- I've been using the Decathlon Trek 100 Down Jacket for the past 8 months and want to update you guys on how I think it performs! The jacket is 100% the best budget down jacket and, I think, the best overall down jacket on the market when you consider all factors (quality, price, features, function, and sustainability/ethics).

I liked this video because
1. You fulfilled the promise of long term review
2. You actually hiked and made your video in front of scenic background
Subbed and gonna buy this jacket. Cheers mate!
I have both the Decathalon down jacket and the Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer 2 down jacket. While the Mountain Hardware jacket is lighter than the Decathalon jacket you cannot beat the Decathalon when it comes to warmth and price.
I have had the Decathalon down to 9 degrees farenheight with just a hoody layer under the jacket and was toasty warm. I would not attempt that cold of a temp with the Mountain Hardware jacket.
If i had known about the Decathalon jacket first i never would have spent the money on the Mountain Hardware jacket
Online it states to size up? Is that accurate ? Example: i wear a Large in everything, do you recommend sizing up to XL?
I have to agree with you! After watching a video you made last year about this jacket, I decided to get one and it was great for backpacking in January and February. temps got to 15 degrees F and all I wore under was a wool base layer! Highly recommend this product as well!
Just got off the phone with decathlon here in Australia in regards to an issue with an unrelated product and I gotta say their customer service is second to none. Impeccable. They have also just started selling this jacket hoodless, I just bought one 🙂
I bought this jacket yesterday in uk for £59.99, I bought the biggest one 3XL at first I looked a the fill in the baffles and thought there was not too much, on my way home, I had to wait for a bus and it must have been around -3C it was that cold where your fingers start to get so cold in a short time, I put this jacket on, and although I got the one thats way too big, it all went underneath my decathlon hardshell jacket really snug, I was amazed at how warm it felt in that temperature, it took just moments for me to warm up when I had the jacket on, I was just stood, not walking at all the hood fitted under the hardshell hood really well, and my head and ears were really nice and warm, I am pretty impressed really, it packs away nicely, down is expensive, bit its got a lovely feel as it plums up, I have the 10C decathlon sleeping bag which uses the same really good fill down and is always impressive how it lofts up from almost nothing. The jacket I think is a great thing to just have in your pack hiking, or even around town just as you said, its so light and packs so small if you compress it.
How does it work in snow? Does it get wet easily??
@@sumosd64 Not used in snow, but this down can get wet very easily!
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can run cord through the hood’s rim (it forms a natural channel) and you can then then cinch the hood to a close fit.
I've had mine for years and it's held up brilliantly.
Is the nylon ripstop or do you just learn to be real careful?
I want one but they look easy to tear on thorns etc - are they?
Did you find the size is accurate or did you go for a size up?
Bought the dark blue version for $65 usd after your original review... It crushed the winter here in Minnesota. Love it!
Just bought mine and your review spot on, could not be more impressed, absolutely as you stated, all the very best.
I'm a medium slim fit. So I followed instructions in order to size up and got a large. However, the large was still too tight. I attempted to do an exchange but because I had removed the 50 tags inside the jacket they refused. If you purchase this jacket I just want to say it is a very nicely made jacket. Just be sure not to remove the tags until you've worn the jacket a while and you've determined whether or not it fits you correctly. The large seem to fit me fine and I was very impressed with the quality and went ahead and removed the 50 lb of tags hanging on the inside of the jacket. Unfortunately when I went out to eat and got into the car to sit down it was very tight around my chest. I had to unzip it. I had to unzip it when I went to go eat. This is very inconvenient. They have such a nice product. I hope that they get the sizing straightened out.
What’s your height and weight if u don’t mind me asking ? Because im about to order one but I’m 6 feet tall but super skinny so it’s always awkward to try and order stuff like this without it being way too big or too short lol
Just received this Jack today. I'm 5'8 150 lbs (slim). I sized up and ordered an L. While it is a touch on the large side I think the M would have been a just a bit too tight. I tested the jacket over some mid layers / hoodies and it fit just right. I plan to use this as a summit and everyday around town. I also have a Patagonia nano puff in L but it is now to too big since I lost a bunch of weight.
