Nothing unknown about this album. I mean, it was banned in some places for blasphemy which not only made it known to people who appreciate art but also to the single digit IQ folks out there.
Wait.... I don't understand what you're saying. Wtf is a top 20 desert island collection????? And what do you mean, "it "WOULD" be in mine???? You mean YOU DON'T EVEN OWN this album??????? And if that's the case, then I have nothing more to say to you until YOU DO OWN this album!!! Then we can talk...
@@jefferylong4239 You could have stopped after your first sentence - You clearly don’t understand. If you’d like to understand try asking nicely, Jeffery.
@@b3nchur they didn't have a choice in the matter, at the time their careers were floundering and Virgin said they had to have an American produce their album or they were off the label. If Andy and Colin had their way they probably would have produced it themselves.
The most original band ever and the beginning of this album contains two of the best song ever recorded - so many good memories to go along with them and still producing goodness.
This is when andy partridge really began to come out of his shell- thermonuclear pop genius- no peer. and this is not even on of m favorite songs of XTC- but it justgrabs your sould and rips it like a crosscut paper shredder. what a way to go. :-)
drowning here in summer's cauldron, under mats of flower lava. Please, don't pull me out, this is how I would want to go. This makes me shed a tear of sadness and happiness at the same time, and I didn't even know that was possible.
Sweet songs sweet fellows it seems...has everybody seen that xtc minidoc...This is Pop? That was my first album of XTC loved it so much! a friend of mine brought it back from Exeter I will always be grateful! I loved them and the Ramones
this song is the best for summer time, its so joyful and just so beautiful, the background chirpings of the insects and instruments used here, and how they are played really set the mood for a good summer vacay! thank you XTC
What an incredible work of art....everything they did. This one is magical like so many others songs they wrote. My favorite band of all time, tied with Kansas. When you are a nerd, even a very older nerd from way back in the day...but nonethless, a music loving nerd...I love XTC
As beautiful as when it first came out. Have given the album as a present to many people including the girl I was supposed to be with forever - it didn’t work out that way but she liked the album though!
Andy's woozy, humid rumination on the sunniest season giving way to Colin's sweetly suggestive ode to love al fresco: a great start to one of my favorite albums.
I believe the fly buzz 0:46 should have been listed in the credits. I've never been able to find out who's GENIUS idea that was. I believe it was recorded in stereo too? So you actually hear it going from one side to the other, or am I wrong?
Me and my mate always argue about who is the greatest English band of all time, he says Roxy Music, I say XTC. I admit it’s a close call! PS. I’ll exclude the stones and the Beatles as i get them but never been a huge fan of either.
God it kind of sounds a little like animal collective, the experimental ambient textures mixed in with a brilliant pop song. Damn Skylarking is so fucking awesome and ahead of its time
One of the best bloody albums ever. Always makes me happy...like a bug in brandy.
lol.yes
Perfect
In this big bronze cup
ah, and then bug moves to grass
Yep!
If any band took the crown that the Beatles left unworn... it's XTC.
THAT GREAT SEGUE FROM CAULDRON TO GRASS- PRICELESS

It's remarkable! I've heard these tracks a thousand times since my youth in the 1980s and they still give me goosebumps.

Skylarking.. one of the greatest albums I believe. XTC were brilliant!
One of the great unknown albums of the 80's
Unknown to some not all
If you were in college in the mid-80s, it was far from unknown. More like unavoidable.
/but in a good way
Glad I was in the know in the 80s. 🥰
my cousin knew this from college radio. She said it was everywhere on campus.
Nothing unknown about this album. I mean, it was banned in some places for blasphemy which not only made it known to people who appreciate art but also to the single digit IQ folks out there.
Like the 🐦 chirps. Todd Rundgren nice production. Colin Moulding amazing Bass as ever. Andy in confident mode. Grand.
One of the very best albums, EVER!
Every song on this album is extraordinary!

My favorite XTC album. I was introduced to this band Junior year UT Knoxville 89. I'm sure we smoked some grass while listening.
I'm a 56 yr old Brit Oswaldtwistle still am.
A song to put on in the depths of winter to warm you up and keep you hanging on for the sun's return. Summer bottled in two and a half minutes.
Fuck that. Winter is the best. The Brits did their best writings then.
I can’t stop replaying the transition.
I think anyone who owns this album would put it in their top 20 desert island collection, I know it would be in mine.
Lots of people like grass & weed too
No question. Still have the disc, and it always sounds fresh after 100s of listens
Wait.... I don't understand what you're saying. Wtf is a top 20 desert island collection????? And what do you mean, "it "WOULD" be in mine????

..... and I don't care if your comment is 9 years old, if you don't own this album by now then there's no hope. It's all over

One of the best album openings I've ever heard!
I love the winged insect buzzing by at around 0:46. It's a small thing, but this album is full of moments like these that make me smile.
It punctuates the first line so well
Colin and Andy . . . what a pair of geniuses. Doesn't hurt to have Rundgren producing either.
Very surprised they didn't just produce it themselves
Small world
For all the turmoil on this album it really turned out perfect
Rundgren was admonished for his 'muddy' production. I love it.
@@b3nchur they didn't have a choice in the matter, at the time their careers were floundering and Virgin said they had to have an American produce their album or they were off the label. If Andy and Colin had their way they probably would have produced it themselves.
This album always reminds me of seemingly -endless childhood summers in the eighties. So evocative. Hits me in the feels every time.
One of the most underrated albums ever recorded. A true masterpiece! Brings back a lot of great memories of hot humid summers in Memphis
This IS the best song ever written. I cannot play it loud enough.
I play it at neighbor disturbing volume, too. :-)
kanekila If you were my neighbor, and jammed this very loud, I would so jam along. This is too wonderful to be mad at.
arguably...
My favorite 80s album.

