  • Everyone knows that an FPV simulator will never feel exactly like flying a real FPV drone, but that is just a fact because...gravity. We can simulate gravity electronically all we want, but the way our quads move is so dynamic that making it act perfectly is completely impossible. I have spent some time finding the best settings to emulate my freestyle quads in Velocidrone, so I want to share those with you. We will also cover some tips to help the experience be a little bit better, and how to tweak my settings to work for your rigs that might be a little different spec!

    Brotha, THANK YOU!!! I downloaded velocidrone a couple months ago, and started playing with it… Immediately became quite frustrated with the physics of everything. It was just completely unrealistic I couldn’t understand why a drone simulator would not appropriately represent GRAVITY!!! your video has re-instilled my confidence in the applications itself and I am super aware of the amount of time this took you to get to the point of being able to make a video like this and I just wanna say it was super helpful. Fun fact: propeller profile emulates the type of prop material. I.E profile 1 is the stiffer more aggressive (clear prop)style of polycarbonate where as 2 and 3 are softer and emulate more prop flex. Basically how the prop will sweep or bite the air 👍

      Oh man...i have them all, lol. DRL is fun, but the racing is a very different style specific to that kind of larger heavy racing platform and course layout. It' strange that weight affects floatiness.. weight never affects acceleration of gravity (at least physical says so, velicidrone seems has it's own point of view). Weight should affect acceleration done by props force - the thrust..

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it is more weight in relation to fling and air resistance. When a quad is heavier, it will have less of a tendency to float since the thrust to weight ratio goes down and air resistance is more easily overcome since the surface area doesn't really change. In a vacuum though, it would be totally equal :)

    Hey, thanks for the video! I'm going to start training in a simulator before buying my first drone. Could you recommend a not too expensive controller for this that will be compatible with mac os?

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are quite a few good options out there! It all really depends on what you plan to run as your first quad and if you would rather buy once up front or replace your radio at some point within the first year. The Radiomaster line up of EdgeTX radios including the TX12, Zorro, Boxer, and TX16S (in order of price) are always a good bet for use long term. Each of them come in various configurations for different prices and those decisions are really based around your budget and long term plans for the radio. If I were starting out I would want something with hall gimbals, ELRS built in, and in the $130 range since that combo will last a good long while and be compatible with lots of newer things. Whatever you do, I would stay away from the BetaFPV radios even though they are very budget friendly...they tend to not last long at all.

    • @v.yasn0o
      @v.yasn0o ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BaconNinjaFPV Thank you very much for the answer! Zorro looks the most interesting to me! The only problem is that so far the version with elrs is a bit difficult to buy, they are sold out on most sites

  • @DIProgan
    @DIProgan ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Even with these settings the thing is so damn floaty that me, Mr Noob, is getting discouraged and start thinking that I will have to crash real drones to get some actual training. OR that flying fpv is just too hard and not enjoyable at all. I keep feeling the urge to pogo-stick the ground to keep any semblence of control... OR that my tx16s sucks somehow

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol, the struggle is real with sims and I really hope you dont get discouraged. No sim is perfect, and there isn't any substitute for real world stick time...but we try to get close. If it is still floaty, you might try lowering the prop thrust some more until it doesn't. I suspect what you may be feeling is just the power of the quad and air mode being on. Real world quads can be a bit floaty too if their thrust to weight ratio is pretty high. One other thing to try is upping your camera angle so that the thrust vector is less downward and more forward. That should make the float less significant too, as long as you are cool with going faster. FPV is hard for sure, and that bouncing off the ground stuff is all part of throttle control. You will get there if you just stay on those sticks!! Never surrender!

    how do u get the nazgul on velocidrone

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      to get the nazgul you have to have the freestyle pack, which is an add on to the base game price :( It is ok though, because basically any freestyle frame with a true X layout will work just fine. The styling really doesn't do anything to adjust the feel of the quad, just make it look cool!

    What does prop wash mean?

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      the prop wash option in there means that the sim will emulate the real world appearance of prop wash. It is what happens when your props stall a bit in dirty air or in certain conditions and it causes the quad to bobble or shake a bit. The sim honestly isn't great at emulating it, but it will try if you move that slider up and tell it to.

    How do I switch from opentx to edge TX?

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The process is basically going through your models and backing them up to the SD card, then taking that SD card and making a backup on your computer. From there you can install EdgeTX companion on your computer and run through the flashing process over USB. Once you have that done, you can take your model backups and put them back on the SD card so you can move them back to your radio. I plan on doing a video about it at some point :)

    i just put edgetx on my radio, how do i enable the better simulator performance? Do i need to make a specific model with the baudrate set up to super high for 500hz? But with RF off there is no baud rate?

    • @BaconNinjaFPV
      @BaconNinjaFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      good question! The real magic of what EdgeTX is doing is with the mixer polling the sticks and timing on the USB connection. You will want to create a model (I usually copy one that I already like) and change it to have the module turned off during use. There isn't anything that I know of you should change about baud rates since you will just be using the USB connection which handles negotiating that its self. EdgeTX just polls the sticks more often and is better about consistently sending that data out over the USB interface than OpenTX was, and that is what makes it quicker :)
