    Jellyfin handles DLNA (over local network) perfectly well, which I'm not sure if Navidrome is even capable of. Being able to use home server to stream music to my network streamer is a godsend.

    Noticed you have two separate libraries for kids, and adult TV and movies. I know everybody likes to do things differently but incase you didn't know jellyfin has a parental controls option to hide media with certain ratings, tags, etc

    • @javaman2883
      @javaman2883 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      You are correct about the parental controls. Here's why I prefer the seperate libraries. Some kids TV shows are not rated properly on automatically. I've put stuff on the shared library to find out later my kids could not see it was there because it was rated PG. Another case was because it was unrated, which I could not change parental control settings because some adult movies are also unrated. So by having their shows/movies in a seperate library I have better control of exactly what shows up and can ensure they can actualy watch what I've put on their for them. Secondly, having a bunch of kids cartoons in my library meant I was skipping past their shows looking for something for my wife and I to watch. Having my library seperate from their's makes it cleaner with less effort.

    • @javaman2883
      @javaman2883 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I also make a seperate loggin for music. I tried other streaming servers, but like Jellyfin for my music too. However, when I search for a movie, I was getting a bunch of music in the results, even though it was in a seperate library. By moving music library to another login, if I'm logged into my main profile, I do not see music. If I login to the music profile, its all there.

      @apolloeosphoros4345 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      if you go with the single library approach and use tags to hide stuff, be aware that Jellyfin's auto generated thumbnails will still potentially be drawn from hidden content. gotta love a gory thumbnail for TV shows when logged in as the "kids" user. yeah not ideal. separate libraries seems better

    I been using Jellyfin app on my phone to stream music videos from my server while I'm on the road. Works great as long as I have a internet connection. It also helps to convert the media to AV1. I don't watch to video while driving but if I like a song that is the preferd way I archive my music and I can create a playlist.

Nevertheless, it's a heartbreaking reminder that I still have a broken Drobo with 10+ years' worth of data on it including my Plex movies and music. So, moving forward may be I will try this. I wouldn’t say it’s better.. it still has the weird playlist thing that it mixes music, movies, tv shows (if you have plays list of those)
    It doesn’t have a good and easy way to handle queue and so on
    They said they are trying to polish the movies/TV part and then (I guess on version 10.9?) they start polishing music.. and finally they will fix the comics/manga/books category

    Hi there! I know this video is a year old but I was wondering how Jellyfin handled large music libraries compared to Navidrome? I have about 960gb that I'm backing up and moving to my home sever, and I've read from folks online that Navidrome is much better with larger libraries than others.

    In both 'stream your music' videos there was mention of having to fix your library. Does this mean there is a Picard video on the way?
    I have to go through my collection and retag a bunch of stuff, in particular a lot of my music files do not have the Album Artist tag filled in so they do not get displayed when viewing the collection by Album Artist and when viewing the collection by Artist there is a lot of extra scrolling because of the tracks with guest artists getting their own grouping. I don't know how consistently the Album Artist tag is included in the MusicBrainz database, but I don't think it is that hard to add additional tags manually when doing the album lookup, it's been a while since I have used Picard.
    Also do these streaming solutions able to factor in the replaygain tags. I would assume the volume adjustments would have to be done on the streaming server.

    I'm currently using a Plex server with NVDEC acceleration for my video and music streaming, which has worked awesome so far. Are there any advantages Jellyfin has over plex or do they both achieve the same goal relatively similarly? Also GPU acceleration is very important to me as I have a lot of 4K blu-rays and multiple kids in the house, so that's a must.

    • @TeganGibby0
      @TeganGibby0 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know this is an old comment, but in my experience running both Jellyfin and Plex, once it's set up, Jellyfin handles all of that a lot more flawlessly. I've had a couple odd niche issues with transcoding very specific stuff - H.264 10-bit comes to mind, since it's not an actual standard - but other than that, it's worked pretty flawlessly on everything I've tried. Audio transcoding has had some trouble for me but I'm not really concerned about that since even streaming something ridiculous like 24-bit 96kHz FLAC is pretty trivial bandwidth-wise compared to video. Some of the options work a bit differently than similar Plex options but once you get used to them, it's totally fine.
      Also, Jellyfin doesn't have any limitations (the software is entirely free, as in beer and as in freedom) and doesn't have weird ads and anti-features like Plex has been adding even to their paid memberships.

      Literally this. I dual-ran Plex and Jellyfin just so I could have playlists sync between mobile and desktop easily(Couldn't seem to get any navidrome apps that let me sync because often times there'd be a mobile app, but not a desktop version - and I wanted a dedicate app/program on mobile and desktop, not a web browser) - While the plexamp desktop app could do that, it was absolutely awful, clearly designed for mobile and desktop just being an afterthought. Then I found FinAmp and fell in love, just went ahead and dismantled my Plex docker altogether now since everything I do revolves around Jelly now
