The initial downloading of this plug-in was perfect, however the last time I opened it the only window available was the one with faders. Do not have the option to view the needle meter and don't even have the cool blue panel in the controls area. This is also the case with other plug-ins as well. Have restarted computer several times. Have 2021 MacBook with M1 chip. I could work with fader window, but so much easier with the meter.
Thank you for the super-clear and easy to follow steps. One question: In the second use of the MVmeter2 (RMS), when I turn the knob up to get -10dB RMS max, I get a lot of distortion. Anything above about +5dB on the knob gives distortion, but the max RMS only gets to -13dB. Any ideas?

This is, by far, the most informative and easily accessible Garageband tutorial site on the internet - full commendation to Lewin for putting in the time and effort. A few questions (and bear with me, I'm a novice): 1. At the mastering stage, do adjustments to compression settings, etc, actually override all those already made in the individual tracks, or is the result additive/cumulative? I was wondering, for example, what is actually happening to those settings, when something like 'Fast Attack 4 Band' is applied, at the mastering stage, via the Multipressor. Am I replacing my earlier adjustments, or in some way, adding to them? And does it matter? 2. after exporting as an AIFF file, does anything further need to de done with that file? I've seen some tutorials where the mastering is actually done on the AIFF file - or is this just for scenarios where a collection of tracks are being readied for album format? Thanks.

My question is can I take the recordings from his DAW(studio one) and upload them in Garageband for me to mix them?
Hello again.. I was just reviewing this video again. This may very well be the only video that didn't include the use of a Limiter during the mastering process. Wondering if you actually didn't use it or if you didn't mention it because it's such a "given" during this process. Cheers.
Go up to the “track” pulldown menu and at the bottom you will see something that says “show master track”, select that and it will appear at the bottom of the tracklist in the main window.
The RMS meter on this song I just mastered has a difference in the left and right hand MAX readings. Left says -12.1, right says -11.2. Is that ok? What does it mean? Other songs I've done have been closer numbers on the initial meter and also the RMS one. FOLLOWUP: After too long trying to figure this out I discovered that a vocal track somehow ended up on a midi "background" track. It still had the waveform, but on a green background instead of blue. Couldn't copy paste it onto a blue track, it turned it green. Had to re-record the vocal.
I have downloaded and tried to install this 3 times but all I get are manuals...where is the actual application? Looked in my Library,Sounds...thank you...still learning. ^..^
Hi! Silly questions perhaps but hey I’m a novice! I’ve started following you for a few weeks now, great useful stuff! But how do I save/see the wav forms on the master track? And how do I open the meters that I downloaded at your suggestion? Sorry if this is basic stuff but I’m incredibly frustrated at the moment!! Thanks, Lewin.
Andrew no worries! To see the waveforms you need to open the editor button. In the top left corner of GB you will see 4 buttons, you want the one with scissors.
Hi, thanks for the great video but I don't understend. I put a meter on master and set VU near - 1 on loud part. I put another meter in rms and set near - 10 but the garageband meter is red clip. After bounce master and look the wavefoem there are many square clip. Why? I do the same things of the video. Thanks in advance for the reply.
@@GaragebandandBeyond I'm having the same issue. When I bumped up the RMS standard like you did it really bumped up the volume and sounded fine in the mix, but the exported clip (uncompressed 24 bit and without the normalize in preferences) and then dragged that back into the mix, it was just too clippy. How do you make the music loud at export without the clipping??
Hi, I’m a beginner with mastering. I don’t understand if I can use compressors or not in the mixing because you told to turn ‘em off before mastering. So, do I have to use compressors only in the mastering? Can you help me?
First of all what is mastering? No one has ever come up with a concrete definition. Every mastering engineer makes it sound like it's some magic trick y'all are performing. Are the universal basic concepts and principles that every engineer needs to learn? If there are, what are they? If they aren't why call yourselves engineers? What are examples of well mastered music recordings? More importantly what are examples of poorly mastered music recordings? These are some of the burning questions I as an hobbyist amateur music producer have regarding mastering but no one has ever answered to my satisfaction. Still, I appreciate this tutorial.

Go up to the “track” pulldown menu and at the bottom you will see something that says “show master track”, select that and it will appear at the bottom of the tracklist in the main window.
Thank you so much for this!
Great tutorial... so going into the red on the GB monitor doesnt matter when the needle on the MVmeter stays within the limits you describe?
Yes you are correct.
@@GaragebandandBeyond gamechanger in my confidence with my podcasts... cheers
I downloaded the MVmeter2 successfully, I restarted my mac but I still can't find this plug-in. :(
I have downloaded and tried to install this 3 times but all I get are manuals...where is the actual application? Looked in my Library,Sounds...thank you...still learning. ^..^
Restart your computer and then you will se it.
@@GaragebandandBeyond OH Thank you so much! I can't believe I forgot to do that! Whoops! ^..^
@@GaragebandandBeyond How do i Open the GB users mastering in Garage Band?
Hi, thanks for the great video but I don't understend. I put a meter on master and set VU near - 1 on loud part. I put another meter in rms and set near - 10 but the garageband meter is red clip. After bounce master and look the wavefoem there are many square clip. Why? I do the same things of the video. Thanks in advance for the reply.
Make sure that the "Normalize" box in NOT checked in your Garageband preferences.
OK nvm, i should've just dragged my export into a new mastering project, not the mix so it sounds better now. Oopsy
Are you no longer using the Fast Attack 4-Band Multipressor? I didn't get a proper look at your mastering chain to see.
duuuuude thank you so much!!!!
Do they have a 32 version instead of 64?
Hi, I’m a beginner with mastering. I don’t understand if I can use compressors or not in the mixing because you told to turn ‘em off before mastering. So, do I have to use compressors only in the mastering? Can you help me?
Yeah, compressor only in the mastering
Nice video nice Infos
First of all what is mastering? No one has ever come up with a concrete definition. Every mastering engineer makes it sound like it's some magic trick y'all are performing. Are the universal basic concepts and principles that every engineer needs to learn? If there are, what are they? If they aren't why call yourselves engineers? What are examples of well mastered music recordings? More importantly what are examples of poorly mastered music recordings?
These are some of the burning questions I as an hobbyist amateur music producer have regarding mastering but no one has ever answered to my satisfaction. Still, I appreciate this tutorial.
