after exploring the possibility/being closeted for 3 years. I came out as a gay guy like 12 years ago. I don’t hate my given name either but sitting feeling misgendered being called the name and having some folks refusing to call me Riven now makes me feel less fond of my birth name. Still, I don’t unlike it and I also don’t dislike who I was. I just hope to better align with who I am inside with who I’m becoming outside and with what I am going to do and who I’ll be with. Sending positive vibes.

I support the Trans Community. I believe that Trans people should not be physically assaulted or killed for being Trans. I will use whatever pronouns they wish for me to use. I believe that Trans people should not be denied work just because they are Trans. I am against them being bullied. I have Trans friends. According to science at the end of the day you are whatever your skeleton and DNA says you are.

Because our government pushes this on our children and brings up sex & sexual acts and perversions in school when children shouldn't even be thinking of sex and gives them books that encourages them to follow this type of lifestyle. 😭😥 Because the United States Government is sick.

They are turning tomboys into confused individuals, thank goodness I was born in 65 because I just wanted to play sports I didn't want to wear a bra all I wanted to do was what my brothers were doing but you know what I didn't grow up and mutilate my body and back then schools counselors and governments didn't try to tell me that I had gender dysphoria. I like that you can see that your love for your mom and your relationship with her are valuable and complex, and in the end worth it. Nearly my entire family is transphobic and very conservative and religious, and yet I haven’t cut ties with them because I know they still love me in their understanding, despite only ever deadnaming and misgendering me and telling me I need to get this ‘ideology’ out of my head. I hope their hearts will change one day, with patience. I often think about what people like Gandhi or Mandela were able to achieve, the impossible, through patience and nonviolence - in a peaceful manner. Our relationship has much more to it than these disagreements, and even though they are very hurtful I choose to hope for the best. Living in another continent in the past 10 years has helped me (I’ve been transitioning for 9 years). My best wishes for you and your family.
