    The lack of even Main Pre-outs is a major fail to me. No way I'd pick this over a Denon X3800h for $1100. X3800h + Full Dirac upgrade is a better deal than the MA9100HP. The cheapest 2 models are a good selling point for small systems or 2.1 setups in a non-theater area. I love the look, especially the White, and Class D amps, but not being able to add more power to the system is a major oversight compared to the competition.

    • @TechnoDad
      @TechnoDad  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I would agree. The cheaper ones are the ones to buy for smaller spaces.

      What do you need the pre outs with the top line model? It has plenty of power, if its class d amps are decent, what do you need external amp for? And currently these d-class chips are great. I wonder how well this one sounds.

      I want to get one but no preout for fronts is deal breaker at 1200. Deal breaker like the slim lime. Marantz slime line has pre outs.

    Definitely interested to see your review if you get one. I think JBL understood the assignment here. Class D for a smaller and hopefully cooler form factor that can actually power a full set of 9 speakers for people who were never going to use an external amp.
    Only drawback is it seems like there's not much tinkering you can do unless you pay for direct which puts them in another price class

    I slapped a 510 in my bedroom 2 days after Best Buy got the white ones in stock.. I've got a little 3.1 setup in there with my old Infinity speakers.
    Honestly, for $600 it's perfect. I have zero complaints. It replaced an $800 (2006) JVC receiver which is out for repair.

    Arcam - sound

    I just saw the white one at Best Buy on the main aisles for 399 and thought it was a type-o. It was the most stunning looking AV receiver that was not at their Magnolia showroom. I wish I took time to figure out how to demo them.

    These new JBL units should appeal to more casual users who don't need certain features and want to keep things relatively simple. One of the biggest draws for me would be the color LCD menu on the 9100 and 7100. No more pecking around the small monochrome LED displays and/or needing the remote control to change or confirm settings. I'd like to see this feature on more receivers.

    Seems like a miss all around compared to Onkyo/Denon equivalents. The lack of pre-outs is a super big miss in my opinion for the top ones along with on average 2 less channels. Onkyo NR7100 is 9 channel no pre-outs for cheaper and right now Onkyo RZ50 is on sale for $999 with 11.2 pre-outs and full Dirac live included, and Denon x3800h can be had similarly in price without Dirac included but Audyssey XT32 is no slouch. I spent $2000 on my 60lb Onkyo RZ70 with 11.2 channels and full Dirac live w/ bass control upgrade ($350/500 extra) and the JBL MA9100HP costs $1600 plus probably $350 upgrade for full band Dirac live with no bass control option ever so for $1950 vs $2000 I think it's a no brainer which is a better buy. Looks wise these look amazing compared to either Denon or Onkyo is the only thing that they have going for them imo.

      Yeah, what a shame more receivers don't have discrete stereo/assignable RCA sub-outs. With models like these JBLs, the only way to get proper stereo sub-outs would be to use the assignable speaker terminals. Your subs will have to have speaker inputs... or you'll have to use a convertor like the newly-released SVS SoundPath Speaker Level Subwoofer Adapter.