@@TamonYanagimoto how does it fit with layers underneath? Looking at getting one
@@MedicalGunsandGear I can wear a base and mid layer with ease
@@TamonYanagimoto thank you!
I paid for mine and it is such a great jacket. The fit is great for me and the warmth and comfort are top notch. If you buy other big name jackets that's exactly and only what you are paying for, the name. Down is down. Also this jacket has a slightly thicker denier shell which will make it more resistant to tears. I love winter hiking but not a fan of the cold at all. Problem solved with a base and mid layer and this jacket. We just hiked around a reservoir yesterday and the entire south east damm wall was exposed to 30 degree steady heavy wind coming across the water and I didn't feel a bit if it and I assumed I would without a shell. Can't say enough about Decathlon for value to price.
I bought mine after watching your original review and have been really impressed. Great jacket. Thanks for the advice.
Did you find the size is accurate or did you go for a size up?
Used it in my nepal trip and La Palma up the roques de la muchachos. performed great! You háve to use a waterproof layer as you stated. no water resistance in it
I bought it almost wear daily in winter. Really liked it and i bought after watching your review a year ago
bought mine today in France for €55, took your advice and sized up to an XL…perfect!
I bought mine at 39.90 €, by far the best down jacket on the market.
Just ordered one from the Canada site
Thanks to you I would not have known a thing about Decathlon
Appreciate this fantastic review!
You covered all my questions

A store opened up right next to San Francisco, California and I've been obsessed with the store! I got their $30 synthetic packable puffy jacket for all my family members. Its slim similar to the Nano Puff! But with a hood for $30(normally $50)
This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for . Myself and wife live just outside London and are spending Christmas in Poland and we both need a good quality reasonable priced jacket and this is it . Also we have a decathlon store just up the road . Another huge issue was the ethical side and this also seems to meet good standards. Many thanks 👍
Got mine off the back of your original review. Love the thing! Cheers, mate. Take care.
Did you find the size is accurate or did you go for a size up?
Currently available in Australia on special for AUD$75 without hood. All colours and all sizes as I write this message. Excellent time to get warm for cheap.
Yep husband and I both bought one. I don’t mind the jacket not having the hood - in fact I think I prefer it as that gives you the option to wear a beanie or not. Hoods don’t always suit the situation.
And mine just came in the mail today. Sized up like suggested and it fits perfectly. Had an REI 650 jacket and I needed something a little warmer for the AT next year. I actually got a gray one that was on sale for $50. Thanks for the reviews! They really helped.
Well Justin, yet again you have not let me down. Just got my Trek 100 and I am so happy with it! Thank you for being the best source for gear info on TH-cam! 🤙🏼
Thank you for talking about size and giving your own dimensions!!! Made me feel a lot more confident to order up a size :)
Ordered mine today, after watching all your recensions Justin. Hope it will fit me well. Im 182 cm and around 80 Kg, orderd size L 👌
i think its really good someone cares more about getting people OUT to actually LIVE n see this beautiful world more then stealing their money... we definitely need more companies like that.. not just to save money but to make people feel better by being able to get out with atleast decent gear, i guess u get what u pay for..but. i work full time and cant even afford a vehicle right now so i havnt been able to go hike and backpacking like i want / need to , in couple years now .. ive always been an outdoor person i hate being couped up inside.. so i mean it when i say its literally killing my Soul not being able to go walk through the woods just because i cant afford it even working the way i do.. we only get so much time here and while i want to see the world and everything in it. I would settle for being able to see some of my country atleast before i die... alwways wanted to hike the AT and PCT but have excepted the fact im just never going to be able to... so those of you who can afford to get out there and explore and actually live i hope you know how lucky and blessed you truly are.
My wife and I just ordered these last night. It was on sale for $60 US from the Decathalon website.
A hoodless version is available, it’s called the forclaz MT100 and it sells for $75.
