    Based on some of the comments received, I want to add that I can't stand to look at finger numbers all over my music! I don't write in complete fingerings for myself, it paralyzes me. I say this all the time in my long form tutorials. My hands know where to go, just a fingering here or there is all I need. However I wanted to share the complete fingering here with you, as I believe there is some value in occasionally sharing this sort of thing. I am extremely wary about sharing fingering and I've said that before, too. It's something very personal and should be worked out by the player. Copying someone's fingering is a terrible approach to learning the piano and I cringe at the excess markings put in scores by editors. The sheet music in this video is not my own copy. I made an extra copy to mark it in for you. I hope it's helpful. I've a longer video on fingering, as well as a tutorial for this C-major Invention. I'll leave the links here: th-cam.com/video/j9f4AAgs18E/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/vuRQqPDg19c/w-d-xo.html

    Penny, although I have already written it, apart from the fact that you are a virtuoso pianist, connoisseur and composer of baroque music and in that sense, a worthy successor to Mr. B, you are also a very hardworking and patient educator. Your channel definitely deserves a lot more subscribers and views, because your tips are understandable and useful. Thank you very much and good luck in your future work on videos 🎵🎹❤️🎶

    • @pennyplaysbach

      Thank you, Agnes!❤ My TH-cam analytics informs me that over 80% of my watch time comes from non-subscribers. I suppose I could start asking people to subscribe in my videos, but I figure people will click the button if they find value in the content, and I don't like slick sales vibes. I want things to be entirely about the music. I do really wish that for the number of views I have, I could have higher retention and subscribers. I think I'm just kind of seen as odd, or ultra different and atypical, and folks might generally prefer traditional content. Being left-handed, among other things, I don't fit in in the world and so I can't do things in a traditional way and it's a setback, in a way, but yet at the same time, I think I have a magic key to Mr. B's music that others do not. I know I get some comments telling me these things and it can be quite sobering. I just want to create and live simply. I am trying so hard. While I love being a pianist, I would not wish it on anyone. It is very hard. My teacher, Constance Keene, used to say that you don't pursue music unless you'll burst without it and I will surely become a burden on society if I cannot create. Thank you for watching and encouraging me!💖

    I always wondered. Do you count silently when you play?

    • @pennyplaysbach
      @pennyplaysbach  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If, by count, you mean to say the finger numbers as one plays, then I would say no, however, for early level students, it's an excellent thing to practice saying the finger numbers out loud, slowly and hands separately. More common would be to count the beats out loud (e.g. 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and) and this is more common to players of any level, though advanced players tend to only do that when practicing really difficult rhythms or changing meters. Personally, when I'm learning a piece, even after many years of study, I still do a lot of counting out loud, but when I perform a piece, I absolutely am not counting out loud or even silently in my mind. Performing in an ensemble, however, can be a whole other thing, and when one is resting for many measures, for example, it is essential to count quietly. If it's helpful to count, then by all means do so!

    I'm curious to know how you handle the "thumb pass"? It's not very visible on the videos! In Polish piano technique, we simulate a passage from above (so that the thumb does not bend).
