My personal opinion is that dyno's start because of using dry rock.Last tank i did was dry rock, and i had nothing but problems .I'd never use dry rock again .

Hey, came by your channel by accident, while researching setting up my first fluval reef tank (thanks for making those other informative videos!). I'm so sad to hear this stuff. No one in this day and age should feel alone or without support, that's when bad stuff happens. Is there samaritans or some sort of charity like that where you live? Who you can talk to and get stuff off your chest? Bottling stuff up is never good. Hopefully there is some comfort in knowing fish people are awesome, and that there is always always light at the of the tunnel.

what did you put in the filter chamber instead of biological filtration if you are using live rock instead?

I'm gonna make a ventilation system with a small fan in the hood..might solve the issue of water overheating.

Do you have any problems with the clownfish jumping?

My upgrade to this tank was simply the lighting, I got a aquaknight A029 and I freaking love it, WIDE spectrum for such a cheap light, amazing par levels (not enough for SPS, but its a 10g, whod wanna grow SPS in a 10g) and it looks sleek, 10/10 light would buy again

Are you using a reverse osmosis system ?

You got this, hope the tank is still up and going. I have an evo too but I'm using a media basket instead of a skimmer, remember all good things in the reef take time, slow to build, slow to change and slow to heal but it's worth it in the end.

Shoulda just bought the mini skimmer.

Well, seems you have an algae problem in the sand. When I did this 20 years ago I was thinking about star fish to keep that sorted out as I had it too. LFS never had them as I fought the same problem. What I didn't know at the time is conchs do the same thing and that might have been easier to find. That store was so business when I was in it that all of the reps were always busy. It took me 30 minutes to figure out what changes I was going to do with whatever stock. And If I was going to add livestock I would have to wait for an hour or more to tag someone. They would just pass it to me and then the fight through the checkout. I guess that's why I always order equipment online after a while. Then, layoff hit and I was dying and couldn't take the stress so I had to get rid of everything and find someone in the family that would allow me to bunk up for a while until the recession ended. Handy man work was in trade for room and board. Else it would be still going; maybe. Thinking of getting back into it but not as large as before. Besides a 40g tank would be the largest I might gamble in this house as I don't trust the construction for the kind of weight the 155g was. So, it's small tanks if I do go back into it. 10g, same as you, waterbox 20 I think it's called and max would be 40g long.

the cherry shrimp wont do much to the algae, try getting amano shrimp instead and test your water/use a good conditioner during water change. Especially use a substrate layer that's 2x as thick as you have now at minimum and your tank will be much better with much less algae 100%
