    The twins were super talented. The fact that they could all sing 3 part harmony at such an early age with out being taught screams talent. Robin was born to perform.

    If you haven't seen it, "Wine and Women" is a transition where the twins got their big boy voices. The video of "Spicks and Specks" also shows their humour. In their bio one of their promoters said Robin used to be such an extrovert that he actually scared people. As a teen he was very self conscious about his looks and even said he knew he was "ugly" but had a "characterful face and tried to look nice". Barry was always promoted as the good looking one, and he was at that age, but I saw a magazine at the time that called Robin a "gopher"! Hurtful. The Hither Green train wreck at 17 also left him scarred. He had to witness deaths and on the spot amputations and narrowly missed death himself when a train rail missed his head by inches. Barry said he was a hilarious kid but the train wreck brought out the pathos in him. Regardless, he still had a wicked wit. Robin said himself that the incident never left him.

    Thank you, Harri! I'm so glad someone finally reacted to the young Brothers Gibb to get a glimpse of how talented they've always been. Robin was definitely funny and demonstrative when he was young. I don't think as he got older he became more shy. My understanding is that he was at odds with Barry over control of the music. Robin became more serious. Barry was just Barry. And Maurice became the 'go between' and the funny Bee Gee. Regardless, the talents of all 3 of them just became better and better. Loved your reaction to this video!

    Robin was an absolute riot in interviews though even as he aged. He was more serious on stage for sure.

    When Robin was in his teens he was in a terrible train wreck along with his girlfriend and many people died, he said he tried helping some. I think it changed his life probably PTSD he said it effected him for many years. Just a thought... I love the Bee Gees they are my favorite group. Thanks Hari

    Yes, they knew!! Their story is one of the most fascinating and inspirational I’ve ever heard. Their father played instruments and their mother sang. The boys were surrounded by music. Their mother said you could hardly get Barry to speak, but he always had a song for anyone who asked. Their father couldn’t pay the rent, but managed to bring a tv home, and neighbors said Barry was glued to it. The first time he saw someone (probably Tommy Steele) sing on tv, he pointed and said that was what he was going to do.He seemed to have an international vision, because he knew about American singers, so why couldn’t people in other countries know him? He was 8 and the twins were 5. Maurice said Barry told them he was going to be a pop star, and he asked if they could be pop stars, too. Barry said yes, and he was the big brother and knew everything, so they really believed him. They started working to make it happen. Barry’s gifted ear must have known he could sing as well as singers on records and radio, and then the twins had that natural ability to harmonize, but the passion and work ethic was equally important, as was having supportive parents who even let you drop out of school at 13 or 14, so seasoned pros ready to tackle London and the world by 1967 when signed to NEMS. A girl said she broke up with 14yo Barry, and he told her she’d be sorry, because he was going to be famous. He was asked about whether he really believed it, and he said yes. His song for Celine Dion IMMORTALITY describes his passion and dream. “I will make them all remember me” through the music left behind. Yes, Robin is fascinating to watch. He clearly believed in himself as an entertainer, but was known to be an extreme introvert. They are absolutely fascinating! Please react to them singing Bob Dylan’s song BLOWIN IN THE WIND, with Maurice’s gift of harmony at its best.

    robin was quite a character at that age. he was definitely comfortable in front of the camera with his mugging and all. it's pretty amazing how they had 3 stages to their career,and each one just increased their fame. much like the beatles with their mop tops,psychedelic,and rebellious eras.

    I think Robin changed after he got in the train accident in England when the train derailed. There were a good number hurt and some killed. He and his girlfriend (later wife) climbed out a window with minor injuries. His dad and Barry got him from the hospital, he had a concussion, but he told them about seeing the bodies and trying to help the injured until help started arriving. And then he just tried to comfort and care for his girlfriend.

    What's amazing is that they were just born with that talent and thank goodness they were in an environment that encouraged them to pursue it. I've read that they never learned to read music. They did everything by ear.

    Their parents had been in a band in their younger days, Barry used to skip school to listen to his mum sing as she did housework. While they were kids, mum heard them singing in their room and was confused, she thought it was the radio. Still, as masters of their craft when Barry was 21, they couldn't read music, had no lessons, hence they learned about falsetto when recording Nights on Broadway. Barry became lead then, because he could sustain his falsetto longer. They have a sister, as well as Andy. She can fill in when one is not there, but didn't want fame.

  • @francisxray9900

    Good choice, Harri! Clear to see, this band of brothers had no chance to do anything else as gettin' famous and conquere the world. 1100 songs, for themselves and many others. Inducted to all halls of fame, Nr. 1 and top ten songs one after the other, Grammy's, platinum albums in a row, the song with the most airplays worldwide ('Staying Alive'), dominating again and again, comin' back again and again, always refreshing themselves. So what is missed? To give you excamples: Why didn't they win an Oscar in the year of 1977 (SNF)? Why were they banned from US Radiostations? Why, mostly musiccritizens wrote them down and joked about them? Why, the Rolling Stone magazine nowadays ranked them on place 95 in their list of 100 best songwriters ever? Ignorance and arrogance is still arround.