Got mine for $50cad on Boxing Day! Also got the forlaz merino liner jacket. Unbelievable quality
Another backpacker I watch on youtube just recommended this one. Nice video bro
The price now is $79.99 USD. And that is not a complaint at all, I just wanted to let people know. Honestly I've bought 3-5 synthetic jackets online looking for a nice warm mid layer or outer layer when it's not as cold. I do outdoor labor and just want / need a light jacket and warmth. That's it. I'm so used to Carhartt and Wrangler and it's all heavy duty heavy work gear, which is fine. But it's all usually so bulky and heavy. These jackets are weightless for me compared to those. I don't need packability or anything you hikers and stuff need, but I'm glad this can satisfy some of those needs for you. So just warmth and fairly lightweight and I was sold. I just ordered mine and I look forward to trying it out. I had purchased some Arcteryx jackets which are great, but I just don't need all the specialized features. I know this jacket won't hold out long long term (I'd say 3 max), but for now I think it'll suit me. Thanks Justin.
great review, love the fact you have taken the time to look at how ethical the jacket and the co are. Really cool. Jacket on order !!
When my European relatives ask me about the difference between an American accent and a Canadian accent, I'm gonna send them to your videos. Quintessential.
Send them a video of a rural newfie or Cape Bretoner speaking, that'll confuse them.
Super helpful! Thank you! Epic backdrop too!
Thanks ONCE AGAIN Justin! My husband is happy with his after we watched your videos about this jacket so I have ordered a women’s one for myself.
Well, I'm sold, fantastic review.
Just bought the blue one for 50 bucks on sale in Canada. I'm impressed for that price.
Their website says their out of stock for that colour but it was on the rack so lucky me.
Getting mine in August for Fall hiking/camping based on both of your effusive reviews.
Awesome jacket. Liked mine so much I bought a second one 😂.
Love wearing it over a thermal top and under a shell jacket. Perfect for that.
I noticed that the Trek 100 in Australia is not down and has square quilting. The Trek 500 is down as described here and looks very similar to the one in this review.
Weird that they changed up the naming scheme! The Trek 500 on the Australian website in the one. In other places, the Trek 500 Down Jacket is completely different.
Yup, just discovered that now myself. The jacket in this video is 100% the Trek 500 on the decathlon AU site ... and $139AUD
@@JustinOutdoors Most likely due to our higher temperatures across most of Australia. Hopefully not too many people get caught out. Could be useful for you to identify the correct jacket for major regions and add links. Great reviews btw. I am only new to industry and have found your reviews really helpful.
It seems that the only actual difference is that Trek 500 means with a hood and the Trek 100 is without the hood
Just ordered one in midnight blue. Thanks for the review, can’t wait to use it on my backpacking trip in the smokies come springtime.
Good to know, thanks again. In the winter here in Lapland I spend much time outside with my sleddogs, sometimes it seriously cold aka -40c but more often or not it shuttles between -10 to -20, you should come out and bring some gear and let's do some so stuff could be good for both. I am expecting a quiet winter this year due to Corona so get in touch Justin.
Bro that view!!!!! wow. new subscriber very pleased with your viedos, very honest, not down talking brands since its not the trendy 10 brands. Enjoy those views!!!
Got one of these by your review, love this jacket :) such a good deal
Can you give an update on this jacket, seems it'd changed, at least weight and maybe fill type.
I’m searching for a good question...but you just answered all of them!! Solide review!
A price saving honest review... You have my respect 👍
Great review, convinced me to give it a go.
FYI Decathlon is currently not offering home delivery outside Ontario and Quebec (through the Canadian website). The only other option is for in store pick up which are only in Ottawa Montreal and Quebec City.
What a pity
I've been bugging Decathlon about that for months and they've told me there was a planned June nation-wide shipping launch but that has been pushed back to maybe July. I'm hoping we get it this summer!
Great to here such good things man. Greetings from a decathlon employee from the Netherlands ;)
I ride motorcycle...can i use this under my riding jacket??
I knew you would like it. I’m pleased it’s served you well
definitely getting one in the spring!
I found that the sleeves are really lacking a lot of loft and down fill. The down even seemed like it already migrated to one side of the sleeves leaving one side without down and no loft. I just ordered a return of the first jacket because of this and ordered another jacket to replace it. I'll try the dryer and dryer ball trick if I still have the same problem with the new jacket. Hoping the new jacket has better down distribution because I really want to like the jacket because of the good reviews it has for it's price.
