Interesting experiences. I was a student for one year in Japan, taught English for two and later returned for five years working at two different multinationals. The general policy in Japan for non-English-teaching jobs is Black/White/Foreigner need not apply. In the smaller of the two multi-nationals, my lovely Japanese coworkers used to tell me the company was too small to have foreigners, and I should really consider leaving (which I did). In the larger one, they would tell me that the company is getting pretty big now, so they really will not need foreigners any more. All the while these same people would be all smiles and sunshine to anyone visiting from abroad or when their weekly English teachers came. And don't get me started on how many apartments I had to go through to find one that would rent to foreigners....and this as an engineer with a solid salary and bank account.

I've had an incredible amount of racist experiences with Japanese. But I do have to say that I really never experienced it on trains over the years. Girls ended up falling asleep on my shoulder quite often (I'd only let the hot ones do that). I experience reverse discrimination when Japanese women hit on me on trains, which the Japanese men didn't care for very much. Some of the women were married (some to foreigners) and a few asked me to get off at their station. I never did because I want nothing to do with those sneaky fucks.

I think I've experienced the "Gaijin Seat" phenomena more often on buses than trains. One reason to explain the avoidance is that non east Asian people smell different. Non east Asians can have sweat which has more bacteria in it, leading to stronger body odour. Conversely stronger scented shower gels or deodorant also gets up Japanese people's noses.

To my knowledge (from a friend who visited) there are japanese people against foreigners but not exactly racism. And when they act as we would presume racist they don't mean to be racist it's most of the time not knowing how to react to foreigners so they avoid them as to not be insulting as they don't know how to treat us or a different in customs and we stand out as well as they can sometimes get to curious.

Okay, so let me explain something. The Japanese people are extremely conservative. And they really do not like if you don't try to learn their culture. I can more than guarantee you. This individual challenges stories did not try to understand their culture. When moving there. The problem with many Africans when they move to other places from the country, they try to bring their culture to where they're currently are staying or working. And that's not how reality works. If you are going to live somewhere, learn the people's culture, learn what's accepted and not accepted and adjust yourself accordingly. People always wanna scream the word racism, but they don't analyze their self before moving or going to someone else's culture. Don't scream racism if you do not. Try to learn b people's culture. That's a big problem with black Americans. An actual black Africans from Africa. Me being black and hispanic, we understand that. Us black hispanics don't tout racism Wherever we go, because we tried to adjust ourselves to that country's culture.

I never been to Japan, and these racism videos are not discouraging me from wanting to visit. But I did face discrimination in Bangkok in little Tokyo. I was told by a Thai security that he could not let me in, because their bars have a Japanese only membership policy. When I asked why they are so discriminative, he just told me to get out and stop making trouble. Later a polite Japanese girl cam to me, and said that they would have problems with the clientele if they saw any non-japanese people there, and said that Japanese people can be very narrow-minded. I'm a white Scandinavian, and It was certainly a new experience being exposed to racism. But still, I choose to believe that while racism exists it's not a representation of all Japanese.

There are racists everywhere, & obviously good & bad people everywhere. But from my experience Japanese are probably less racist than Westerners overall. In Western Countries I find that minorities often times tend to be the least racist. But again, because there are generally fewer of them, so they know how other minorities feel & also often times tend to share more similar or closer values. Japan often times ends up being slightly less racist than Western Countries, because it's their own country whereas they would be minorities everywhere else. Just my perception anyways.
