These are good - I have the same jacket in the same colour. I have the same issue with the zip - not jammed but it's a bugger to pull up, and I do also miss toggles on the hood.
Just a note, that's the MT100 jacket, not the 500, Not sure if they changed the name but I think it was called the MT100 back then cos that's around when I bought mine. The MT500 is it's big brother and that goes down (heh) to -10C
I think they did change the name of it. Done it with a few items now. I've stopped using it now since my latest jacket if you go through my vids I have a much better one with all the toggles and benefits and around the same price. Plus it's warmer than the decathlon. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamperooh definitely interested cos I find the MT100 is good for moving, static not so much in cold
th-cam.com/video/Lv7HDdQ-rM8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Xwr17RyRbUpX09nA
@@NoviceWildCamper The Hard Land jacket? Looks very good. Wonder if it's a lot warmer though,
I suspect I need something closer to the -10C MT500, because I also paint and draw and thus am sitting for 1-2 hours so even 'warm' weather gets cold., Thus the static temp of the Decathlon is not low enough unless I wear base layers cos it's more like 5C, which I find it a bit of an overstatement for static.
Tempted to be really cheeky and ask Hard Land to send me one for review (never done that as yet, my channel is new).
EDIT: just seen your video about reviews, yes, everything on my channel is currently self-bought, but I am currently unwaged so that might have to change. If I do reviews that are sent to me, it will be on my terms (that fact mentioned first thing, no preview cut of video - total editorial control, no timescale/deadlines etc - and as you said, if they don't like that, then tough)
I purchased the Trek 100 , it's a beautiful jacket with great quality. This jacket runs a little small. They said in the reviews so I purchased a large. I'm 5'8 170 lb 32-in waist 42-in chest. Even though I purchased a large, it was still too tight wearing just a t-shirt under it. If you like to wear sweaters or even want to perhaps layer, make sure you don't cut the tags out of it before your certain that it fits you correctly. Unfortunately, when I attempted to exchange the jacket they refused because I have removed the tag on the inside of the jacket. I'm not trashing this company. I think this jacket is actually and then same value. I was extremely impressed with the quality and the way the jacket looked. I blame this partly for my overconfidence that I purchased the right size as my wife complimented me on it so that fit me great until I tried sitting down in it or getting in a car and had to unzip it.
Yeah it is certainly tight and missing some features that would help it. I recently did a review of a new one that I am wearing right now and it's excellent. Missing elasticated cuffs but they're now.sending me another where they have rectified that. So much warmer than the decathlon with inside and outer chest pocket and drawstring for the hood. Fits better.too. can layer and sit down without being constricted. Reviewed it here.

After having a few decathlon jackets, I came to the same conclusion that decathlon hoods are fatally flawed.
As for warranty, I also find that they aren't as good as in the past. I had faulty boots, purchased in a store. Fault happened during lockdown and I emailed pictures to them, their only reply was return to exact store of purchase. We were in tier 3, store was in tier 4 and warranty expired before it was lifted. They refused to replace an expired warranty even though I had email proof with them it happened before expiration and lockdown prevented me getting there earlier.
Decathlon and I have now parted ways 😂
That's very poor. Well they are totally out of stock now and the ad for the jacket shows it under a different name so I reckon they've changed it. No doubt when they're back in stock they'll tell me they are no longer like for like so I'll only get a refund then have to pay £10 more for the new one 🙄
I've had a Uniqlo Ultra-light Down Jacket (without the hood, which I prefer because I wear beanies and hooded rain jackets) for like 7+ years now. Packs into a tiny ball. Had no quality issues with seams or zippers. It's super thin, so you can't expect crazy warmth but as part of a multilayer system its fantastic. Also helps I'm in Australia where it doesn't' get too cold. I'm not sure I'd buy it again, purely because ethically and environmentally Uniqlo is quite bad, but it does show that not all cheap gear is bad gear.