As of October/2023 they have increased the price to $100 US. Still seems like a good deal on the MT100.
Love this review, thanks for discussing affordable options! I can’t wait to pick up a Decathlon jacket this summer! Also, the hike looks beautiful!
Thanks Justin, just ordered mine. It’s a bargain for the price. I ordered mine a lite large so I can layer it.
How you liking the coat? I'm 5'8" and 155lbs with a 40" chest.. The arms look a bit long, you think a large would be too big?
I sent the synthetic back because it arrived with discoloration.
Is funny in Australia Trek 100 is non hooded version, trek 500 is the hooded.
Try the Uniqlo Down and base layers... SO GOOD!
Will do, thanks for the tip!
They are awesome for the price.
Do you have any negative things to say about this jacket?
I wish it was made from recycled nylon, but that's pretty much it. Otherwise, it does what it is meant to do very well.
@@JustinOutdoors Cool. thanks :)
How does warranty work in the US where stores just don't exist or what few are, are really far away.
Got one after your original post, good.....had to buy one for the other half 😁
Did you find the size is accurate or did you go for a size up?
@@Jbonn6141 size up one, but great value
Do you have any recommendations for a good waterproof jacket for spring from decathlon? They are my go to items as they are light and can withstand the spring and autumn downpours.
These jackets are awesome. you can order them through Walmart even..
Correct. I ordered one from there and just received it
Thanks! That was a great review and now I have one. If you ever have the time could you do a review on the forclaz mh900 down jacket? Thanks again
I recently picked up the Trek 900 down jacket and will be doing a review soon!
As always, great review! Thanks for your research and sharing the findings 👍
get mine saturday! looking forward to it. lol you sold me
Thanks for the great info! I bought the jacket and love it! ...however I got a snag in the threading as well. How did you go about getting it returned? I tried contacting them via their support page and email like 2 times each now and still haven't heard anything back. Any help would be hugely appreciated! Thanks again!
I was going to purchase this but I don't believe the have the no questions asked warranty anymore. I'm too afraid of it seeping down or it ripping or the down losing its loft.
Justin I'm 5'11 195 you think xl is probably the best bet???
The XL will probably be a perfect fit. If you want a bit of extra room, the XXL may be needed.
I'm glad you adhere to the FTC disclosure guidelines. There's way too many shill channels out there that don't disclose when they get compensated.
Maintaining a trusting relationship with you guys is super important to me and something I take very seriously. While I think it is actually beneficial for reviewers to have a relationship with a company, I think that does need to be disclosed.
Hey, I'm thinking of getting this jacket but contemplating if I should get it in a L or XL since many reviews of this are recommending to go a size up. I'm 6 feet and 175 lbs..
An L would work for you if you won't be layering much under it. If you want to layer a lot, go with the XL.
Ordered one today!
Hey thanks for the review - can you explain to me what the difference is between Quechua Decathlon vs Decathalon? I see them listed interchangably ?
Quechua is a sub-brand under Decathlon. You can look at Quechua, Forclaz, Wedze, etc as being product categories under the Decathlon name.
Nice - you are the MAN...man :) thank you. I am purchasing based on your recommendation. Have been on the fence with ordering a Decathlon down jacket for a few seasons. Living in Alaska I like to have a nice selection of layers upon layers - for every condit. ion. You never know what to expect. Layer smarter not harder
I am a sucker for a cool color block pattern - think cotopaxi - puffy jackets are my Achilles. BUt after 40 years I finally did the research and realized that I am literally paying for a label . In AK it's high fashion to show up in a shkoop mini skirt, xtra tuffs and a nano puff -
are you using this static or active? i'm assuming static. if it stays warm to -15C or even -7C sitting static would be awesome for the price
Static. Down isn't great for active insulation.
Hey Justin. Any insight on when this will be available to ship to Canada/Alberta? How did you go about getting yours? Thanks.
Hopefully soon! Decathlon opened up nationwide shipping and they told me that they are work to make all of their stock available.
Not sure how I missed your new video? Must be the lock down virus getting me? Anyway glad I started looking on TH-cam! This was a great review! As usual you did an awesome job explaining the details.
