Great explanation, but huge safety no no, please don’t open up an electric appliance when it’s plugged in to 120 or 220v mains. Touch the wrong part and you may get a shock, in some cases it could be fatal.

Thanks for this video. I live in Jamaica - where we run on 50Hz like the UK, but only 110v - closer to the US 120v. I hardly use my clipper (a Wahl) that I purchased in the US because of how loud it is. After trying many times to adjust it with no success, this video finally explained why. I won't bin the clippers again, but I'm wondering how many other appliances in my house are under-performing for the same reason.

Does the 50hz damage the clipper?
I used mine like that for about six hours in total running time, I thought I bought a faulty clipper until I googled it

Question, can I still use them in Europe? They say rated for 110 on the clipper, will it just be noisy or will it start a fire?

  • @amoyzegh

Thank you sir for this video learned a lot of things, but I had a question I have a converter I tested the wahl pilot works fine no noise, but on the corded wahl premium senior it does a huge noise as if it's the cordless senior a bit louder.
I tried to adjust the power didn't do anything, tried to open it up and push on the moving arm next to the big screw saw a video on it the guy had the same noise as my corded senior. But still nothing, I also find yours a bit noisy compared to videos I'v seen I know how the legend sounds so when I saw somebody comparing his clippers (he had the same corded senior premium and it was almost the same as a corded legend).
So I tried to contact some barbers that have the corded wahl senior and someone told me it was the spring, but when I opened it removed the blade, there was no spring only the cutting blade holder, with some sponge to hold the hair from entering the clipper. When I tried to put it on while there was no blade it made I crazy sound I was shocked, I don't dare to put it back on.

I pushed on the moving arm while it was on and the sound disappeared should I tighten it up with the two screws on the side?

Saudi Arabia uses 220V at 60Hz UK outlet.
Same voltage and freq. as 220V 60Hz in the Philippines (US outlets), South Korea (Schuko outlet), Some states in Brazil (NBR 14136 OUTLET), Guyana (UK outlet), Antigua and Barbuda (US outlet) and Montserrat (US outlet), etc.

50Hz clock will run very fast at 60Hz.
Try 50Hz clock radio fro Europe or UAE on Saudi Outlets.
Got trouble operating European appliances on 220V 60Hz countries such as the Philippines?
I'm from the Philippines too and I'll buy Saudi or South Korean appliaces to the Philippines.
No problem if your device labels "50Hz/60Hz".

the moving arm is not heat treated properly its not as strong as it should , take your clipper to iron monger and ask him to make it stronger by heat treatment and then for in EU use a normal 220v to 120v and little tuning and it will work 100% ...and for the US heat treatment tun it and just plug it and it will work .... this is the problem that no one know about it. and stop westing money on transformers .

    I'm still puzzled.
I have a UK plug Wahl Super Taper, although it does say Made in USA, but it's 230V/50hz.
I'm using it in Portugal, which is also 230V/50hz, but I still get the noise. I've cleaned the entire thing, tightened the screws, and adjusted the powerscrew but it won't fix.
    Any ideas?
