    Great reaction, Harri. One of my favorites and yes, Robin's voice is one of a kind and those vocals came so easily to him that he often sang at live performances with his hands in his pockets. What an amazing man and what an amazing group and I'm quite sure there will never ever be another group that will take us on the wonderful journey these three precious individuals took us on decade after decade. God did break that mold when he gave us our Bee Gees to love and cherish all those years! ❤️

    • @nelerhabarber5602
      @nelerhabarber5602 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He is the only one in live performances without an instrument! Playing bass , keyboard, guitar with no hands isn`t possible!!! 😂 In studio versions ALL of them often have their hands in their pockets, sorry!

    • @susieq9801
      @susieq9801 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@nelerhabarber5602 - Why are you sorry? Robin used piano and guitar to compose but just wasn't interested in playing live, preferring just to sing and he did so beautifully. Later on, due to arthritis, Barry often just held his guitar as a prop. It must have been quite painful to play. Barry just played rhythm chords and never played lead. That was the job of Maurice, the only versatile musician in the group.

    • @kthor
      @kthor ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@susieq9801Although Barry already looked fab, he certainly didn't need to hold his guitar as a prop while playing....& wouldn't be caught dead doing so. If anything, while performing live & when he didn't need to be playing, he'd let it rest across his chest. When his arthritis got bad, he had lighter weight guitars designed for him, so was prob easier to let it rest than taking it on & off while playing. Also over the years, several music critics have said he was an excellent rhythm guitarist. And yes, Mo was a master musician but Alan Kendall was their lead guitarist.

    • @susieq9801
      @susieq9801 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kthor - I know all of that as you are well aware. If you're not playing, put it down, otherwise it appears as a prop. He did on occasion do entire songs without touching it. I did say Barry's arthritis must have made playing extremely painful as did his back problems. There would be no shame if he didn't play while in pain.That took courage. After 50 years of playing I assume he was an adequate musician but being a musician myself, many people play rhythm. Playing rhythm vs lead is no sin but less difficult.
      Did I ever say Barry didn't "look fab"? Does that imply the twins were chopped liver, LOL?
      Robin's prop was his mic. He fidgeted like hell with those things and even broke a few. Maybe Robin was just too lazy to learn musicianship in depth. Not his priority. His own father said he was lazy but then they never saw eye to eye. He was far from lazy in other ways like studying history and his philanthropic activities, more so than his brothers. It might have also just been insecurity. Perhaps he didn't feel he was a good enough musician. Not everyone is.
      Maurice was the guy who found the musical riffs and the right chords and was the de facto band leader on stage but is often disregarded. Years ago he said people approached Barry and Robin to go solo but never him. Also "there was the good looking one, the one with the teeth and the other one". That must have been terribly hurtful and demoralising just as was people calling Robin "ugly", which has nothing to do with talent. BTW, Mo was quite capable of playing lead riffs like the intro to "This is where I came in". His piano in songs like "Alone again" was amazing for self taught. Former band members all agreed he was the backbone of the band in practically every way.
      I was just countering the sarcastic comments of another who is always eager to provide them. Everyone can post whatever they want without interpreting everything as worthy of starting WW3.

    Hi Harri, I don't know if you noticed but when they put the camera on the music sheets it's all written words only that's because none of the boys can read music, they never bothered to learn! That in itself is truly amazing! Also, Barry is standing very awkwardly that's because he either just had back surgery or was waiting to have it done. From their 1997 album, "Still Waters" their 21st album that went multi platinum.
    A lovely ballad of midlife melancholy, with chronic loneliness
    complete with bagpipes.
    Barry and Robin's beautiful falsettos alternate on the lead vocals, giving the harmony and chorus a beautiful sound reminiscent of the 50's.

      Along with Barry's lead, Alone was one of Robin's best vocal performances....not quite as quivery & trembling as other songs. And absolutely no one could copy Barry's falsetto....or there'd be dozens competing for that "top spot".🎼

I remember as a teenager when Andy passed suddenly, and he was so talented and seemed so sweet in his personality….. it was tragic that he passed from something treatable. I’m glad those Barry finds peace and preservation to carry out their legacy

    In the early years, Robin sang lead, often. As in I started a joke. Then people grew tired of balads,
    and the Bee Gees went another direction.
    Robins voice was also a cause to conflict between the brothers, Music industry wanted Robin to go solo,
    and for some years he did, untill he found that it was very lonely to be without family.
    Both Robin and Barry with Maurice as a duo, had hits seperately. RIP Robin and Maurice

    Yes,Robin' unique high vibrato was awesome..but Barry has layers of different voices...sweet romantic gentle voice...funky voice..incredible technique in super high and smooth tiptoe falsetto...signature sound of The Bee Gees..🎉❤although Maurice had sexy deep voice but he loved instrument strings more than singing....that's why he was the middle man between Barry and Robin..😅so miss Maurice's natural voice and amazing falsetto..he was the one after Barry's falsetto...Robin's falsetto was the last one of the gibb brothers....

    Wish Barry would have ditched his nasally falsetto for his main part in this song (and in most where he sings lead in falsetto) and sung it using his pleasanter natural register. IMO, his falsetto should have been saved just for parts in the harmonies. I'm a fan of the harmonies, as the three brothers blend their voices so beautifully. But, truly... my favorite Bee Gees songs have Robin as lead. His effortless delivery in that exquisitely ethereal voice is unparalleled. Love love LOVE Robin!

      Considering they began writing songs for his falsetto leads & backing vocals, it was actually a decision they ALL made when they wanted fame & moola.😎

    well.....yes.....Robin had a very beautiful voice without doubt but...in my opinion, existed at least one voice so good as good as Robin's voice...is called ....BARRY'S voice.....you can chek it listening songs like "words" spirits tour 1979.....words...one tour 1989 or "the only one" live version tour 1991 among others. Robin's fans i thing are less than Barry's fans but they are more fanatical in order to equilibrate Robin's minor role than Barry in the Bee Gees. otherwise i disagree with you about your opinion on Barry's falsetto. I dont thing his falsetto is "imitable".....at least his seventies or eighties falsetto, This falseto was PERFECT.....powerfull, with vibrato and it sounded NATURAL, Robin's voice is so hard to imitate like Barry's natural and wonderfull voice

      Unfortunately a lot of people mocked and got sick of the falsetto and it pretty much destroyed their career after 1980 and no radio stations would play the great songs they did after that time, which was totally unfair. I liked it in a few songs but it was overused. It made them a lot of money and rejuvenated their career for a while but it became a double edged sword because they used it for too long and people tired of it. Barry should have stuck more to his lovely natural voice and used the falsetto more sparingly even though they all wrote songs featuring it due to its popularity with some fans. Technically, Barry used tremolo, not vibrato. Two totally different vocal abilities. Tremolo is a way of mimicking vibrato by using a variation in volume and is a conscious effort whereas vibrato is an innate variation in pitch and not consciously contrived but natural. BTW, Robin's role was NOT minor. He co-wrote 90% of their songs and in the mid 60's in the UK was labelled as the lead singer who also sang their first #1 hit, Massachusetts. Barry said Robin came in with the idea for that song, sang it and his mouth dropped open. Even as little kids one thing that got attention was two little twins singing with their big brother. NONE of the brothers had a minor role. Don't forget Maurice either. He was called by everyone the backbone of the group and by far the best musician. Why did you and so many others never even mention him? Fans of every brother can be fanatical. That's why they are called "fans" n'est ce pas?
