I just purchased one for 50.00 yes 50.00 and I like it so far but as you explained the hood and stock light has made my tank temp rise to 80-83 degrees when my 50 watt heater is only set at 77, so I agree light upgrade is a must. and an auto top off is definitely convenient as well just makes life easier

Ay that's awesome to hear! I was actually really slow with adding livestock to my tank. Not by choice though. The clownfish were put in when my tank was about 6 months old and they have been doing great ever since. I've put 2 clownfish in a month old tank before and it was fine, just have to do weekly water changes to keep nitrates in check. Just avoid putting too much livestock at once so the tank doesn't crash and do weekly water changes for now. A somewhat old tank like mine can go 2 weeks to a month without water changes. Reefing can go wrong if you don't research into the coral requirements, but if you do, you'll do great! I hope you make a vid on it after it's established a little, I'd love to see it!
Don't be scared to put in livestock. They help the cycling happen. I threw my clown in after a week of rock in there and he is still in there 4yrs later.The fish feeding and deficating is what is cycling the tank. You may want to know what your parameters are before you put a coral. Don't over think it you are going to have things happen to your tank unexpected no matter what. The one thing I would have done differently 15yrs ago when I started my firstt tank was learn about CHEMISTRY start dosing as soon as you feer ready consistency is the most important for the happiness tanks

Looks great! I have the same light for my 10g. Using a cheap skimmer body (basically a tube) and an air pump and limewood airstone. Working pretty good for me :) Mine isn't an all-in-one. I'm using the Eheim Classic 150. Super small and is working great for me :D Great video!

hi I work in a reef shop and one of my colleges had one of these. and he had the fluval skimmer and said it did basically nothing to the point we stoped carrying it so what we recommend that our customers do is use sachem seagell. not got personal experience but he says its so much better.
Hey LunarSeal, I have the same tank and am going through the same processes as I just saw here! I'm in the process of buying an Ai HD16(I still have the factory light) and have an ATO finaally. I noticed that you have emerald crabs, at night mine ate my purple acros leaving bald spots that gradually grew larger. After removal of the emerald crabs, the sps recovered slowly back to normal. I know these guys are considered reef safe, but I don't believe it.
I’ve heard of other reefers having issues with emerald crabs also. They are known to eat dying coral which sucks for the coral because it doesn’t give it a chance to recover. My emerald crabs lived their short lives out already and I don’t plan on getting them again. A youtuber named “InappropriateReefer” caught his emerald crab eating his coral too. Definitely should be labeled “caution with reef”
Hi just wanted to give you a heads up the bracket for your light is in the tank water if it’s a metal bracket your potentially dumping metals into the water column as the salts going to be eating away at it. Over time your corals are gonna suffer I have experienced this problem on my reefer 350 sump light.

Or are you content with the nano? I'm really only looking to home a pair of clowns and a few other options if I do go big. Your clowns are super cool looking, I love them! Thank you! I’m planning on upgrading to a 20 long so I can have a bigger mushroom garden. But I’ll still be using the fluval tank for seahorses in the future. If you’re new to saltwater I would recommend maybe starting with the 42 bow front. Nano tanks are a little tricky because you have to keep up with the evaporation, unless you get a ATO (auto top off). Also if you’re doing a water change and there’s something wrong with the water, such as high salinity, a nano tank will be more drastically effected than a 42 gallon tank. The bigger the water volume, the more stable it is. Are you also thinking about coral as well?

Does delidding it mean the room you keep it in is excessively humid? I live in a smallish apartment and don't want to spend my summer all sticky!
It shouldn’t get humid from just one tank. You might get issues keeping it cool during the summer along with how hot the light gets unless you’re ready to spend more money for AC.

I would not recommend it purely because of how much they explore the tank, a 13 gallon would be too small. A 20 gallon can work if that’s the only fish you plan on keeping, they can get really aggressive. Killed a orchid dottyback and ate sexy shrimp, pricy meals.

