    I used Velocidrone for around 3 months before I ever built a quad IRL. Now I compete at national events IRL with the help of the training and knowledge from Velocidrone.
    To all the people asking for pids or setups to make vdrone feel more like IRL just stop there. All the fastest guys on vdrone (they're usually the fast guys IRL as well) use defaults except for rates and camera angle.
    You need to change the way you look at Simulators. If you pickup someone elses IRL quad and try to fly it, it will NOT fly like yours. Just look at Velocidrone as another quad you need to learn. I have 2 quads I fly, my IRL identical racers and Velocidrone. When you use this mindset it will help you to become a better pilot and more versatile to change.

      Think of it like real life cars. They all drive different even though the controls are basically the same. Learn to wring the most performance out of one car and you'll be able to get to that point in a different car much sooner, and eventually you'll be able to drive anything at its limits. Same thing applies to quads or wings or whatever.
      What's that old saying? Practice makes perfect? It's kinda true...

    I was FINALLY able to get my Tinyhawk 2 RTF set up in BetaFlight to use the drone as the dongle, so I am now up and running in Velosidrone! I have to agree with all the experienced pilots’ suggestion to put in stick time in a simulator as you are starting out. I had my Tinyhawk 2 out several times and was so frustrated I was about to give it up. I finally got Velosidrone loaded and after about 4 or 5 hours on it took my Tinyhawk out for a spin. The difference was immense! I still have a LONG way to go, but not I’m thinking about my next move up in this amazing sport. My ultimate goal are the long range, cinematic scenery runs, like diving mountains and such. Thank you for your videos, they are monumental to many seeking to enter this complicated, but exciting, sport!

    • @aus1046
      @aus1046 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Velocidrone uses betaflight rates. They should be the same. As far as pids go, I'd recommend leaving those default.
      You should only change (IMO) rates, camera angle, battery size, props and enable true lens if your computer can handle it.
      Also a 144hz monitor is very helpful alongside a computer that can push atleast 144hz.

    you have to try this other drill for putting things together
    its the Milwaukee 12v clutched impact
    when you use a impact to tighten things it doesn't put so much torque to the user. and its clutched so you can set it and when it keeps hamering and doesn't move your done. you can hold it literally with 2 fingers when even on max settings. they are like $100. dude try it out.
    also, it works way better than a drill and using the clutch on. it still bites the fastener and spins stuff, but with the impact you don't have to hold it at all

    That was great Joshua. I wonder what you could do if you got obsessive, and practiced continuously for a long time? You look very controlled. The Kevin Turner's of the world also look very controlled as they do stuff mind blindingly fast. You'd do great if you really dedicated yourself to racing. But you fly great. And the sim seems so valuable that unless you're rich, with lots of quads and people to go get your quad and start fixing while you keep practicing, the simulation would be essential. I fly airplanes, and I've found that for keeping competent at flying instruments, low end simulators like Microsoft's X, work great. There, even though it doesn't feel like the plan, the instrument scan, and the procedures are all the same, and that's the hard part. I learned to fly by you on Freeflight. Thanks. Learning what I did on a real quad would have been stupid!

In DRL I am always overshooting my lines and struggling to not to either climb above the best height or accidentally drop to the ground. It's frustrating.
    I do ok on the DRL tracks where I can run wide open throttle all the time, but I suck badly on tight courses where speeds are lower and throttle plays a bigger part.

    Here's a question I don't think anyone else has asked:
    Since most (all?) simulators have rectilinear 'cameras' (straight lines look straight), and quad FPV cameras are all fisheye - does that affect your perception of the course in any way when you transition from sim to real?
    Similarly, does transitioning from the computer screen to goggles affect anything?

      Try Velocidrone with True Lens turned on, if you computer can handle it. It's a resource hog, but worth it, IMO. Depending on the track, I'll turn all the pretty stuff off and run at 800x600 so that I can have it turned on. I figure that's better than my goggles and it makes it feel the most real.

    Do you think you would do better with your freestyle rig and rates instead of changing to a race quad and rates?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely not. Lower rates for racing give much much MUCH more control. The only thing they can't do is snappy moves, which freestyle pilots want.

    i have to agree, as a person that actually got better flying a simulator first, learning the lines, flying a simulation of a course, you will definitely be better prepared for what ever flying you go do in real life. But just remember, your battery...it actually runs out of power in the really real world :P Also it doesnt matter which sim you fly, just go out and try them all!!! One last point, there are enough models in most sims, you may find the qwad you want to buy in the Sim, is available in the Real world! I'm ready to take you on Joshua Bardwell.....Come at me BRAH!! Hi Josh, cheers from Roma Italy from a new subscriber!, i'm an absolute beginner on drones world and i'd like to practice first on a simulator before to jump i the "real game"(or just to understand if this will be my next best hooby!), so, watching your amazing videos here i've decided to buy a betafpv lite radio and one (or both) simulator between velocidrone or liftoff. the question is: i have a macbook pro M1 and i can't find over the web any indications if both rc controller and simulators works properly on an Apple silicon mac. any suggestion? thanks in advance. Hey JB and/or Comment Section, I'm really struggling and could use any help. I've been dipping my feet into FPV for a few months now, and I am KILLING it in the simulator. Whenever I go to actually fly the drone though, it just moves through the air much faster and the tuning doesn't even feel remotely the same as it does in the simulator (under Velocidrone's "Advanced Drone Setup"). I am uncomfortable and constantly nervous flying it in real life, while I rarely crash or touch any unwanted surfaces in Velocidrone. Does anyone have any tips?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're ready to move to the real thing. Stick time on the real thing is the next step. You won't be as comfortable as in the sim but the sim is never exactly the same thing as real life. Start in a wider-open area where you have room to move without crashing into things and work your way up.

  • @MidnightMarrow
    @MidnightMarrow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah it seems like simulators have the basic "controls" down but they never seem to have the power and gravity as a real life kwad. They seem to feel much more floaty and lack that punch in reality which I feel makes it easier to fly the real thing than simulated.

    It would be nice if they added this game to Steam. I have a pretty big library of games and it and origin are the two things I install first after updates and drive when I build new PC's. 😁