I love the last cry 3:16 "here in summers cauldron" just before it transitions into "Grass"
Hearing the pup let out a little yip bark. Love it!!!🐶
Top 20 greatest records ever made. Thank you Todd Rundgren for your production, arrangement and engineering expertise.
Beginning of the best concept album in human history.
Always love Colin Mouldings bass work.Great.
The most original band ever and the beginning of this album contains two of the best song ever recorded - so many good memories to go along with them and still producing goodness.
These lyrics are pure poetry
Summer's Cauldron is one of my favorite summer songs of all time!
What a fantastic song. Definitely one of the highlights of the album!
This is when andy partridge really began to come out of his shell- thermonuclear pop genius- no peer. and this is not even on of m favorite songs of XTC- but it justgrabs your sould and rips it like a crosscut paper shredder.
what a way to go. :-)
that fades in beautifully. always puts a smile on my face when Grass kicks in!
My favourite XTC album...apart from all the others.
play it every spring, every summer... 'til the day I die. thanx XTC!!!

Sgt. Pepper's and Summer's Cauldron are blood brothers
Gracias Andy Patridge por tanta belleza, tan maravilloso compositor que lo disfrutamos unos pocos en el mundo.
One of my all time favorite albums.
god this is absolutely gorgeous. during my breakup, i wouldnt have noticed the harmony of nature enveloping me without this song.
Thank you SO much for putting these two songs together...as they should be 😌💙
buttery smooth.
I love Rundrgen and Partridge, but at least the result was GREAT, despite their differences.
Over a quarter-century of auditory joy, ...andy a Partridge in a pear tree. What a time to be alive and listening.
shocked me too the things we used to do on grass ...
As beautiful as when it first came out. Have given the album as a present to many people including the girl I was supposed to be with forever - it didn’t work out that way but she liked the album though!
BIG ALBUM, BIG POP, BIG XTC!
+TIN DRUM Big express!
Cannot express how much I love this
Andy's woozy, humid rumination on the sunniest season giving way to Colin's sweetly suggestive ode to love al fresco: a great start to one of my favorite albums.
Good Burger brought me here! Fantastic song
SUBLIME! Unbelievable songwriters and delightfully inventive players to boot!
Most underrated, underexposed bands of all time, in my opinion. Of course, my opinion matters not. :)
Maybe not.....but I'd have to agree with you
toss up between these, the Cardiacs and the Gang of Four imho :)
MASTAPIECE
I wanna go back to the 80's where the best memories and music were , and never come back to today's society and music.
Dave Gregory's string arrangement on 1000 Umbrellas is phenomenal!
The best thread ive ever been on , wonderful comment's

We play this album every time we go on vacation to the Outer Banks.
Top 20 Desert Island for sure.
Absolutely love it! Always have since I'd heard it on our local college radio station, back in '86, '87 or '88, it's been awhile.
Love this tune.
Thank you for keeping those songs together, it always cuts otherwise.
Erano avanti decenni: Andy Partridge e Colin Moulding sono dei geni! ❤️🔝
An all-time classic.
up with ANY album double opener. Fan-fuckin-tastic! just great music, Haaayoo!

Thanks very much for sharing this.
too beautiful
Love it - since've heard it for the first time.
Don't want to sound like a broken record but Black Sea and English settlement were always my favorites shit everything they do is my favorite 🍺👍😜😎
I was a 20 year old radio disc jockey on the radio spinning this record.
I'm a 69 year old hippie still playing this song on the radio. Like, in tomorrow's show, and it won't be the first time (or last).
Continues the pastoral theme of Mummer
It would shock you too the things we used to do on grass...
Sheer brilliance this, beyond anything you think you may be privy to . . .
Currently enjoying the sound of the copper chord of August's organ.
wow how harmonize the insect chants fabuloso¡¡¡¡
Timeless genius
tODD rUNDGREN -did a great job- with talented xTc !
Brilliant. Love it.
Still have this on vinyl with Mermaid Smiled. Before the reissue with Dear God. 😘
woah thats really cool!!😮
Simply amazing.
Masterpiece.
Magnum opus.
This really works well as one song... “Summer’s Cauldron Grass”
Me and my mate always argue about who is the greatest English band of all time, he says Roxy Music, I say XTC. I admit it’s a close call! PS. I’ll exclude the stones and the Beatles as i get them but never been a huge fan of either.
Top 10 XTC song (pair) ...
Smokin' da grass n' poundin' da grass...all good things 😉
God it kind of sounds a little like animal collective, the experimental ambient textures mixed in with a brilliant pop song. Damn Skylarking is so fucking awesome and ahead of its time
definitely. I think the next track "The Meeting Place" sounds like AnCo even more, but Summer's Cauldron is close too
"Over and over we flatten the clover " sigh.....
This is the summer song.
I listen every time I wanna feel like summertime… 😅
Evocacion intensa a el campo, sol fuerte y luna llena en el monte, en el bosque y un grupo de vacas pastando a lo lejos...
Beautiful
⭐ XTC wins the golden star sicker of a life time. Seamless from Summers Cauldron to Gass... Flawless
Almost forgot this classic tune
C'est l'été ! ;-)))
Beauty...
1000 Umbrellas - XTC
This should take up one side of the album like in the good old days of prog rock
Summer`s Cauldron remembers me a bit on Tears for Fears! (Or should I say, Tears for Fears began to sound like XTC at the end of the 80s?)
I heard this song in my dream
3:18 God I love the segue...
