Do you like visiting cemeteries? I love how different each one is, especially the older ones. What is the most interesting cemetery you’ve ever been to?
NOLADEEJ I would recommend checking out the St Roch Cemetery No.1 and 2 in the Bywater. Always quiet and it’s kind of a hidden gem.
Heck yea, especially New Orleans cemeteries! They're so much part of the culture!
NOLADEEJ I also would recommend the cemetery in Destrehan by St Charles Borromeo on River Road
So the F is for Free Masons and the A is accepted Masons. You may also see AF especially in that old cemetery which is Ancient Free Masons. I couldn't see how it was writtenb.c.to tell for sure.

Accepted Masons is an amendment to allow African Americans in to the Masons. They were excluded before because most African Americans ancestors were slave and thus not a free citizen.

The word you're looking for for those slightly raised in-ground tombs is "Coping". It was cheaper than building a mausoleum type vault. They were common before they started selling the wall slot tombs, which were originally used for temporary storage. When someone died and was sealed in a tomb, a year and a day had to pass before it could be unsealed to do another burial. If family members died in rapid succession, the bodies would have to be stored until a year and a day after the first burial.
Thank you for that visit. Where you are touring, my dad is buried in a mausoleum facing the two story home directly across from where he lays rest. I haven't been back since we laid him to rest there in 1997. That was a nice trip home.

Yes I love visiting cemeteries. Most of my friends say it's morbid. I disagree. And I would love to visit a cemetery like this with tombs like this. I don't think we have any like that here in Ohio. I didn't know that about new orleans. Neat.

Have you ever visited oakwood cemetery in Austin Tx? It's off of Martin Luther King Blvd & I-35. It's a historical cemetery that has a public tour every year in September or October. But you can go solo as well too. It was the very first cemetery in Austin. And a lot of famous people who built Austin is buried there. It also has above ground vaults, mini mausoleums, tombs. It is fairly large. It takes up two sides of the streets. But it's so fun to go to the tours! There are big groups of people who come to it all day on tour day. They have events during the tours too. They demonstrate how they deep clean the headstones, You make your own cherry lines, They teach you the history behind the cemetery and the people, And they also have people dressed in costumes at many of the graves pretending to be that person buried there talking about their history and how they died. They actually ACT their character! And I tell you, they put on a show! It is SO interesting! I live here in Austin. Me and my friend went to this tour couple of years back we got the tour information online & we went. It's still hot as heck. So if you go by yourself, Pick a cooler month to go. Or if you choose the public tour, Bring few bottles of water.

I can tell you roughly 13 years ago, the gates were not in front of the staircase leading up. Myself and 2 other people were able to walk to the top of structure and look around. I thought that was pretty cool then. But I guess times have changed and it had to be blocked off. :( :(

Personally I've visited all of London's 'magnificent seven', which are the large elaborate cemeteries built around the outskirts in the Victorian era. I really enjoy looking at funerary architecture, but then I also like ghosts and vampires etc 👻☠️👹

It could mean as you state that we are free from bondage, or it could mean that unlike most other workers in the middle ages that we were not attached to a parcel of land to work and were free to travel between towns seeking to work our trade.

I am a Mason in Tennessee. There was a time when joining the military and becoming a Mason were seen as two of the most honorable things a man could do. Masonic cemeteries are not as common as they used to be, but still occasionally used. The masonic membership has been in decline since the 50's, and a lot of it has to do with lack of interest, and the idiot conspiracy theories keep posting their garbage on here.

@Digital Ronin X there are two types. The operative Masons are the ones whose job it is to work stone and make buildings. Speculative Masons are the Freemasons. Freemasons use the tools of the operative as symbols in building the self in to something to be proud of.. just as an operative mason creates a real building to be proud of... such as the great cathedrals of the middle ages.
