if you ride the train you have to pay the fare or go to prison that's the way it is nothing is free in life.
Pay the fare. There are far too many people not paying fares on the metro these days. I see it every day. EVERY DAY.

This is like sneaking into a movie theater and watching a movie without paying, then getting mad about getting caught. Kinda like that, but a bit more bummy, lol. Just pay the damned fare.

Police brutality needs to be addressed. But riders all need to pay the fare, which has nothing to do with race. Use IDs to issue fines and be done with it.

I cant ride the train without seeing atleast 1 fare jumper, guess what color they always are? No one ever stops them, even seen em do it in front of metro cops. But the turnstiles do make a beeping noise now, that does absolutely nothing but annoy legit riders.
If this guy is smart enough to go to Howard, then he should be smart enough to not break the law. Just pay the damn fare and you wont have to worry about getting yourself in these situations

If it happens that dark skin people are committing the crime more than light skin people, then it's no racial thing at all! It's only simple mathematics!

Oh my God, WMATA needs to get over themselves. The Maryland/DC metro area is already pricey to live in, so why blow up on someone just skipping a station fare? Plus, the fare for buses and trains has gone up in the last few years, and of course it would be harder for people to pay for it.
Revenue loss caused by fare evasion is a contributing factor in inflating prices and budget readjustments. One bus, the 'X2' tallied almost $2m in fare evasion in 2021. So, I, as a paying customer will most likely pay more to compensate for people who feel entitled enough not to pay.
We need to do better and carry ourselves with a bit more dignity, and if nothing else, break the stereoptyes against us that give credibility to these responses from law enforcement who see an open season opportunity for escalating brutality.
I don't know about anyone else, but I am not a fan of law enforcement, so I don't break the law in hopes of minimizing my chances of negative contact.
It hasn't always worked, but one thing is for sure...I won't be getting tackled for trying to jump over a gate like an idiot to avoid paying a few dollars just to bum a free ride, lol.
