- We open wonderful winter gifts with Davy, who has just returned to the chateau!!
In 'Cadeaux at the Chateau', all of the inhabitants of the Chateau de Lalande gather together to open beautiful gifts that people have sent from all over the world. All of the monetisation from these videos will be donated to a different charity each month. TH-cam earnings fluctuate wildly each month, as ad revenue changes throughout the year. Here are the charities that we've donated to so far:
July 2020:
British Heart Foundation UK (in memory of my father) €634

Alzheimer's Research UK (in memory of all of the residents of my parents' nursing homes) €350

I used to show the gifts as part of ' @The Chateau Diaries ' episodes, but you're all so very generous that we have many gifts, and if we spent the episodes opening them, we wouldn't be able to show you other aspects of chateau life! So, for those of you who enjoy watching presents being opened, and as a way to thank those of you who were kind enough to send them, I've made this new channel. Every week we will film your beautiful gifts whilst enjoying afternoon tea or aperitif together.
It is very important to me that you know that we in no way expect anyone to send us gifts. I would like to go further than that and add that, if doing so will put you in any financial difficulty whatsoever, please, please do not send us anything. Knowing that you join us by watching 'The Chateau Diaries' gives us all an enormous boost. But for those of you who have sent these incredibly thoughtful gifts, I hope that seeing us open them gives you a fraction of the joy that you've given us 💖💖💖

You folks are so funny in this video! Davey and Stephanie leaning into a scent together is charming. It seems you need a botanical dictionary. Kumudu is a kind of waterlily; vervain is verbena and is pink drumsticks on stems; vetiver is a grass; neroli is a citrus; sea fennel is a samphire; I think Indian cress is nasturtium. This was a lovely hour of pure enjoyment and silliness and camaraderie -- still much needed in this world. THANKS!
I thought, "Kumudu... isn't that a prion disease that wiped out the Fore people in Papau New Guinea?" and then I realized that was Kuru and I had no idea what Kumudu was, so thanks for the tutorial! :)

👀Watching the two of them interact is sweet🥰. Their mutual respect & affection for the other is obvious. Each seems generous & selfless, but those two are on opposite ends of the expressiveness 😁continuum🤐.
😊 Stephanie is much more sanguine (cheerfully optimistic & enthusiastic) while 🤔Davey is so phlegmatic (stoic, analytical, & a calm temper that doesn't waver). It's 🆒 that he participates in the vlog. He's proven a good sport who's willing to go where she🚶♀️leads🚶.

Fascinating how perfumers (wine makers🍷, brewers🍺, coffee makers☕, ice cream makers🍨, & more) use real life inspiration to add depth & richness to their products. 😃Our ability to👃smell is wondrous thing. It's such a big part of the tasting👅 process too.

Some of those brands are quite expensive. And in the States can usually only typically purchase from higher-end stores. Neil is a very generous gift giver for sure! None the less saying though. Everyone is always so generous and kind. Always lovely watching both of your channels!

Hello all, Indian Cress is called Nasturtium in the UK. They are small yellow orange flowers. Very pretty with a distinctive scent.
Also used in salads. Adds a pepper taste

I have a 4 year old granddaughter who is obsessed with flamingos...has been since 2. She sleeps with a crocheted one made by her Aunt Stacie...Mingo is the name. I think a flamingo Christmas tree in a room is in order next year at the chateau 😊

When we travelled to Scotland it was the first time we'd met those cows. We called them happy, hippy cows because of the hair over the eyes. They are beautiful animals.

I was just letting this vlog run as I worked but the last bit caught my attention and I had to back it up. Your mention of the donation to melanoma research is very kind, and a sweet tribute to Yvonne’s husband. By an odd chance, I am watching on St. David’s Day, March 1st, which is the anniversary of my father’s death of malignant melanoma. It is a horrible disease, and one we should all be on guard against. By another odd chance, St. David is not only the patron of Wales, but of sailors. My father was a naval man, and he and my mother helped found a little Episcopal church named in the saint’s honor here in my little town - hard up against the submarine base where he served as a young man.
There is no way you can know how these small and great acts of kindness affect many others, rippling out to touch hearts around the world. Along with the community of hearts you’ve brought together, I pray a difference is made in this too often sad world, by each small thing which touches or inspires others.

You need a tea bag to sniff in between all the different smells, this clears the nasal passages and allows you to get a true fragrance smell.💖💖🇦🇺

Welcome back Davey..it is good to see you coming out of your “shell,” I can tell you are becoming a lot more comfortable behind the camera. I have to say it gets a little confusing when more than one is opening gifts, because others are showing you what they opened while Stefanie is either looking at her gift or acknowledging what the other has opened. I still so enjoy watching the gift opening and am amazed at the generosity of others, but, I can understand why they do though. Great to see Phillip in front of the camera.
Some overseas charities would be wonderful because so many of the gifts come from overseas.
They do charitable donations in SA also as Isabelle can research and oversee. 😁❤🌺🌹🥂

I love different makes of masks and I hang them on a section of the wall in our home. They are awesome, those masks you received, Steph. If you are not able to use them in Venice, there is still Easter in Lalande this year.

Opening the gifts is fun, often things that are handy to have. I wonder if it is time to donate the gifts to charity too? There have been an enormous number of gifts received, and surely - too many for the chateau by now. Of course, some are sent to a specific person, so those go to that person. But the rest - surely ... ? Of course, some gifts are very special to the sender and they want that gift to go to the chateau. It might be difficult to sort them tactfully
Family, Friends and guests (often who become friends) also get some of the bath products, etc. Remember there are often 20 people at the Chateau at a time in season. Per the Vlogs, Food and candy they don't use is donated.🤣❤🌺🌹🥂
