I still think you left out other psychological causes of depression like being stuck in regret or feeling like a failure. Let's say you've gone bankrupt that can trigger those two feelings which in turn trigger depression. Loneliness is definetly a major trigger but so could hopelessness, regret, failure, loss etc also be

Why does someone feel stuck or like a failure in such a case, which could lead to hopelessness? Could it be the person doesn't know how to start getting out of the issues alone? ; -)

@@pattywolters yes probably, they don't know how to move forward. That's what happened to me, I felt stuck in the past and didn't know how to move forward which is what made me depressed

This is just one probable cause for depression, but it is just overly simplistic to an often complex emotional difficulty. What psychiatric experience has this guy had working for 28 years in mental health services? None.

Driving a car for 30 years does not make one a good driver. Experience means nothing when a person isn't able to be non-judgmental, open-minded and thus seeks to understand.
We can also overly complicate matters, like a small group of men did at the time writing the DSM.

I found the background music depressing. Was it really necessary?
I've been depressed most of my life, certainly since my teens. Being around other people usually makes it worse. Exercise doesn't help. Eating well, getting engrossed in a project, walks in nature don't make any difference. I don't ever remember thinking there was something wrong with me. I thought if you live in this world with your eyes open and you're not depressed, there is something wrong with you. I don't think depression is something that needs to be fixed. It's a normal/healthy response to an insane world. And......maybe a cow might help, but for most of us, only if it came in a pill.

Of course we all believe what the World Health Organisation tell us. Think back to the Covid pandemic and what they were telling us.🤣

Food, IQ, , life experience or self knowledge I feel may not be as pertinent as love, community, and making people feel accepted and useful in society.

Yes but loss, regret, grief and poverty are the real kickers.