I use GFO and carbon media. The return pump comes with the tank so don’t worry about it! I didn’t get the recommended Fluval heater for this tank since I had a small heater already. I actually haven’t used a heater in a very long time since I live down south. 😅 Goodluck on your setup!
How do you keep the anenome so small? I just got this tank and finished cyling it and i want to get an anemone to host my clown but ive heard they can grow large. Did you have to wait the full 6 months to add corals/anemones?
It’s only small because it had freshly split. You can’t really stop them from growing big though. I waited 6 months for a green bubble tip and it bleached out. This rose bubble tip, along with the split one, was actually starting to die and I realized it was because the nano marine light wasn’t strong enough. I recently added a new light, AI prime 16hd, they’re heathy and happy now! Also you may have problems getting your clown to host it. I’ve seen some people use a tube to force the clownfish to go to the anemone and it seems to work. Personally I rather them not host it since they’ll start fighting the sexy shrimp over the anemone
Well, seems you have an algae problem in the sand. When I did this 20 years ago I was thinking about star fish to keep that sorted out as I had it too. LFS never had them as I fought the same problem. What I didn't know at the time is conchs do the same thing and that might have been easier to find. That store was so business when I was in it that all of the reps were always busy. It took me 30 minutes to figure out what changes I was going to do with whatever stock. And If I was going to add livestock I would have to wait for an hour or more to tag someone. They would just pass it to me and then the fight through the checkout. I guess that's why I always order equipment online after a while. Then, layoff hit and I was dying and couldn't take the stress so I had to get rid of everything and find someone in the family that would allow me to bunk up for a while until the recession ended. Handy man work was in trade for room and board. Else it would be still going; maybe. Thinking of getting back into it but not as large as before. Besides a 40g tank would be the largest I might gamble in this house as I don't trust the construction for the kind of weight the 155g was. So, it's small tanks if I do go back into it. 10g, same as you, waterbox 20 I think it's called and max would be 40g long.
I thinking getting a fluval, idea is to try marine tank, and if upgrade use this as quarantine tank 🤷♂️ might look at get a lil bigger one 🤔 if got get new pumps and lights anyways
I think it’s a good idea to start with the nano aquarium first if you’re unsure if you’ll be able to manage a bigger one. Just be sure to get an ATO so the salinity is stable, I really thought I could top off my tank everyday but it takes one day of forgetting to send the salinity straight up for a small tank. I put my white lights down to 50% and turned off any red & green. I had a massive decrease in algae after that. If you’re using the light it came with I remember it being really strong in whites so that can contribute to more diatoms. But there can be a lot of different reasons. Like maybe your light schedule is too long. Maybe you’re over feeding. High Silicates. You may want to look into adding GFO in your sump or filter. Or maybe shorten how long the light stays on. Goodluck on fighting the diatoms!
I have the AI prime 16hd light which lets you download other people’s settings. I currently have David Saxby’s settings. I had to shorten the time length and intensity of the light after noticing diatom outbreaks.
You can definitely convert your 15 gallon to saltwater, you can just use a hob (hang-on back filter) to put your media in and you don't have to worry about a protein skimmer for a 15 gal tank. Small tank volumes around 20 and below can benefit very well from weekly water changes without needing a skimmer. I personally just like the extra waste removal from using a skimmer.
Stick with the aquaticlife mini skimmer. I have had both and the aquaticlife is way. The skimate the aquaticlife pulls out is way thicker and stinks it's pulling out so much stick with it. A new one that is.
I'm thinking of getting this tank and summer where I live can get hot occasionally and I don't have AC, how do you keep yours cool? Or are you "lucky" enough to live somewhere cooler/have good AC?
U saying support our local businesses but our fish store the prices there are ridiculous high... betta fish 70£ = 100$ that i can find for 30$.. corals chrapest is 70£ thats like 100$... Clown fish 1 is like 85£ thats like 115$ ...
I’m sorry to hear that, that’s really expensive :( I’m fortunate enough to have multiple local stores nearby. There are a few that are pricey but I’ve found some to be reasonably priced with good quality fish.

@@lunarseal3597 you should have fragged the good parts. Algae will kill it off and your flowerpot died due to brown jelly disease. That can spread. If your going to keep this tank a weekly 25 to 50 percent water change is in order. Things shift very quickly in a nano tank. Daily water testing is a must!
The light isn't the best but it will do on the correct settings. As long it it covers the proper spectrum it's fine. You don't need to test everyday and you don't do 50% water changes. 50% will create too much swing in kh calcium ph salinity etc. 10% will be fine. Tip. Duncan coral is great for telling you there's a problem with water.

Sorry for the late reply! One of my clownfish did end up on the ground, I recommend a lid to keep your fish safe!

Stick with the aquaticlife mini skimmer. I have had both and the aquaticlife is way. The skimate the aquaticlife pulls out is way thicker and stinks it's pulling out so much stick with it. A new one that is.
Been using the stock light for a year no issues :) I keep the light on for 12-13 hours a day and the corals have grown quite a bit
I'm thinking of getting this tank and summer where I live can get hot occasionally and I don't have AC, how do you keep yours cool? Or are you "lucky" enough to live somewhere cooler/have good AC?

Yup! I use RO water for mixing saltwater and for topping off the tank.

U saying support our local businesses but our fish store the prices there are ridiculous high... betta fish 70£ = 100$ that i can find for 30$.. corals chrapest is 70£ thats like 100$...
Clown fish 1 is like 85£ thats like 115$ ...
I’m sorry to hear that, that’s really expensive :( I’m fortunate enough to have multiple local stores nearby. There are a few that are pricey but I’ve found some to be reasonably priced with good quality fish.

Constantly tweaking the lights and flow is the last thing you want to do. Sorry. Your corals died because your alkalinity was unstable

I do plan on saving up for a better light and a bigger set up. The Birdsnest has recovered a lot now :)
@@lunarseal3597 you should have fragged the good parts. Algae will kill it off and your flowerpot died due to brown jelly disease. That can spread. If your going to keep this tank a weekly 25 to 50 percent water change is in order. Things shift very quickly in a nano tank. Daily water testing is a must!
The light isn't the best but it will do on the correct settings. As long it it covers the proper spectrum it's fine. You don't need to test everyday and you don't do 50% water changes. 50% will create too much swing in kh calcium ph salinity etc. 10% will be fine. Tip. Duncan coral is great for telling you there's a problem with water.
