    I can't believe I made it to this point. It has not been an easy process. I jumped around too much. Thankfully I didn't have to scrap the whole thing. After this first release I will do better. I just need to move forward or else I will never get started. Thank you for making this available to all of us trying to make music on our own.

    Thanks so much. I just started recording my songs in GarageBand and am feeling FAR more ready to take them through the mastering stage after watching your video. Was going to use AI mastering but now I feel inspired to try it myself. Thanks so much!

    I love your videos as they are super helpful. One major setting / item to uncheck is the Audio Normalization in the advanced settings. If checked it then GarageBand will automatically increase your volume when exporting your mix and you’ll bang your head against the wall trying to master it. I couldn’t figure out why my exported mixes were so much louder and finally I found this thanks to Google. Hopefully this helps someone. Thanks Colin for helping us all out!

      Awesome! Thanks for the tip. I still can't get my MVMeter to hit the right numbers. It's +3 even though my Lufts numbers are good.

    I agree with the subtlety because you also have to consider the EQ on someone’s stereo they’re playing the song on which elevates levels on top of the mastered song

    Colin, thank you for walking me through this. I've gotten a louder, more commercial level master from this video today without clipping it to death and wrecking the mix. You are awesome, sir.

    Well to be perfectly honest i've used mastering presets when I worked with my porta studio before 😳.
    So, this is the last step that I really have to learn and raise my knowledge about and this video was of great help. It's great to discover this different formulas for every step in the mixing process and it's all about knowledge and to grab the whole subject of mixing and learn and practise.
    Thanks Boss!

    Hello Colin! Your series "The ULTIMATE GarageBand Beginner's Guide" is once again phenomenal! The only information missing is: What should the master track look like before exporting a song to disk before mastering? Should there be no effects like EQ or Compressor running on the master track at all? Thanks for your answer in advance! Many greetings from Northern Germany

    I've been working with GarageBand for the last +5 years, but I got a PC recently and comparing the same recordings with the same settings I've noticed a big quality difference, then I noticed it was because the Sample Rate in my Mac is stucked at 44,1Khz and for what I know I need to use the biggest rate in order to achieve a good quality once I start adding pluggins etc... So I have to say goodbye to GarageBand and to all the channels that helped me to use it properly, now I'm using Reaper and it's a huge difference, thank you very much!!!

    I've been mastering with a method I learned from another TH-cam GB channel. But I have been learning so much from your channel. I can't wait to try your method of mastering. I've also tried using the presets in GB. My music is so different I have to learn a lot more since I cross through many different genres of music, folk, country, rock, blues, and pop. If you could touch on different genres in one of your videos it would be appreciated.

    Totally new to mixing/mastering so this series has been super informative & helpful. So thank you Colin! Everything has been easy to follow and you explain everything well. I worked alongside this series on my own song and got to this final step, but my meters vary vastly and I'm not sure how/why. Without the limiters on the track in this session, MVMeter2 reads about -12, while the YouLean Loudness Meter reads -22 lufs. It seem like your readings were nearly the same, so I'm not sure what I should be aiming for here. If I try to get the lufs to around -14 or higher, the MVMeter2 gets too high for what you recommended. Got any tips?

    On your automation video, you recommended to place a limiter on the master track to increase loudness and to listen to the pre-master mix on different devices. Are you removing this limiter before you master it?

  • @benfoster4759

    Been recording on garageband for a while and never given mastering a go using this method. I've used the 'master track' that you can drop into the track, had a go an eq'ing etc that, is that any use? I'll defo be giving this process a try for my next tune. Thanks brother!

    Thank you for the amazing mastering advice. I have an ep that the mixes are so loud (from an analog mixer using 2 inch tape converted to digital files) I can’t get a proper RMS meter reading unless I pull down the volume fader to -8db. The Lufs hover somewhere around -18. It is a heavier rock sounding album. Is this going to come across loud enough on all the platforms or is there another way to master it so the rms meter is correct, but the LUFS is between -14 to -10?

  • @AlexRapinchuk
    @AlexRapinchuk 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Every time I get to the mastering stage my RMS appears to be too high and LUFS appears too low. In this video, it seems like you have similar readings for both RMS and LUFS. On the song I'm doing now, I'm reading a -0.2 RMS and -13.0 LUFS. I've just been prioritizing my LUFS meter when setting my limiter as it seems to be the more accurate one to my ear. Any advice on how to make a better mix so I don't see this problem in the future?

  • @mickeygentry6033

    I have been following your guide and in my mix my lufs meter I'm at -11.5 integrated but the RMS is reading at .4. is it too loud somewhere or do I ignore the RMS and focus on the lufs?

    • @deliverance9975
      @deliverance9975 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Similar issue here, RMS is always higher and LUFS is always lower than I need it to be and I'm not sure how to get them to meet in the middle. I'm guessing I've compressed too much or not enough somewhere, I can't figure it out.

    Can you please suggest an alternative to Buster SE? The download site states that Mac versions require a graphics card that supports METAL. Since. I have Catalina installed on a 2014 era iMac, I'm uncertain as to what I can do, as Buster SE will not show up in my list of plugins, and I've tried saving and closing the file. I've been through the whole series with my song and finally exported the master - but the exported version is a lot more bright and trebly than the master in GB itself. I've ticked and unticked all the things recommended in this video, exported as highest quality MP3...any ideas?

    • @calliopeclimate2275
      @calliopeclimate2275 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Duh....apple music player has its own eq hidden in 'window' (and not 'settings' or 'controls' as would be logical). Reset that and am good to go. However, still not nearly as loud as a song on spotify - I wasn't able to add gain with the limiter at all without going over -9 RMS. Going to have to go back to the drawing board on that one.
