- Not to far from Pattaya is a land known for waterfalls, bounties of fruit, lots of rain, and most of all Gem Stones. I travel from Pattaya to Chantaburi in search of all these things but today we enjoy a bit of the local area and learn what we can along the way before getting down to business.

Love Chantaburi! Visited not too long ago and spent some time on a farm and up into the hillside with many waterfalls. That hotel is spotless and new with great price. It’s all you need!

Chantaburi looks like a nice place to go for the day and the waterfall spot in Thailand. I like the pork or chicken and mourning glory dish at the restaurant. Stay safe and enjoy your travel there in Thailand.

I remember back in the mid 80's Thais selling gem stones in old square tin's on Pattaya beach. I had bought an uncut one that I lost over the years. My friend's teased me saying I bought a broken piece of glass, ha ha ha.

Did you see the gem trading on the streets? 20 years ago the buyers would come to Chantaburi and setup table on the streets. The sellers (miners and diggers) from around the area, and also Cambodia, would come to town with bags of gems and trade in Chantaburi. Fascinating.

Good to see you back in the saddle again, Lucas! I can imagine one might run into problems leaving the country or entering another with big bags of gemstones unless you're already a licensed dealer or importer/exporter. Probably best to do some due diligence before traveling internationally with bulk gemstones.

All that I suggested is that if one plans to leave Thailand with bags of gemstones, whether personally mined or purchased wholesale, that they know and comply with the law to avoid problems. the stones from africa are poor quality
but the thai end is that they perfected a technique using glass to polish up the african stones to look good!

30 yr back i wanted to buy ruby and sapphire up by the Burma border was the place. I bottled it as I know nothing about gemstones.
Interesting to me how much signage has English added. When I was there 50 years ago there was almost no English when you traveled.