Yeah decathlon are great budget gear just not perfect. They've sold out now so can't get a replacement. Thanks for watching all the way from oz. You are my furthest watcher I reckon. 🙏👍
nice review mike …. you could try a running a chapstick down the zipper to lube it …. of course wipe any excess off don’t wanna get it on your clothes …… i have an Eddie Bauer down jacket that i paid about the same for from Costco a few years ago and i lurvs it … might be worth a look 🤷🏼♂️ anyhoo nice review thanks for sharing … atb Dave Mc
Cheers dave. Hadn't thought of that although the teeth seem to be engaging at an angle rather than stiff but I might give it a go. I used to use wax on old jackets like my Barbour as that worked too 👍
Good review, would a bit of bees wax across the zip be helpful? Sadly the Forclaz Trek 500 is now £59.99 😢
The next model up, Forclaz MT 500 has two additional internal pockets and an external chest pocket and costs £84.99, it’s rated to -10 Celsius, size large is 440g according to the website.
Cheers Willie. I've swapped out to a new down jacket now. Budget but better than the decathlon. Been using it all winter and its considerably better than the decathlon. Full winter review coming soon. 👍
Great review I've got the same jacket and I'm with you on the zip I to became trapped same as yourself but managed to free myself 👍👍
Yeah it's a shame they don't use ykk and sort that hood out. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper sort those 2 out it would be perfect for the price 👍👍
Hi,
Thanks for the review, it's very helpful.
As for the zip, it might worth trying WD40 on it.
Cheers,
Tbh I don't wear it anymore. Put on a bit of timber 😬 but I have a new better budget jacket if you check my later videos. Better than the decathlon with way more features that this one is missing.

I think the price hike is a bit cheeky. A good and fair review. So far, mine has been good. The hood is a tad annoying. I would imagine there’s better jackets within the same price scale.
Possibly but maybe not in the uk. Been looking at some ali express ones. 🤔
I'll have to get me one of these. Been wanting a down jacket for ages but I'm not willing to spend loads on it. And the bonus is that if they fit you then I know they'll fit me. I have a huge head so I think it'll be ok for me with a hat and a head torch on. Get your point about the toggle though, why wouldn't they. Can't believe that Decathlon made it so hard for you to swap it over, bad customer service. Nice review Mike.
Cheers gez. It's a great jacket but could be made that much better without any real.cost or weight. They're totally out of stock at the moment though but depends which colour you got for. Cheers for watching 👍
Great review and honest opinion.
I watched Trevor's (SoN) video on down jackets and he preferred the Trespass Digby. I thought I would get one and went to the official Trespass shop nearby but they had none instock and didn't know whether any more were coming in or not. that was before Christmas, so may try again. Amazon has it, but I always like to try things on first.n
Yeah it's definitely slim fit. I'm the same, hate buying clothes online as they rarely fit but sometimes have to. I tried the decathlon on in the shop a long time before I got it so knew it would be OK. Cheers for watching 👍
Thanks for this review, i have the almost similiar Jacket from Decathlon in the synthetic Version. The Weight ist Higher, about 400g, the rest ist equal. Yes, sometimes the Zipper Sticks. The Hood doesn't bother me. The Jacket works pretty well. The Prince dir both Versions in Germany ist amazing. About 35 Euro for the synthetic and 59 Euro for the down Version.
For thus price it's almost impossible to get a jachet in an Euqal quality. Thanks and best regards from germany
Thansk Dirk. Yes I'm trying to find a.similar alternative. Was fofeed one by a company to review but they decided they weren't going to promote it. But I think their website is a bit dubious. Cheers for watching 👍
I got the same jacket and had it for 49.99, I didn't no they were cheaper, I love it lightweight and it keeps me warm, I. Also have another forclaz jacket goes down to - 10 havnt really tried that yet but handy to know about the 2 year warranty cheers Mike 👍👍
No probs nick. I was looking at their -18 one for £99. Tempted but also have another super cold one in mind 👍
Ive got the same jacket, but the orange colour, and my thoughts are the same, there is no way you will get a warm and light weight down jacket for the price. I really like the fit, and also how it packs away into its pocket, love it. 👍👍
Yeah I've loved it from the beginning just so annoying about the zip. Shame as its been great and now they have none in stock 🙄
@@NoviceWildCamper Yeah I had to wait awhile for mine to come in stock, still waiting for some hiking trouser to come in stock 👍👍
Try rubbing the side of the lead of a graphite pencil on the zip. ...... honestly this works!
