We returned back a week ago from Thailand. I was incredibly shocked about the increased prices. Especially for clothing. It’s almost the same prices or even more as in Germany. Chatuchak Market increased there too. Of course I recommend bringing a Hoodie or a Sweater. Especially for the chilled trains. If you have hiking plans I recommend solid shoes to avoid insect-, spider- or any other bits. I was bitten by a spider, because of not wearing the right shoes. Believe me, it wasn’t fun at all. Wish you an amazing time in Thailand.

Good advice for the newbie's. I've been coming to Thailand since 2011, and since my first trip I have never packed bags to check with the airlines - strictly carry-on only. One note here, if you find several items and your luggage doesn't have space, bags are cheap and can be found in shops all over Sukhumvit. Come lite and enjoy your stay.

this is informative. it is usual YT for revenue. i lived in Thailand part-time for about 9 years.
i could not just simply do a carry on. you should and have to do the plastic wrap of you checked bags. one buddy of mine did see a rip..notified security. they did not even check...
continue on and party in Thailand. better that then 10-15 in a thai cell/brick.
one think i sure do carry in condoms. the only ones they had..i left in 2017 were asian brands.

All Thai people welcome tourists of all nationalities and religions, no matter who you are, where you come from, if you come to travel with quality, respect Thai people, respect Thailand. Thai people will help each other to maintain the good trust of tourists. Help each other to provide good service to tourists in a friendly manner. Smile, cheerful, peaceful, safe, clean, equal for all classes. Thailand also has many interesting places to explore. Suitable for tourists of all levels of your hopes. "Don't bring any jacket!": for Thailand of course; but when you come from and return to a cold country (Northern Europe for instance) you cannot leave home and go to the airport in short, T-shirt and flip-flops in the middle of winter. On the other hand: not to take tons of summer cloths from home and rather buy cheaper and nicer ones in Thailand is a very good idea; and the rest of your recommendations is wise. Thank you.

Good advice on what not to bring. I found it difficult to find over the counter sleep meds, like Tylenol or Advil PM, in Thailand. I also found that sunblock is expensive and not the same quality in Thailand, so I'll bring extra tubes of it next time. Thanks for the informative videos.

    • @Kwippy
      @Kwippy ปีที่แล้ว +2

Tylenol you can easily get over the counter. Although Advil PM isn't available as such, the two active ingredients are widely available. But then they are not actually sleeping meds are they. Actual sleeping meds like Ambien, Dormicum you can get with prescription, you can't get them over the counter obviously.

If you plan on entering any of the 42,000 temples in Thailand, bring a pair of long pants and sleeved shirt as shorts and tank tops are a no no in temples. Have at least one pair of shoes that are easy on/easy off as many places (again temples) including people's homes will require removal of shoes. This also makes it easier when passing through airport security. I always bring a dry bag to do my laundry ... place clothes in bag, along with detergent and water and shake for a few minutes, dump, rinse twice, and hang to dry. I live here, so haven't owned a jacket in years, but you might want to bring a light rain jacket between April and October.

Good advice, thanks. First came to Thailand in 1997, and after several more visits settled in to live here in 2004 and have traveled all over southeast Asia as well. So whether you come as a tourist or to stay long term there are definitely things you don't need to bring. For clothes the only time and place it gets "cold" is in the north during November-February, especially at night or if you go up in the hills. A light fleece jacket or a thin sweater/pullover top is enough for that, although you might see Thai tourists dressed for the North Pole because anything less than 20c is "freezing" for them. Oh and the other time you might get cold is inside an airport, airplane or shopping mall where the aircon is on turbo setting. Just going to see a movie in a cinema I always bring an extra layer. As for long pants, I only have one pair if I need to go to Immigration or other formal visit. Some night clubs and posh bars have a dress code, but screw that they are too snobby and expensive anyway. Same for shoes, only really necessary if visiting a government office if you want to be polite. Let's put it this way - in over 18 years living here I have only worn long pants or shoes about a dozen times, otherwise I live in t-shirts, shorts and flip flops almost every day. Also don't be paranoid about "things you cannot get in Thailand". With very few exceptions almost everything you may want or need can be found here. The miracle of worldwide distribution, for example, means you can buy European cheeses, Chilean wine, and Arnott's crackers and Vegemite in a supermarket. As the old saying goes regarding what to pack for your trip, "When in doubt, leave it out".

Once more, great sensible advice from Arsen ! I will add that for travellers who love shopping, the less you bring the more you can take back. For women : don't bring expensive shoes as they will get ruined walking on the uneven pavements/rain etc... and shoes are super cheap and cute in Thailand. I take an almost empty suitcase and an empty nylon carry on inside the suitcase as I stock up on fabrics for my sewing back home. And if you forget to pack a winter jacket for the trip back into a cold country, don't worry !you can also buy them in mbk or platinum mall.

SPOILER: If you are planning to go to the northern Thailand especially if you are staying in the mountains you will need a jacket, long pants and hiking boots, at night in the mountains the temperature may drop as low as 5C-10C (40F-50F). If you plan to visit national parks (Kao Yai etc ) I recommend long pants because of jungle leeches as well as leech socks with hiking boots.

Well, it depends, if travelling from COLD COUNTRIES during the winter months to Thailand, you still have to pack a jacket or two (not for Thailand). In another scenario, even if you come from a tropical country visiting Chiang Mai, if you were to visit Doi Inthanon (Thailand's highest mountain) or other mountainous destinations during Nov-Feb months, you'll probably need to bring a jacket or two as well. I'll ALWAYS pack a jacket or two even if I travel to Thailand (or any tropical countries around South-East Asia) as even the airport & inside the air-plane can be cold during rainy season. Other advises are sound for newbies, except the jacket one.

I am from an cold environment I never bring a heavy jacket. I just pack a sweatshirt for my return home. Always can buy shampoo or soap in any store there is really no need to bring them for a long stay of 30 to 60 days. I really have no problem taking my medications long as I have them documented by my doctor.

Is Travelex card accepted in Thailand? Is it useful for usual transactions in the shops / restaurants?

    • @Newboybe

I don't know if Travelex cards are accepted in Thailand. But Thailand is a cash only society. You can pay with creditcards in the big malls and and shops but when you buy streetfood and go to the markets it's cash only.

Very difficult to find in Thailand. Only in the tourist areas, but you don't find very many. If you are small or medium size, you can buy all over.... If you are big size.... Make sure you have enuff clothes. And when you do shop.... The sizes aren't the same and you'll have to go at least one size up.... So you'll need looking for 3XL (or maybe 4 XL)
Just bring enuff clothes to last you about a week or so. The are little laundry shops every where. (Don't use hotel laundry service) if you drop it off early enuff you can get it back the same day as but usually, drop it off one day and pick up the next day. It's fast, easy, and cheap. Just use a shop that charges by weight and not charge you by each piece of laundry.

You forget that I also need to dress for the travel to my airport at home. At winter it can be -20C and a thick jacket is necessary. And there is no wardrobe at my home airport. So my winter clothes must follow me to BKK.