Thanks again for keeping us informed and I look forward to your next video!
Rick From Virginia
Its pretty darn good jacket. Wore it all winter and early spring. I may never buy an expensive brand name that is 2-5X the price. competitors are simply not worth it compared to this quality and price.
Did you find the size is accurate or did you go for a size up?
Just got mine I thought be all the Hype it was better. It is no more than a uniqlo made in China down jacket, same thing ,girls left hand zip same weight.was looking for and expected something a little better and heavier.I have the same thing I got off e-bay for $20
Great reviews! You have me sold.. Do you know if the sizing for the coat you have is the same as US sizes? The sleeves look a tad long, but workable for you.. I'm debating between M & L, I'm only 5'8" 155lbs 39" chest but freakishly short sleeve length of only 32.5", by the time it gets around my gut, the sleeves are too long lol.. But for a trail piece, might longer sleeves be desirable?
The sizes I mention are US sizes. The jacket lists European and US sizes on the label, but I go by US sizes since that's what I am more familiar with. I think you have to go with a L with a 39in chest. You won't be able to do up the zipper on the medium I don't think. I have 33in arms (also short!) if that helps see how long the sleeves might be on you.
@@JustinOutdoors Thanks man! Love the channel, keep it up! You also convinced me to try the Trekology pillow. The pillow videos were pretty epic.
Walmart has them on sale for $50 right now 12/22.
While this jacket becoming famous for being "THE" budget alternative, what would be the best synthetic alternative?
Probably the trek 100 synthetic jacket! It's like $30. I have one and it's great. Not an activewear synthetic though.
With some layering will this be able to handle winters in Chicago?
Never been to Chicago in winter
@@JustinOutdoors oh okay. You don’t want to lol
Chicago winters are quite similar to Toronto where I spent my college years, cold winds screaming off a Great Lake. I think you'd be fine.
Looks good but the down has not been treated with Down Defender like Marmot.
Looks like Marmot, Rddie Bauer etx dont have anything to worry about yet
Hey! Here's an interesting blurb from Western Mountaineering and why I don't worry too much about whether down has a hydrophobic treatment or not!
"We have found in our own testing that the performance enhancements of hydrophobic treatments on high quality down are widely overstated. High quality untreated down already has naturally water repellant oils on it left by the geese (makes sense since geese spend a lot of time in water). These oils help repel water and keep down lofted. More importantly is that these oils last indefinitely. Hydrophobic treatments wash out like a DWR and remove the natural oils during the application process. Because of this, and the water resistant capability of our shell fabrics, we feel that hydrophobic down does not provide a considerable impact on performance and could actually inhibit performance over the lifetime of our products."
Sorry is that Ali a ???
I purchased a Large and it was a tiny sized Medium at best, waiting for the XL to show up. The price is awesome for certain colors $60, or $89 for others. Definitely size up from standard U.S sizes. I hope that the XL will fit like the MHW large, they basically cloned the Ghost Whisperer with this jacket. For the price, I can use it as a work jacket/play jacket and not really care if it gets torn, or ruined.
Are you still a fan of decathlon jackets ,? I've been researching this product and would like to try it . I have some concerns with reviews on ordering and customer service . I would appreciate your input . thanks
Big fan of them still!
I have had some of the best customer service experiences EVER with Decathlon!
Jist got one. Love it
Hey Justin, or Justin community. Speaking of down jackets, has anyone tried or gotten the Naturehike 1000 FP Jacket from AliExpress? it between that one and this one. The Naturehike seems to be a bit better in most cases, but I am (obviously) nervous about buying anything from Aliexpress. Thanks for any response. Keep up the good work!
I haven't used it personally but have heard reports that the 1000 CUIN rating is probably incorrect and that it comes pretty loftless. This jacket would be much warmer than the Naturehike jacket based on the specs.
@@JustinOutdoors thank you! keep up the good work!
Hi from Brasil!! I have one of this! I bought after saw your vídeo! Top
Should I use a dark colour or lignt colour jacket?
Whatever colour will bring out your eyes!
Only one problem, can't never find it in L or XL
Hey Justin, how about a Canadian on line source?
