      They are giving up young Earth creationism because as you guessed it the answer is in genesis. As it turns out God invented Evolution when he evolved dirt into a man. The science confirms we're made of dirt. Now they're just trying to figure out what kind of magic he used to do it

    What always pisses me off the most when groups like this talk about children “picking” their sexuality and gender is that there is no way they don’t know how incorrectly they’re presenting it. Children declaring they’re a different gender than they were assigned doesn’t mean that a 5 year old is going to receive gender affirming surgery. They have been told plenty of times that gender affirming care for these kids is new pronouns, maybe a new name, and the opportunity to get new clothes or a haircut.
    When they’re backed into a corner they’ll still find a way to claim this is also child abuse. I guess my parents letting me take naps in sunspots, wear cat ears, and go by “Flowery” for several months was also child abuse.

      Except studies have been and done and most kids grow out of it after puberty. Plus, it's all based in gender stereotypes, we got past this in the 90s when it was okay for boys to play with dolls and like pink, but they're still boys, and girls can play with cars and like blue, but they're still girls. Most people are going to be straight and non-trans because how else did the human species propagate? Trans people are a tiny minority, less than 1% of the population, and are mostly male.

    • @SadisticSenpai61
      @SadisticSenpai61 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      There's a surprising number of Christians that believe males have one less rib than females. I don't remember if I was specifically taught that at the YEC private school my parents sent me to for elementary school, but it was something I believed until I was at least in middle school when I saw a drawing of a male and female skeleton next to each other.
      Then something clicked in my head and I was like "Oh yeah, why would Adam have passed on having one less rib to his sons. That doesn't make any sense." Mind, I remained YEC until I was 25. It didn't have any impact on my religious beliefs at all (and ironically, YEC survived me rejecting Christianity - the indoctrination was that strong).
      My partner was actually taught by his teachers at the YEC private school his parents sent him to and when he told his dad that after getting home? His dad was like, "That's stupid. Men and women have the same number of ribs." And after that school year, he and his brother were transferred to public school. We suspect that might have been the last straw for his dad. But his dad was never really all that religious - that was always his mom's thing.

      I don’t know if I would say I really believed in YEC past the age of 12 or so, but I didn’t reject it either. I just kinda stopped thinking about religion until my mid-20s because I was too scared to confront the fact I knew deep down it was made up

    One wonders how people who may have issues of end-of-life decisions in their family might feel about this behavior from the hosts around the assisted suicide story.
    A dear friend of mine works daily with hospice care patients. She watches them slowly decline and die, regularly, providing what comfort and compassion she is able, in accordance with the wishes of the patient and their family. We have spoken of her work, and how she strives to offer her patients the care and dignity she can. I know someone struggling with the ethical and moral questions around suffering and death, or discussing this with a loved-one, affect a choice in self-terminating procedures, and it is a deeply intimate and meaningful matter, deserving of respect and comportment. The laughing fit here is unprofessional, and lacks the kind of decent human consideration that would indicate the hosts respect those in their audience who might identify with the issue they giggle about.

What makes it even weirder is that the editing team chose to leave this segment in, when it really wasn't much of a story to begin with. Still, it's always nice when someone who is an ignorant bigot is utterly lacking in self-awareness, since this allows others to glimpse their true character.

Yes, I've cut out some stuff, but at least in how I'm hearing it, those ellipses don't change the sentence that they just uttered. AiG thinks that making a child think and make decisions is abusive, because they believe that a child deserves no autonomy and need to be told exactly what to think at every moment of their upbringing. I don't think I'm being ungenerous here, the general behaviour of YECs is them treating their flock - the adults - like creatures that are incapable of being correct unless they're told what to think.

    It's funny whenever I hear theists saying it's a bad thing when science changes due to new data. My reaction is usually to ask them if they are wearing tassels on their clothing (Numbers 15:38 and Deuteronomy 22:12) and if not why are they disobeying God's eternal and unchanging law.

    • @AndrewofVirginia

      @@AndrewofVirginia So since science updating means it's invalid does that mean Christianity updating makes it also invalid?

    • @AndrewofVirginia
      @AndrewofVirginia 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Nymaz I think that science is always in a state of questioning itself and updating. I actually think it's much more of a problem for religion to "update" because this implies that God would have misdirected people in the past, perhaps even outright deceiving them or changing moral acts into immoral acts. Basically, since religion is normative and is based on an allegedly timeless, changeless Being any evolution of its tenets presents a problem that is not relevant to the field of scientific inquiry.
      But again, Christians don't normally claim that the Old Testament is set aside as they introduce a "new and improved" version of the religion known as the New Testament. Rather, the idea is that parts of the OT law were specifically designed for a certain enthnically-unified, theocratic covenant community. These laws would be rendered inapplicable but not exactly reversed or abolished.

Either way, anthropologists would be assuming that the skeleton belonged to one or the other of the sexes. By "estimation" I think it's simply meant that that's all we know (about the actual sex) based on the facts, not that it would have somehow been gender-fluid or inbetween. So using "sex identification" (coming down on one or the other side based on the preponderance of facts, even if not 100% conclusive) doesn't seem like it should be much of an issue.