Yeah someone else suggest chapstick but it's not so much sticking more like getting cross zipped at the beginning. 😔
Have the same jacket, its a winner does the job and cheap as chips where else can you get a jacket like this for the money. Totally agree with the hood im thinking i may thread some sinch cord in there.
Good idea. I'm not that good with material though 😂
My PHDdown jackets don't have hood ties either. I never wear walking just in camp or in tent sleeping bag to keep upper half warm whev sitting up in bag.
Yeah similar with me too but use it out walking dogs and going to beach in cold etc. Got my new winter one now though so will hopefully be exchanging this soon. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper ah good use for it :)
Don't know why but I've never really used down like that I probably should lol tend to put over coat on plus warn fleece
I'm out in gale force winds walking the dogs in the new one now. Absolutely toasty 👍
You’ve been doing this for a while now and clearly know what you’re doing. So how about dropping the “Novice” and replacing it with “Old timer”! Great videos by the way.
Oi! Less of the old 😂 I did a poll a while back asking if I should change my name but the majority said to keep it as its down to earth and also good for continuity and brand. I like to appeal to newcomers as those that did to me to help them out. Thank for the support though 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper lol Old!
😂🖕
So more ups than downs?
It's a great jacket just let down with a few flaws and their returns process. I will probably get a replacement but will need something else in the meantime. 👍
Mine is about the same age - bought about 30 months ago. My RAB jacket is just too warm 90% of the time. The Decathlon one is great value and it packs into the left pocket. The lack of pockets is a PIA and I reckon it’s good down to 05°c - below that temp I start to quickly get cold unless I’m moving.
Yeah they rate the temp based on a walking workout so probably about right. My latest jacket is a real decathlon beater though if you have a look through my last videos 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper yup, Ild not heard of those before - I’ve ordered two, so far. Thank you for the intro. I do enjoy your reviews - real world
Cheers Chris. Much appreciated 👍
@@chrishamilton2527which Rab jacket are you referring to?
@@BearGryllsSpoofs it’s a RAB Valiance. Great jacket but too warm for most occasion’s despite me running cold.
Fair review, thank you
No problem. I habe actually swapped this out now. If you check further on in my videos for a winter down jacket at the same price I have a much better one. The decathlon zip completely failed me in the end so stopped using it 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper thanks for the heads up. That's a shame the zip failed. I was using your video to help me decide on this or the trek 100 down jacket. I was leaning towards that as I was looking for a mid-insulation layer.
Which video would that be?
They have changed the names now just to confuse the matter. This model is the same as the trek 100 now. The 500 is a thicker jacket and more expensive. This is the review of a better but similar proved jacket. th-cam.com/video/Lv7HDdQ-rM8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xKdrDbHW4NbBHNbe
Must admit looked at them and the £99 one plus some of the Fjern ones on Sports Pursuit. But as you say the hood put me off and being a fat short arse the sleeves were too long. I have a Kathmandu down gilet and actually a cheap Regatta down jacket which are both brilliant. Recommend mountain equipment as well but then that's 3x the price.... But visited the Rab factory shop and impulse bought another one at nearly half price which is now my new 'Sunday best'.... 😀
My next will probably be the mountain equipment 👍
Checkout this month's Trail magazine as they have a review of all lightweight insulated jackets including the Decathlon one which they score at 72% specifically praising the value for money but also calling out the non adjustable hood issue!
Interesting. I'll have a look. Cheers 👍
My decathlon down jacket had horrible seam sewing on the underarm. It did not last a year. I bought both a north face and a raeburn designs down jacket, and they are both massively superior in my opinion, though of course both are much more expensive. Decathlon make incredible backpacks and walking boots etc. not sure about the down jackets based on my experience
Yeah it's not been perfect for sure but for £40 it's been good. 👍