    Cute performance, accents are full on and the songs reflect Australia. Forgot they started so early but I don't think got to see them in the US more until they got on the radio in the 60s. But they had the perfect blend back then and looked like they were having fun too. Of course being young men, the audience loves the smaller ones when they perform, think The Jackson Five.

    Hi, me encantó tu reacción, si bien los adoro desde mis 11 años con Melody, estos videos los conocí en pandemia... BARRY no era carismático en ese momento. podía ser el mas grande (3 años) pero no tenía la gracia de los TWINS, aparte del talento ..hay varias canciones más que cantaron en el mismo programa, tienes que verlas...YO QUEDO ABSOLUTAMENTE HIPNOTIZADA POR ROBIN ..NO PUEDO DEJAR DE MIRARLO ...SI PUDIERA LO HUBIERA PUESTO ENTRE DOS PANES Y ME LO HUBIERA COMIDO 😂...ES UNA DELICIA...CUANDO SE SECA LAS LAGRIMAS EN EL CHALECO DE MO...Y LA CARITA DE MO, X DIOS!!! CUANDO ESTOY TRISTE VEO ESTOS PROGRAMAS DE AUSTRALIA CON ELLOS, QUE LOS HAN COLOREADO...FUERON MI ANTIDEPRESIVO EN EL COVID...Y ME ACOMPAÑARON TODA LA VIDA...BARRY ES MI MENOS OREFERIDO PORQUE IMPUSO MUCHO SU EGO AL LADO DE LOS TWINS...MUY TALENTOSO, PERO TANTAS CANCIONES PUDIERON SER MEJORES SIN EL FALSETO EN VOZ PRINCIPAL... PORQUE TENIA MUY BUENA VIZ DE PECHO Y LOS TRES PODIAN HACER FALSETO ..LOS TRES...!!! ROBIN ES MI ANGEL PREFERIDO Y DESPUÉS MO, BIEN CERQUITA...SALVARON A SU FAMILIA...BUENOS HOMBRES, DIGNOS, CORRECTOS AUNQUE ERAN DEMONIOS DE CHIQUITOS 😂😂😂... GRACIAS POR TU REACCION, ES GENUINA...NADIE PUEDE RESISTIRSE A ESTAS BELLEZAS, MUCHO MENOS A ROBIN QUE SE COME LA PERFORMANCE CON SU GRACIA!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍

    Hi Harri! I'm not sure if you know about the train wreck that Robin was in as a teen with his girlfriend. It was horrific and he had said it forever changed him. It's probably why in his later singing he seemed on the melancholy side.

      @@LizzieRD - He admitted to having stress (PTSD) for his entire life after that while previously Barry said he was hilarious but the wreck brought out the pathos in his composing. His humor was always still there but he was a dichotomy after that and you never knew who would show up on a given day.

    • @LizzieRD
      @LizzieRD ปีที่แล้ว

      @@susieq9801 interesting. Yes, heard or read that he had problems. One of the band members, think Blue Weaver, said he couldn't ever get close to Robin, but had no problems with the others.

    • @susieq9801
      @susieq9801 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@LizzieRD - He was always sensitive by his own admission but did become very withdrawn and more of a loner. He had to witness on the spot amputations and he pulled out mangled victims both dead and alive. At 17 that had to be traumatic and back then nobody really even treated let alone recognized PTSD. He heard one young man about his age pleading to him not to let him die but he was trapped and the voice eventually disappeared. Robin himself missed being decapitated by a rail that missed his head by inches. Many of the dead were impaled on rails. He said the hospital was like a war zone. He held it together until in the car on the way home and then burst into tears. The day after the crash he was told to rest but wrote "Really and Sincerely". It can be taken as a love song but the lyric "Really and sincerely I tried" stands out to me. Also as a teen I recall the fan magazines mocking his appearance compared to his brothers. One called him a gopher. That had to hurt his self esteem.
      .

    • @beeharbour
      @beeharbour ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’m sure the crash had a huge effect on him but their mother said Robin was always more withdrawn and introspective than his brothers. He was always a compelling performer with a great stage presence but he got much more restrained in his movements on stage around the time SNF broke huge because he was basically forced to. He was often very exuberant (in an idiosyncratic way) on upbeat songs but was told it wasn’t the image the Bee Gees wanted to project. He was such a unique, refreshing figure it is too bad so much got beat out of him as far as performing was concerned.

    Ummmm...I love, love, love the Bee Gees but this is just hokey and awful. This kind of act used to appear all the time on local TV amateur audition shows (There used to be a lot of these. I'm old.) and they were enjoyed by no one but the children's parents. If you did not know what lay ahead for these three you would not watch this for longer than 20 seconds without a menacing individual with a firearm nearby forcing you to do so. Just dreadful. IMHO, of course.
    As to Robin's stage demeanor, you can observe it change over the years to the point where he often seemed to be curling himself into his own body. He was quite active, even exuberant on stage early on, with some unique but endearing dance moves but was basically told he had the wrong look for the band. I think he was made to feel self-conscious about his natural movements and ended up not really knowing what to do with himself on stage when he wasn't actually singing. You forgot all about that once he opened his mouth because he was very confident in his voice.

    Robin was in a train wreck when he was 17 and was nearly killed, he saw many people dying around him anctually saved several people and Barry said Robin was never the same after that, from a very extrovert happy kid to totally the opposite.
