    I've had Audible since before Amazon acquired them; Member since 2004. And I was on the OLDER plans where you actually got a ton of titles. So I'm sitting on slightly over 700 books; that said, the one problem I've run into recently is I had two books I purchased way back when.. deleted from my account. They are no longer available through Audible due to a rights issue or something. Well, shit, I paid for them back then! This was enough to convince me to look for a solution. I think people hate physical media and all of that, but it is something I think about when you "buy digital" because they sure can take it back (had it happen to me on the PS4 as well). If I can store this stuff and never lose it? I'm all about it. Thanks for the heads up.

    Really liked this vid. Covered something I haven't seen anywhere else on a topic I actually find useful. I never used audible because I didn't have a good conversion path. I want to own, store and archive!. Now I can!

    Docker is not supported on the Synology DS model I own. I've been using Plex + Audnexus + Prologue for over a year now and it works great! One advantage over this setup to Audiobookshelf, is the listing of the Narrator - this is handled by Audnexus.

      Some modes of synology don’t show docker as supported but you can still install the docker application package. You can download the package manuall and then do a manual install in dsm. That’s the case for me with my 418+play

      Same for me. I know how to pull my books from Audible using Libation. I have Plex and I know how to set up a library and add the books - but Plex doesn't work well for M4b files (doesn't show chapters etc) so I was looking for an alternative to put on my NAS. However - this completely lost me. It looks like a great solution but the instructions are not step by step enough for me unfortunately.

  • @majorgear1021

    I got this working on my Mac and on a Raspberry pi using v2.10. My TrueNAS server only had v2.9 , with crashed when downing the 386 episode Revolutions podcast episodes! It seems to be that v2.9 doesn't handle badly formatted data as well as v2.10 does. So for now, I'm going to run it on my rpi but store files on the NAS.
    I haven't decided if I want to use Plex and Prologue together to serve the files to my iPhone , or if I want to try the ABS iOS app.
    it did well on the Audiobooks downloaded from Audible except it doesn't like some of the author names. I have authors like "Phd." which is probably where it had trouble parsing a name that included Phd.
    Overall I like it, and I appreciate the video walking though setting it up!

      @Ven0mstrike 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @majorgear1021 neither of them are a perfect solution, but for my use case, chronicle was the better solution. Chronicle does have one minor issue of losing progress data once in a while, but that may be a problem with plex syncing rather than the app itself. If you are looking for organization, filtering, and fetching podcasts, then audiobookshelf is better.

      It doesn't happen often, but sometimes, authors or their publishers will pull their titles from the platform for various reasons. Usually, it means only discontinued sales and purchased books can still be downloaded or streamed. Other times, the book becomes completely unavailable and you are left with nothing. Happened to an entire book series i purchased and lost before i could back it up locally.

      I disagree.
      I have Plex and Audiobookshelf set up in app containers on my TrueNAS SCALE server, and have SMB drive mapping set up. For movies, TV shows, and music, yes Plex is quite excellent. For Audiobooks... ugggg.... there has been a feature request for full audiobook support in Plex since January, 2013, yet the powers-that-be seemed to be focused on other things. While the 2.8.1 version of AudioBookShelf still has areas of improvement, it was far superior to the alternative Emby that I was trying out, especially when pulling in the metadata from Audible.
